It's simple really. They wrote that one song, Love Will Fucking Tear You Apart.

Say Whaa? I dont' know if they've lost thier touch or what, but i had to sit through New Order at Coachella for NIN, it was bunk, but yeah both bands have like a rather large cult following and I don't understand it. It must be a U2 or Marcy Playground kind of thing =/

Actually, being a New Order fan, I hated their Coachella performance. I mean, I only needed to hear one Joy Division song, and would rather them not play any new songs at all. The point is, is that was NOT the way to get into New Order.

I saw the trailer and have been receiving updates. Any news on where it'll be playing in the States, if anywhere?

I've been waiting for this for awhile.
And not understanding the kind of influence that Joy Division has had on the music that you listen to is just sad. Srsly.

New Order was probably one of the most boring shows I have ever seen, despite the fact that I adore their music.

I never had the privilege to see Ian perform. He seems to move like a cross between Michael Stipe and David Byrne.
Without Ian, New Order was lifeless on stage.

Get Closer.Listen to it.Alot.Then come back and say that you don't get the appeal of Joy Division.Unknown Pleasures is also recommended.

Breakjaw, if you are responding to me then I'm afraid you might have misunderstood. I LOVE Joy Division and New Order. I grew up on their music. But without Ian, New Order is just flat out boring live. They barely move. I was afraid someone might have glued them to the stage. I saw them in 1990 with PIL and The Sugarcubes. The only band that was remotely inspiring that day was the cubes, and they were awesome. And at Coachella again, NO was fucking boring.
Anywho, I am definitely going to go see this movie though.

No I was directing it towards Brando, who I know has good taste, having just finished listening to the excellent mix he posted.I think he has not heard Joy Division's full albums, that's all.

There is no way anyone listens to Unknown Pleasures repeatedly and enjoys it. I mean, it's one thing to appreciate it. I appreciate it. It's great art. But it's not possible to listen to it and actually enjoy it. Unless you're a fucking maniac. Which many of you may well be.

That couldn't have been one post?
Anyway, I've always been a NO fan first and a JD fan second, but, I mean, by all accounts the band WAS moving in the NO-ish direction, so it remains to be seen as to what could have truly been possible.
Still, to say that Ian's death was the worst thing to happen to NO isn't exact either...

I do like New Order too, though.Never seen them live, but haven't heard too many good things about their live show.I almost saw them open for PiL at a skate rink (Billy Barty Roller Fantasy) in Fullerton in 83.I almost saw them again at a show they did at Irvine Meadows in 85,where someone got stabbed.I also missed out on that show they did with the Sugarcubes.

I saw this really great New Order concert on television. I believe it was airing December 2004, or at least that is when I recorded it. It brought up my hopes for their 2005 performances, which did not go well... The one on the TV was an AMAZING concert though. I wish they played a similar set, but at Coachella it seemed like they were to busy promoting their new album, as well as the Joy Division compilation that was being released.
Although, I did enjoy listening to Love Will Tear Us Apart.

That's what they're known for, and is why I kinda liked their 05 performance. I'm a huge fan of them, and seeing em for the first time at Coachella will always be something special. If you want some good stuff though, track down their live shows from 1983-1985...excellent stuff.

my dream New Order setlist would include the following:
586
Your Silent Face (still bummed this wasn't played at Coachella)
Age of Consent (hasn't been played since 1989!)
The Perfect Kiss (they finally started playing this again last year)
Chosen Time
Confusion
Blue Monday
Temptation
Touched by the Hand of God
True Faith
Bizzare Love Triange (non remix version)
Sister Ray
Love Will Tear Us Apart
Digital
Isolation

It sucks that Control was not nominated for best picture. At least Juno was, Ellen Page is a great actress, but the girl that palyed Ian CUrtis's wife in COntrol is an even better actress.
