I just came back from my fathers day lunch.
We went to this Mexican place. I had an enchilada. It was delicious.

Unless it was in Mejico, it's not a Mexican place.
Feliz dia de padres nonetheless.

It was started by some mexican imigrants. Who were from Mexico... and are mexicans. They also owned a restaurant in Mexico.
I think it counts as Mexican food.

They're Canadian. Don't get it twisted.
Just because Emperor Bush's descendants happen to be from Europe, doesn't make him a European problem, even though he somehow has become one. Or a problem TO Europe, rather.

They arent Canadian. They had just moved here when they started the restaurant.
Bush has nothing to do with this restaurant being Mexican or not.

Nice.
I haven't bought my "Dad" anything yet. He knows how broke I am, and I don't think he even knew it was Father's day. I am going to get him an Ammonite fossil after I get my paycheck.

That is awesome Hannah! Im a nerd when it comes to fossils and stones/gems. My company just finished fabricating a bathroom for this guy that used Labradortie. Its a beautiful stone that has Ammonites throughout it.

That's gorgeous. I love Labradorite.
Do you know about Fordite? It's my latest "gemstone" fascination. It's polished chunks from the layers of paint buildup underneath Ford's painting facilities. They can actually tell when the pattern you pick was made by dating the colors that are streaked through it. They name each piece based on the factory that it originates from.

Holy shit that is really cool. Do you have any of these? They seem like they would be quite malleable considering its just layers of paint.

I don't have any. Yet. Soon, I hope. They have a couple cabachons on eBay that I've been looking at. I shouldn't even let myself look at them.
I couldn't find a Mohs number for it. It's brittle, but not too brittle to be worn. It's supposed to be set in a bezel of some kind to keep it protected.

I grilled ribs, halibut, portabellos and asparagus for my dad. For desert I made a strawberry/rhubarb crisp with fresh rhubarb from the garden. He seemed pleased.

I have found that this is the best thing to do for both mothers day and fathers day. Cook something good and they will be happy.

What recipe did you use for the halibut?. Marinade/cookingstyle?

I put a little bit of lime (we were out of lemons) juice and fresh dill on top. Made sure the charcoal was good and hot and rubbed it down with some olive oil to minimize sticking. My dad had recently caught the halibut so it was nice and fresh and didn't really require much in the way and fancying up. They were on the same grill as the ribs which I'd had on for a couple hours beforehand. For the ribs I made a smoke pouch out of some alderwood sawdust so the fish got a wee hint of the leftover smoke. There were no leftovers.
