Listen to this album full streaming at

http://www.mergerecords.com/gagagajuke/ , bitches!

Stop all these new album craps non-sense by Interpol, SP & co., this album is one of the year's best.

Menomena, The Shins, Patrick Wolf, Klaxons, The White Stripes, Battles, LCD Soundsystem, Justice, Eluvium, Arcade Fire, Arctic Monkeys, The Besnard Lakes, Editors, QOTSA, Voxtrot, Blonde Redhead, The National ... yeah, give some space up there at the top to Spoon ...

God, they were horrible at Sasquatch... sorry to say so. I hate to say it though, Adam Yauch (MCA) was watching their set side stage though...

Okay guys, wait for my verdict until I see them LIVE @ Lolla. Go me!

For the meantime, listen & discuss their latest album. Thanks for that report Paul (but of course, I'll take it with a grain of salt and it sounds like there's 0% probability I'll be seeing you at Spoon's set @ Lolla. Looking at your upcoming shows there's reasons for me to believe that there's big chance that I will like Spoon LIVE.)!

It doesn't feel like it for some reason, but in looking at your list there have been a lot of good albums released so far this year....and the new Spoon album is definitely right up there.

And a band that I just started listening to as a result of this board is The National. Why didn't someone clue me in before? Apparently everyone in my life was sleeping on the job. Regardless, I have fallen in love with their music and Boxer is an absolute classic.

the few times I listened to this album, I thought it was mediocre at best and not even close to Gimme Fiction

It took me a few more spins than "Gimme Fiction" before I liked it near the level of "Gimme Fiction", which is still my favorite Spoon album.

Ill prob be seeing Patti Smith during Spoon at Lolla. I dont know her music, I just know its not Spoon. Maybe I didnt like Spoon cause I was waiting all day at the barricade for Beastie Boys, and then the 3h wind delay didnt speed things up, and I could barely hear the vocals.

I had to hear it a few times before I had an opinion, but I like it quite a bit. I still don't like it as much as my favorite of theirs, either, but it's Spoon, so I automatically like it a lot more than a whole lot of other stuff.

I said the exact same thing. In fact, I posted somewhere on this board that this album was a "treading water" album.

About 3 weeks and untold listens later I admited that I didn't know what I was talking about. To me, it's a "grower" in the best sense of the term.

I'm reading on Amazon that it's essentially song fragments and outtakes? How's the new version of "I Summon You"?

Did anyone else not get the bonus disc? I pre-ordered this from Spoon's store, all it came with is the actual CD and a booklet. It had the Limited Edition bonus disc sticker on the packaging, so I don't think I accidentally ordered the wrong thing somehow, if such a thing were possible.

Someone posted the same thing at Amazon. Look in the pocket behind the cd.

It's weird. I want to say it's somewhere between genius and garbage. The thing I like about it is that it's all sequenced as one track, so it's like the ultimate b-side. Reminds me of one of those Beatles Christmas Fan Club records. I also like the fact that even if you had the leak, you're still getting new music with your official purchase. Anyway, I really, really like bit 3, which goes by the title of "Leave Your Effects Where They're Easily Seen". I sincerely hope this song surfaces somewhere else as it's got the makings of a truly classic track. All of the bones are there. I also like "Dracula's Cigarette" which sounds sort of like an updated version of "This Book Is A Movie", but shorter and more angular, more Joy Division-y. The version of "I Summon You" here is just alright. The beat is groovy but it's just a demo version of the song laid on top of it. Anyway, nothing here is really a throwaway and it's sort of cool to get a glimpse into the behind the scenes creative process here. Spoon is easily the best American post punk band since the Pixies and Nirvana, with the exception of maybe the Stripes. Maybe.

Meaning that I like both, the difference being the muse. Jack mines traditional country and delta blues to get to his sound while Britt is clearly more influenced by Motown, power pop, and blue-eyed soul. It just depends on what kind of mood I'm in, I guess.

Having said that, the Stones version of "Stop Breaking Down" is miles better though. Meant to post that when it first came up.

The B-side to "The Underdog" is going to be a cover of Sam Cooke's "Bring It On Home To Me". I find myself happy about this.

It's awesome, too. I'll up it tonight unless you want to wait.

So... After buying this album and seeing Spoon live in Baltimore... Eh...

They didn't play "The Way We Get By". I wasn't too big on the album either. I like a few tracks, I mean, it's not bad. Definately not the best album of the year, though. It's maybe as good as the new Interpol album. Interpol had a better performance actually. Which was surprising.

Andrew Bird, of Montreal, Animal Collective, Stars and so many others blow this album out of the water when it comes to the best albums of the year. Even Neon Bible takes the lead against this album.
