They won't release it until there's 10,000 people on the site at the same time. It could be a server check, but I'm pretty sure they're just being pompous. Anyways:

This might explain why they've been having some issues recently? Or be in response to it? Anyway, cool?

Basically, it takes all the thousands of mp3 blogs out there and strips the links into a usable format, automatically embeds the songs with their flash mp3 player, so you can preview tracks, and arranges everything nicely. Say you want to hear some Les Savy Fav, if some blog's posted a Les Savy Fav track in the last while, you can hear or download it. Thankfully, there's millions of mp3s posted weekly, so you can pretty much hear any song you'd like at any given moment.

Don't get your hopes up, the new hypemachine is fucking dreadful. Cluttered, difficult to navigate and not too easy on the eyes. Blech.

It said 3100 people when I was just there. Maybe this is like the dancer where everyone sees something different.

pretty sure nobody's been sued for downloading. uploading/sharing is always the basis for lawsuits.

and now the RIAA have a convenient way to find all the people sharing via blogs.
not that I am endorsing such behavior. I'm just convinced it will happen.

Hype Machine is not new.

I realize that, but it looks like they're going to be getting a lot more attention in the near future. the RIAA doesn't pounce on anything that's new. it's only once they gain momentum and become an efficient tool that they run into trouble.

Wow. Blogs as a source for music.
I'd rather buy bootleg prescription medication from Downtown.
