So I'm heading up one of the teams for the international 48hrs comp. I was telling one of the board members about it and he offered to throw some money in and I got the idea to make this thread while chatting with that person. If you don't know what the comp is about ill explain to you. On July 27th at 6:45pm i stick my hand in a hat and pick my genre of film. At 7pm on the 27th I have to open an envelope that has my logline. Many years ago I did this and got "Sally goes to an antique shop and finds a watch that reminds her of her grandmother" I just have to use that idea. We ended up making a dark film about Sally having the watch and it reminds her of her grandmother sexually abusing her. Yeah I know its a dumb thing to do for a comp but we were in film school and wanted to make the whole film in one shot while showing the passage of time. We actually pulled it off but lost. I've learn for shit like this you have to be commerical, so I wont be doing any people raping other people.

I got my first sponsor today that is giving me 300 bucks, now I need about 1700 bucks more to feel comfortable without having to pull out the credit cards.

So for any board member that paypals me at least $25 dollars you will get a special thanks and a dvd. If you throw in at least $100 bucks you will get a title credit "bugonyourlips presents so and so film" and the dvd. Cool?? Great thanks in advance for all people willing to help out. To those that can't spare 25 bucks I understand.

well if i win for the city of miami i get to go on to the national comp....winner of miami gets an avid system and some other shit.....if i win national i get about 50grand....if i win international i get 100grand i think.

then they try to sell it on channels like sundance, i get 80% of profits they get 20% but if its that good ill take it to sundance myself or slamdance since i have friends that work on the board that choose films at both festivals

of course it has value. but, particularly on the internet, you should be prepared to give reasons for asking for money. Like I said, if Caco is shooting on film, that's more than a reason. Otherwise, it's really easy to pull these things together in a well-executed manner without asking people for cash. These events are awesome opportunities for people from all kinds of film backgrounds to bring their skills/equipment to the mix without needing money.

yeah steadicam is tricky. I have access to one. I also have a friend who Ops for a living who I can sometimes get access too.

if you dont like the way i type you fucking douche put me on ignore, now im going to amuse you for a second and its going to be fil of tpeos so na na na na boo boo.......first of all i dont have friends that work in the industry hell i worked for a production company at disney for many years...second i live north of miami but not in a van i live in under the van on biscanye blvd....3rd why does it cos 2grand simple, the HD camera Im getting is going to cost me about 800 bucks.....plus i have to feed everyone...plus im getting a chapman...plus i love art direction and putting money into it if time allows...if i have any money left im using that to take my crew and cast out for drinks the following week and paying the rest of the bill from my cash....is this a waste of time i dont think so...the first time we did it we fucked around...ive matured in my film making and will make something worth my wild.

i've used avid briefly, is there any way to script processes yourself like in After Effects or Final Cut? Or are you stuck with canned or official add ons?

Never heard of a Film de Femme? That's because we invented it! This genre is specifically designed by the 48HFP to encourage strong roles for females in 48HFP films. A Film de Femme is a film featuring one or more strong female characters. Romantic comedies or "chick flicks" are included in this genre, but are only a subset.

What's a strong female character? Think Police Chief Marge Gunderson in Fargo, Bette Davis in All About Eve, Reese Witherspoon in Election or Julia Roberts in Erin Brockovich. Smart and complicated. Try to avoid having a woman doing a man's job like a man would do his job. And contrary to public opinion, strong women characters are not required to kill someone!
