Or that one too. I went to that show for FREE, just for Volta. Other than that, my fave is still seeing them in San Diego in 2005, 3 hour and 15 minute set, woot.
if you are talking about the RIMAC show you are very very wrong
the longest show they did in all of 2005 was 2 hours and 45 mins which was one of the two philly shows
the san diego show was 2 hours and 30 mins tops, and trust me i know
i am listening to that show right now
and the price for the NYE show is now $55
also volta won't be around the states til spring or summer
just like 2005 europe finally gets a headline tour round feb. followed by japan

Just got back from Jimmy Eat World at the Wiltern. Wow! What a show! Although the response from those in the pit was weak to say the least, one of the better crowds for a show I have seen in LA. A lot of people were into it. Great setlist and a really nice venue. It definitely put the casino show last night to shame.

I so want to see them.
It's a screening of their tour film at the Arclight, possibly followed by a q&a and acoustic set with the band. Whether or not they will be there, I don't know. The word changes every hour, it seems. First they are going to be in LA on the second, then not, then they're going to instead play El Capitan on the first, then not, then the movie is screening at the Arclight on the second and fourth but no band, then the band will be at the screening on the second, then no, then yes, then... Either way, it's sold out :(
Have you ever seen them before?

Just let Sigur Ros back at the Bowl without an orchestra. When I saw that show, I thought it was good. The more I think back on it, though, the more I realize that I saw something truly amazing and otherworldly that night. It was one of the greatest concerts I've ever witnessed.

Yes, that would. Yer being sarcastic, I know, but that would be so much fun. He'd have the biggest smile on his face, and I bet he'd actually write them some pieces to play, as he's got a degree in music composition.

Radiohead with the LA Phil would be the definition of EPIC. Supposedly the powers that be attempted it in 2001, but there wasn't enough room for the orchestra, the band, and all their crazy equipment.

But this year, its bigger and beter and it would work. They could totally fit the production and the l.a. phil under the shell. Faust Arp with a full orchestra would KILL. I would wanna be in on the rehearsal sessions, with jonny just putting all his ideas out there.

Just saw interpol two nights ago. It was moved from an arena to a club because ticket sales were poor. It was the third time I have seen Interpol and I have to say it was the most enjoyable out of the three. They could barely get all there lighting equipment on stage because the satge was so small. But they seemed to be having a good time and they played a pretty good setlist also. A lot off Turn on The Bright Lights and Antics, only a few off their new one.

Yeah, shout out louds put on a good show. When they moved the show to the smaller venue the ticket prices stayed the same for a while (~$30). But then for one weekend ticket prices dropped to $10. Also, I dont think it was smithstix that dropped the prices. it was the producer of the show (Postfontaine). They resell their tickets through a distributor called 24tix. So I dont think smithstix had anything to with the drop in price. If ticket sales are ever suffering postfontaine always drops the price for like one weekend. I was hoping they would do that for Morrissey tickets, but I dont think ticket sales were low for that show anyway. Also, I am pretty sure the concert going crowd in SLC in a small fraction (like a very small fraction) of what it is in LA. For example, the Arcade Fire show here did not even sell out. In fact they moved the concert to a smaller venue, and the show still didnt sell out. Whereas in LA Arcade Fire tickets sell out almost instantly, right?
suprefan
10-17-2007, 01:35 PM
Aaah got it confused, cause 24 and smiths are the ones who handle most shows right? Well the AF show here in September didnt sell out.(hollywood bowl holds 17k, they only had 13 and change that night) All that mattered was getting seats up front. and yes the crowds are probably way small there. you still get a lto of good shwos which is nice. Better than being in a city that no bands go through.
kreutz2112
10-17-2007, 01:57 PM
Yes, smiths and 24tix handle most shows. We do get luckier than like wyoming, or new mexico...but I would say Arizona and Colorado get more love than Utah. There are so many bands that just straight up skip salt lake when going in between say phoenix and denver. But sometimes we get lucky and have Wu Tang stop here in between like LA and Chicago and play some little club that only holds 600 people. I guess that is one benefit of seeing shows here. Big bands that are able to play in front of arena sized crowds play at small venues.

I was fine hearing Untitled after 4 years. The flow of the set was really good, puting Cmere and Take You on A Cruise early set the tempo. Only dissapointment is not hearing Pace Is The Trick. Guess I will hope L.A. doesnt get anything insanely special and it would make this trip worth it. Not that it wasnt. And I enjoyed The Liars unlike a few other people. Mistdevil and ThomThom felt like it ws torture, but I took it as having a good time and didnt overanalyze. Their singer is crazy. Jimmy Kimmel should rock I expect, they didnt seem tired or worn out by the tour which is great. Pictures tomorrow, security tried to stop me once but didnt bother after that since everyone and their mother had a camera. Oh and thank you security lady for not checking your ticket scanner before doors and almost costing me the front by delaying the line.

*** CULTURAL AFFAIRS COMMISSION PRESENTS ***
ALL UCLA STUDENTS-- LISTEN UP!
On Saturday, November 3rd, the unparalleled and world renowned band SIGUR ROS will be coming to UCLA!
Iceland’s Sigur Rós are true innovators of 21st-century rock. The group continues to mix the most interesting aspects of U2, Radiohead, and My Bloody Valentine while not sounding like anyone else on this planet.
Their music is truly one of a kind, and they've played sold out shows in venues as big as the Hollywood Bowl. They've been called "The first essential band of the 21st century" and that they are "pre-whatever comes this century".
Their highly acclaimed film, HEIMA, is the first film by Sigur Rós which was filmed over two weeks during the summer of 2006 when the band undertook a free tour of Iceland. 'heima' is Icelandic for "at home" or "homeland".
Critics have said "HEIMA is like going to church and kneeling at the altar of sheer musical brilliance. If your eyes don’t get misty, you are not human." Don't miss this!
The acoustic set and movie screening will be taking place at COLLINS COURT, John Wooden Center.
The event will be from 8-10PM, and DOORS WILL OPEN at 7PM.
****We can only accept the first 1,000 people, so make sure you come early!****
We will start wristbanding at 6:00PM at BRUIN PLAZA. Only UCLA students with a valid Bruin ID will receive a wristband. Please look out for the Cultural Affairs table!
This is a FREE event to all UCLA students! So get your wristband and be ready to have a great time!
**ATTENTION:
NO HIGH HEELS, COWBOY BOOTS, OR ANY SHOE WITH A POINTED/HEAVY HEEL, because they will mark the gym floor. You may only wear NON-MARKING SOLED SHOES or you will be asked to leave.

Before UCLA, I went to Old Dominion University, a primarily commuter school in the GHETTO, and UCLA was a total paradise compared to that. Sure, ODU did have speakers once in a while (Janet Reno, George Bush, the IRL Patch Adams) and crappy concerts (Fuel and some rapper I still haven't heard of but one year they did have Outkast but for whatever reason I didn't make it), but there was literally nothing for the unfortunate on-campus students to do.
UCLA kids whine about how boring Westwood is with their one bar and no clubs, but ODU kids would have killed for all those good, cheap places to eat, movie theaters, EB, a campus where people weren't shot on a weekly basis, an especially high percentage of attractive co-eds, etc. ODU, on the other hand, had a 7-11, McDonalds, Subway, and a terrible Chinese restaurant within walking distance, and a bar that shut down about 8 years ago. And nothing as exciting as a free Sigur Ros screening/performance, and bands like Franz Ferdinand, Broken Social Scene, Bloc Party, The Walkmen, Xiu Xiu, Ima Robot, Architecture In Helsinki, CSS, Ladytron, The Roots, etc playing free shows.

sunset rubdown - the other night - el rey:
i quite like el rey. the crowd seemed to be the same crowd from the troubadour, meaning they were respectful and actually there to see the band.
sunset rubdown is pretty good, but not very good with crowd interaction and so you feel a bit disjointed from their performance while watching them.
i don't know what song it was, but they closed their encore with a song that required quiet and stillness to build atmosphere into a loud, screamy ending..
except for a gaggle of LA types who found it amusing to clap off-beat, hoot and holler at the band from the back as if they were heckeling them or purposefully trying to ruin it for everyone. and they succeeded in ruining the song for me, which would have been the stand out of the set.
as my brother and i walked out, i found myself next to one of the interrupters, and i said "hey dude - that was disrespectful. you and your friends ruined that song for everyone around you. thanks a lot." he said "you're welcome, i had a good time", and then SKIPPED off. skipped. weird.
having a hard time adjusting to that kind of person. i've seen a lot of shows in the Detroit area, Tampa and Atlanta, and i never ran across those types of people until i moved out here. it's a complete disappointment.

So I went to the Ozzy/Rob Zombie show last now. And it seriously kicked ass.
I have to say, Rob Zombie out did Ozzy. The Prince of fucking Darkness was great, but Zombie slayed. He opened up with American Witch, a song of his new album which I wasnt to familiar with, but then right after tore into Living Dead Girl. During the first couple songs, Zombie did look a little tired. But he admited that himself. The crowd was also kinda dead. *insert your own joke here* However, as soon as More Human Than Human started (I think 4th or 5th song) his energy was completelty restored and the place blew up too! Zombie jumped off the stage into the seated crowd on the floor (lame) jumped up on peoples chairs and sung from the floor. It was fucking awesome. Anyways, the rest of the show kicked ass. It included lots of fire, explosions, tits, Go-Go dancers, more fire, and a dancing robot. It was great. I also got a pretty good video of Dragula, which ended the show. I knew Ozzy wasnt gonna be able to top that.
With that being said, Ozzy was fucking great. With the exception of the first two songs. He started off with one of his new songs, I forget which one, and it just didnt sound that great. Then next they played Crazy Train. Which was a complete clusterfuck. It seemed like all the instruments were out of time and Zack Wylde ruined it by masterbating his guitar instead of playing what he was suposed too. However, after that, the show ruled. Mainly, if for no other reason, for one song. Mr. Crowley. That song sounded SO fucking good live. Like. Wow. The keyboards, Ozzys voice, the guitar, they pyro, the higher ratio of lighters to cell phones... everything. Oh, I also have to mention, Mike Bordin fuckin killed on drums. My god. As a huge Faith No More fan, it was cool seeing him play.
Anyways, it was a great show.

True, but HOb holds 900, that shouldve helped for sure in that decision making. Also you know JAMC wouldnt be going on until later, so getting there late wasnt the worst thing in the world. Lucky,
Fear not, I suspect Interpol will be doing at least one more run through North America before they go on hiatus like they usually do. I would assume it would be sometime next spring and it will be a smaller tour in smaller venues, probably The Wiltern or The Greek. I doubt they don't play Untitled again, man that song is so fucking amazing live.
I am thinking of unloading my Interpol tickets or trading my floor for a nice LOGE seat, after the Bill Graham show in SF I don't have another GA show in me.

I was there too!!! and at the one in April. He was absolutely amazing. I don't know what setlist was better. I think I'm leaning towards this one because he played Something, Allergic, DBB!!, Lie Down and the Stone Roses cover. I was blizzown away. During the Nurse, it was totally a "holy shit, is this happening" moment. It was powerful. The whole show was.
I met Ken after and he's so sweet, funny, and still incrediby sexy. He wrote a song w/ Jordan from Blinker the Star called "Amy" (my name) and he said he might release it for me. Hehehe. I'm awesome.

Yeah, but you got Undone at the last show. It killed me that he didn't play it this time around. He had been playing it at like every show, too. But yes, the show was great! I was very happy to hear Lie Down. Where were you standing?

Roc-A-Fella Records' CEO and Def Jam President Jay-Z will leave the office in November to embark on the "American Gangster Live" tour, a five-date outing in support of his upcoming album, American Gangster.
Jay-Z will treat fans to exclusive shows in mid-sized, intimate venues in Los Angeles, Chicago, Baltimore, New York and Philadelphia, where he will perform songs from his American Gangster album, which is the rapper's interpretation of the upcoming American Gangster movie.
The rapper will kick off the tour at the House of Blues in Los Angeles on November 6, the same day the American Gangster album lands in stores. "I really look forward to touring, because of the music…the musicality of it all," Jay-Z told AllHipHop.com in a previous statement.
American Gangster stars Denzel Washington as Frank Lucas, a 1970's Harlem drug lord who imported tons of heroin into the community and created a massive drug distribution network, which raked in hundreds of millions of dollars.
The movie also stars Russell Crowe, Cuba Gooding Jr. and rappers Common, the RZA and incarcerated rapper/actor T.I.
Jay-Z's interpretation of American Gangster hits stores November 6.
Tour dates for the "American Gangster Live" tour are listed below:
11/6 Los Angeles-House of Blues
11/7 Chicago-House of Blues
11/9 Baltimore-Ramshead
11/11 New York-Hammerstein
11/12 Philadelphia-Fillmore
If this is not expensive I will for sure be at the LA date.

You are seeing You Say Party! We Say Die!? Wow... they are actually from the town where I went to High School, Abbottsford BC. They have been playing local shows for years and years there now. Everyone talked about them and said they were gonna make it big. I guess its finaly starting to happen...
Tell me how they are. Their local shows they put on here were always crazy fun and a giant party. Its cool to see a band you actually know, go somewhere.

Lighthouse would be cool, though. Untitled tomorrow, please! I secured my ticket, so I will be there officially. Just need to figure out how to get there, although I am leaning towards driving and paying that $22 parking fee (unbelievable).

But I had no problems when I did it for Muse back in April, I made sure to park next to s street lamp. Let me pull up a map and Ill give you the streets.
Edit:
Try Nutwood, Osage, Flower, or Kelso st off Prairie. Those streets are a straight walk towards the forum and there was free parking. Just check the signs and you are good.

Juliette and the Licks played at my job on Friday. It was an interesting crowd, lots of older folks mingling with younger hipster types. I was working the door and carded about 700 people. Capacity's 400 so easily 100 people were turned away. A friend of mine went in and said she was great. That's all I've really got to go on.
Sunday was the Melvins. We were expecting it to be just as wild as the Juliette Lewis show and had extra security. They went on at 10:45, which some customers thought was too late. I caught 3 songs of theirs 'cause it was fairly dead. Half an hour into their set, I asked the girl at the ticket register what our count was at and she said 192. Some more people trickled in after that but it was still only half as full as we were expecting it to be. Fortunately, the crowd wasn't too nuts. We only kicked one guy out for being too drunk -- he fell on one of the security guys and was walking around at a 135 degree angle outside of the bar afterwards. (We offered to get him a cab but he declined.) He fell on the sidewalk across the street and was flopping about like a fish out of water, which provided for a funny enough show. Oh yeah, back to the Melvins, Dale Crover's drumming was bad ass. That's pretty much all I can report.

Yep. I got my Untitled and Stella after 5 shows (finally)! Really happy with my choice to see Interpol. Band sounded and played better than I have ever seen and got a great setlist. They really have stepped up. Definitely enjoyed the set more than Coachella.
The low points were when I saw some dude literally pushing and throwing punches at women in order to get to the front (real swell guy... security confiscated his ass) and the scent of a couple of people around me almost made me throw up a couple times (seriously). I also got to see some kid with absolutely no game try to hit on this chick. Some of his choice lines included "...I can't ever seem to get a girlfriend" and "I never get girls because I attract lesbians." I laughed.
Great show though!

It sounded great! It kind of seemed out of place in the set, but I thought it translated very well live. It also requires a good crowd that will be attentive. But sonically speaking, it was great. Very cool dynamic on stage. Most of the song is just Paul and Daniel.

The main reason why I figured that The Lighthouse would be one of those tracks that they never pay live is due to the fact that there really is no place for it on any of their sets, I'm glad they tried something new.
I just hate the fact that they refrain from playing the more subtle tracks off of Antics like Next Exit and A Tme To Be So Small. The one that particularly hurts me the most though is their neglect towards Roland.
