Blowjobs don't do much good as a female, but good mornings are always welcome.

But . . . I asked about yoga.

Hi Al. Get thee to a yoga class. It's difficult to do yoga poses correctly for the first time by yourself. But also I would try these. Plz forgive half naked guys and cheesy music.

Thanks Courtney. I do a lot of bike riding and spinning, so my neck and shoulders are always really tight. Of course I'm also a junior high school teacher, so that doesn't help either.

But in all seriousness. If you're back is tight the twisting stretches are awesome. Lay on your back, fold your knees together and to one side. Turn your head the opposite direction of your knees and with your arms extended to either side try to have both shoulders flat on the ground. I hope that makes sense.

I totally farted in class this evening.

my roommate does yoga, and she was so happy the first time she was able to hear someone do this, lol.

she does bikram though. i tried it a few times, but i am in no way, shape or form that hardcore. i had to run out of the building to puke. that is just too much for me.

i do stretches and stuff in my room, but i wish i could take a non 110 degree yoga class.

bikram totally DESTROYS you. I did it for a few months. I want to start it up again, but its a bit expensive right now. When you get used to it a bit, the heat really does help you with the stretches and you must lose a few pounds of water weight each time you do it. It's really rough when you do it, but the day after you feel like a million bucks.

I know Bikram personally, he's a damn interesting character for sure. If you live in LA, tell your roommate to go to a Bikram personally led class. Bunch of celebs are always crawling out of there. I think his main studio is in Beverly Hills. He keeps it by far the hottest of all Bikram studios i've been in, and usually keeps class in there 30 minutes or so longer than other classes. He works ya.

Bikram welcomes the yoga farts as well. That one exercise where you pull your legs into your chest is all about releasing

algunz
06-08-2008, 08:35 PM
I tried Bikram a couple of times and it was just too difficult. It was hard to breath and I just couldn't get a good grip. My hands and feet were sliding all over the place.

Release . . . boy did I ever. It was so loud and obvious and just plain beautiful. Makes me giggle now.

I was amazed to find out how much yoga helped my chronic back problems. Just three exercises before bed and in the morning and almost all my pain and tenseness are gone. Sadly I seem to never feel up to spending five minutes stretching. Probably a silly decision.

algunz
06-08-2008, 08:41 PM
5 minutes is so minimal. You're right it's not easy to start the pattern, but once the habit is established 20 minutes a night is a piece of cake.

RotationSlimWang
06-08-2008, 08:42 PM
I've started it before, I just always end up being really awake until I'm really tired and then I don't want to do anything but sleep. Then when I wake up I'm always behind schedule. But five minutes is fine for three-four exercises, imo.

I tried Bikram a couple of times and it was just too difficult. It was hard to breath and I just couldn't get a good grip. My hands and feet were sliding all over the place.

This was my experience too. Even if you have a really good quality, new, sticky yoga mat. I mean, if it's that hot you're bound to sweat a lot, and when you sweat you slip.

I've seen people using those yogitoes gloves in class, but I sort of feel like that's cheating.

RotationSlimWang
06-08-2008, 11:29 PM
I opened the door for ya, Tom.

Randy, what stretches are you doing?

Um, I forget most of the names. Arms swing up from the sides to stretch up into a point towards the sky, neck rolls, bending down to the floor, one specifically for my traps and the muscles that run down between my shoulder blades and my spine that involves holding my head down to each shoulder and rotating the opposite shoulder out, down into the one where you lay down on your stomach and arch your back up, then back into downward lying dog I think it's called? Then I'm done.

algunz
06-13-2008, 06:12 PM
You should try some twisting ones on the floor. They are great for your back. It totally realigns and stretches everything.

If your shoulders are tight, I've discovered that (if you can) bend forward and put your hands underneath your toes and try to touch the soles of your feet like you are almost standing on them and pull up a bit to stretch your shoulders out. It feels really good.

It's ironic, because it's an unexpected response to back pain.

So you're saying it's ironic that the hard thing about curing back pain is learning to relax despite being in pain? Doesn't sound ironic at all. Sounds perfectly logical. That's like claiming it's ironic that the cure for bleeding is clotting.

algunz
07-17-2008, 08:35 AM
Most people put back pain into the "I need to lose weight/exercise" or "My back is falling apart" categories, and they are often surprised when they are told to "just relax and stretch."

Of course you, being the all-knowing being that you are, are far more aware and thus the statement may not be ironic in your world.

They know they need to stretch. They don't always know that they need to relax and the relaxing part is the most difficult to achieve.

I agree with this. Many studios will offer a beginner program that's pretty cheap too.

With yoga, you're always welcome to modify or sit out a pose if it's not something that you're ready for. But I still find that attending a class that's the appropriate level allows you to get the most out of it.

For anyone in Los Angeles, YogaWorks offers a terrific 2-week Intro To Yoga series for beginners. Their Center For Yoga space on Larchmont is pretty fabulous -- it's a converted masonic temple. I started there when I was first getting into yoga, and then moved on to Liberation Yoga on La Brea. Both are great places.

Going back to hot yoga starting today. We'll see how it goes.

Hot yoga is hardcore. I'm an iyengar devotee because I like having the option of using props to help me gradually work into new poses.

Has anyone used one of those yogitoes sticky mats? I feel like once I start sweating, I'm always inching around when I want to stay put.

biggfoot17
10-12-2009, 03:18 PM
mmmm I love hot yoga. It allows for you to get deeper into your poses because your muscles are so loose.

Bug, see if there's a lululemon athletica store around you. They'll know any good studios around your area to check out and will probably be able to direct you to exactly what you're looking for. Also, they offer a free class every weekend and the styles are usually mixed up from week to week, so you can tell for yourself what style you like best.

I'm doing my first body flow class in a few hours. From what I've read, its not really yoga, but more of a yoga/tai chi/pilates fusion. The Les Mills stuff is usually pretty fun and solid workout, although it kinda feels a little corporatey sometimes.

i'm thinking about starting yoga. because of my health issues, fast paced strenuous workouts don't really work for me. just found out that there is a scholarship program available for people with cf where they will give you $500 to take part in something like this, some of the money can even go for equipment. they will even give an extra $500 if you have someone you want to be there with you to help motivate you and work out with you. very nice!

a friend of my wife gave me a gift of a session of lymphatic drainage that i am going to tonight(shit runs like $150!)...anyone ever done that before? guess the woman i am seeing tonight in san clemente works with a ton of athletes, so i assume she is doing something right and everyone is seeing benefits.

it's time for me to cut down on some of the western medicine and give other styles a try. was doing acupuncture and chiropractic up until last november, when fucking aetna decided to change the copay from $15 to $50 per visit. fucking assholes.

I did Bikram once... will never touch it again with a 10 foot pole. I teach Vinyasa Power yoga in Dallas and Bikram was just too boring. The SAME 26 poses over and over and over and over and over again. What happens when you master those 26 poses? What do you do after? I don't like how the instructors bark orders at you from their little stage either.

Anyways, I'm offering free yoga classes on the Coachella campgrounds if anyone is interested :)
