I expect them to at least announce the May dates sometime soon with onsale dates being a week after or so. I just hope they don't announce May, August, and September all at once. My wallet cannot take that much heat.

I'm in for MSTRKRFT also. It's my first time at the Roxy and just wondered what exactly the guest list covers. Are you guaranteed admission? Is it free? Do you have to get there by a certain time? If someone could let me know, I'd be grateful.

Thanks for the heads-up. I RSVP'd....but who is Adrian M.? I mean it's his/her birthday. I'll be in Burbank earlier for a taping of the Tonight show, which BTW has free tix available through next Friday Jan 11 (http://tvtix.com/show.php?eventID=47&scheduleID=14070) (there usually is a minimum 6 week waiting period by mail, or you have to wait in hours in line the day of the show). I showed her the RH performance on the Coachella DVD and she said she'll go see them on this tour. If they don't play Arizona, she even agreed to do Red Rocks. So yeah, I'm working on her, even made her a RH mix CD several months ago that she has yet to really listen to. (My mistake was including slow songs like "Fake Plastic Trees" and "How to Disappear Completely," which are beautiful and amazing but she doesn't like anything that she says puts her to sleep.)

Goddamnit supre, I was just going to post about that Section Quartet show. Do you have to scoop every goddamn show all over the planet? That said, I'd like to go, but all my (negative) money is going to Coachella and/or Radiohead. Damn, I'd really like to go.

Also for Phoenix ppl, Editors (Louis XIV & Hot Hot Heat) at Marquee in Tempe, AZ Feb 12th. I believe that is the same date as Rodrigo y Gabriela in Tucson at the Rialto.

edit: Section Quartet tickets are $12. And they're playing OK Computer in its entirety.

Ooh, I hadn't noticed that both shows were on the same day. Jen wanted to hit the Editors show but is leaning against it if they're going to do Coachella. Jose Gonzalez Goes Green for North American Tour

José González sees trouble down the line, and-- like a singin' Swedish Al Gore-- he intends to do something about it. He's partnered up with sustainable energy boosters Reverb for a month-long "Green Tour" of North America that kicks off in Florida on leap day.

Reverb will assist González in calculating and then canceling out the carbon emissions his tour produces, provide his crew with biodegradable catering supplies and reusable water bottles, and occasionally reenact their favorite scenes from "Captain Planet".

All of these efforts will help make Mr. González's tour carbon-neutral. Hey! That's today's A.Word.A.Day!

A portion of ticket costs will go to support Reverb's mission, while those who preorder their tickets from Ticketstoday.com can opt to support NativeEnergy's carbon offset program as well. What's more, any and all show-goers can further bolster González's green efforts by purchasing a special decal.

José's got a few dates this month in that Southern Hemisphere before he goes green on us. And, in a delicious morsel of irony, he'll break up his energy-saving tour with an appearance at the PLUG Awards, where he'll perform and possibly accept trophies for Male Artist of the Year and Americana Album of the Year for In Our Nature. Get it? Plug? Energy? You were right not to laugh.

Well here's the thing, guys--a lot of times when bands play MSG they close off most of the stadium if they're not actually big enough to sell the whole place out, which Justice aren't. Plenty of acts that don't deserve to be there play there.

The Hives are definately 100% for me.
My girlfriend is a huge Circle Jerks fan, so I am pretty sure we are going to that.
I am really digging Holy Fuck so I really want to go to that.
I wanna check out Balkan Beat Box too, but that one is 35 bucks and seated. Not worth it.
I also wanna check out New York Dolls... but I have no idea if they are any good live any more.
Spirit Of The West, a celtic folk band from Newfoundland, are playin on St. Patty's Day, so that should be an awesome show,
Justice. I had a blast at the last show. But I have a feeling tix are going to be more expensive this time. I am unsure of this one.

Rage, well it depends possibly on Justice. The 2 club dates they have on ticketmaster were either $22 or $35. so maybe you luck out and its $22 or something. I went to the Songs of the City show at Disney Concert hall tonight. It was a concert featuring 14 artists playing two songs apiece inspired by urban life. Here is my spiel.

Biirdie was first. They played two songs that were very generic indie pop. One of them was about displaced residents and the other was about living in an apartment.

Next was Franklin Bruno. He's a bald fat guy from the Inland Empire. His first song was very repetitive, boring and uninteresting, and it was called "Tired of the West." That was also half the lyrics. the second song was much better. It was about Love being like a ghetto, and it had a really good rhythm.

After him was Annie Stela. She wasn't very interesting to me either. Female piano led stuff, and that rarely captures me. Not horrible, but boring.

Zach Rogue from Rogue Wave followed her. His two songs were prototypical Rogue Wave, and his voice sounded great. He did Chicagox12 and Lake Michigan. The second song in particular sounded fantastic.

John Doe from X played next. He played Los Angeles acoustic, which was both awesome and interesting. I love X, so it was very cool to hear that song played live. His second song was about skyscrapers, and it was good, but not as good as the first. Also, despite the fact that I really like him, he didn't seem to take to the acoustic style that well. I'd prefer to see him electric.

Money Mark did two songs (Black Butterfly and Color of the Blues) on piano. He reminded me of Jack Johnson. Not necessarily a good thing.

Mark Bianci of Her Space Holiday played Boys and Girls and a song about small town kids doing drugs. Better than average indie pop, still not overly memorable.

Stevie Jackson of Belle and Sebastian was next. His first song, titled Bird's Eye View, was about a tenement building that was going to be torn down. It sounded alright, but he tried to cram too many words into it, which made for awkward phrasing. The second song, however, was absolutely brilliant. Called Electric Box, it was about these kids hiding from the police. He had the whole group Biirdie back him up, so it had a much fuller sound, and it wouldn't be out of place on any B&S album.

Zooey Deschanel played her two songs with M. Ward. He played guitar and did backup vox while she belted it out. The first song, Lonely Town, was a 50s pop sounding deal, and it fit her voice perfectly. The second song was I Put A Spell on You. She absolutely nailed it. Her voice is amazing, really rich and full, and she took that song to town. During the final chorus, M. Ward stopped playing and she sang unaccompanied, which was haunting.

Sondre Lerche played next. He did two older songs. I'm not a huge fan of his older work, but he's certainly charming, and plays very well live. He told a few great stories about living in Bergen, Norway, and was generally entertaining.

Inara George from The Bird and The Bee played accompanied by Van Dyke Parks, which was absolutely awesome. He played piano, first on a song that she had written, called Right as Wrong, which was pretty good, and then on Vine Street, an old Van Dyke Parks/Randy Newman track. That one was a killer. They duetted on it, and the crowd ate it up. Van Dyke Parks is the man.

Daniel Rossen of Grizzly Bear played next. He did two songs from his forthcoming Department of Eagles album, which he told me afterwards should be coming out in a few months. They were Grizzly Bear-esque, but more subdued. I love those guys, so naturally I loved this set.

Bob Mould was the second to last performer. I can't believe I've never seen him live. He was the only performer who seemed 100% in control of the stage and the audience. His voice sounds even better than on the Husker Du albums, his guitar playing was excellent, and he played two songs (thumbtack and Surveyors and Cranes) that I had never heard, but which blew me away. I need to see him at the El Rey when he plays, because the man is powerful. Best performance of the night.

Kyp Malone of TV on the Radio closed it out. He did two songs from his solo repertoire, and they were interesting. I think he works better as a foil to Tunde Adebimpe, but it was cool to hear what he could do on his own. I enjoyed it, much of the crowd didn't.

After the show I talked to Daniel Rossen for a bit. He told me that Grizzly Bear are going to be working on their album for all of this year pretty much, but that they'll be scattering a few shows around, just when they feel like it. Sadly, no Coachella.

Just got back from Why? at Tangier. I forgot how freaking good they are. I've seen them two or three times already but this was my favorite by far. In all honesty I wasn't even that excited to go to the show - I kind of had to drag myself to it. Thank god I bought presale cause I really just didn't want to lose that money. So I forced myself to face our fire-trafficked streets and drive out solo to Los Feliz.

The crowd next to me was crazy drunk. Like loud loud drunk. It was so close to heckling except they were HUGE fans. I told Valarie they were more like overzealous fans Kind of annoying when they wouldn't shut the fuck up when the guys were talking in between songs. And they kept yelling "JOSIAH!!! JOSIAHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!" the whole night long and making Josiah uncomfortable. Finally Yoni was like "Dude get off his nuts already." We laughed.

Ok the coolest thing about this show to me is that they just played their new album all the way through. No Gemini. No Waterfalls. No Darla. No Early Whitney. None of my favorite Why? songs. Every song was brand new to me, and I freaking LOVED it. This is gonna be such a good album. I can't wait to buy it. They're really good songwriters and Yoni is fucking intense. I had never been that close to him during a show so I didn't realize how fervent he was with his lyrics. And I actually developed a little bit of a crush on him during the show. ;) My favorite song was about him being a stalker. Seriously tho, I loved almost every one of their songs on first list. I asked one of them if they were playing Coachella and they said they didn't know, which I'll take as a no.

Also before their set, they played that one song by M.I.A. and it made me think of Yabs dancing in Pot's shoes. Yablo that is twice now that I've thought of you while at a show.

thanks for the review. This is good news because they are playing slc on April 12 and I was unsure about whether I wanted to go, as I have also seen them before. I am def. going now.

Yup (TDEP is a must-see for me), I went to The Dillinger Escape Plan's amazing gig last night (they let us in 4:30 PM ET and TDEP ended their awesome set before 8 PM ET ... I got one of the paper setlists & took some pics and videos! But I don't know why Killswitch Engage ended up not playing or not even there.). Sharon Jones & The Dap-Kings are now very likely.

I'll post some pics later (Gallows & TDEP's shows - I did not bring my camera in during Editors ... HoB is very strict about it ... I'll just steal some pics in internet for that lol)

Probables:
Dillinger Escape Plan - 1/15 - DONE
Enter The Haggis - 1/18
Sharon Jones & The Dap Kings - 1/21 - very likely (many thanks to some of you)
Wu-Tang Clan - 1/24
Ween - 1/31
Band of Horses - 2/9
Justice - 3/6
Man Man - 3/9

Confirmed:
Langerado Music Festival - 3/8

Done:
Editors, Hot Hot Heat, Louis XIV - 01/10
Gallows - 01/11

How was the show? The same lineup is playing here tomorrow night. I'm not that interested in seeing Editors again, but it's been ages since i've seen Hot Hot Heat.

Editors played a very short but sweet and absolutely beautiful tight set. They (especially Tom) get even better live (it's my 4th time seeing them live with Coachella '06 as the 3rd). I got chills hearing The Racing Rats, Smokers Outside The Hospital Doors, Escape The Nest and When Anger Shows first time live (*yeah, take this with a grain of salt since this is coming from a huge Muse fan* <- band you hated).

Editors HoB Orlando 01/10 Set:

Bones
All Sparks
An End Has A Start
Bullets
Escape The Nest
When Anger Shows
Lights
Blood
You Are Fading
The Racing Rats
Munich

--Encore--

Smokers Outside The Hospital Doors
Fingers In The Factories

and oh, Coachella will be Coachella ... looks like no TDEP (I asked them ... "we might get invited later but definitely we are playing @ Bamboozle" <- eek)

Now I need to see Franz Ferdinand live again this year. *after Gallows and TDEP, I hope to finally see Mastodon live next*

And oh, Hot Hot Heat is okay (I'm a little disappointed actually) live, B-/C+ (I expected more from them).

Editors, A+/A
Louis XIV, C+/C
Gallows, A+/A
This Is Hell, C+
Cancer Bats, D
The Dillinger Escape Plan, A+/A
?, D-/F
Khan ?, D+/C-

DEP was not allowed to play with Killswitch on the regular show, thus the one on their own in the small place. I guess the venue had a problem with DEP and said if they didnt get off the bill that the entire Killswitch Engage show woudl be cancelled. Blame Disneyland for that one.

You cant complain one bit, DEP on their own doing a full set. So post that setlist, I wanna see what your face got destroyed with.

They are doing coachella, going to be so sick..

Anyone going to the Cornelius show at Walt Disney Concert Hall tomorrow night? I'm still trying to decide whether or not I should skip work and go.

I will be there. Can't wait to see Plaid! I am unfamiliar with Cornelius for the most part, so I am interested in what he has to say.

any idea on what the set up will be like?

the only seats available now are behind the stage.

I'm hoping they would have it set up so you can see the visuals from any seat in the house, but I am not going to assume this. I called the box office and the lady I spoke with tried to find out info on this matter, but couldn't. She's going to dig deeper and call me back. I figure maybe someone around these parts has a clue?
or extra tickets?

so i went to see health last night. they were good as usual.
then stuck around for ultimate reality. they were shitty.
then dan deacon played. it was surprising to see how the crowd can get so energized to his shitty music...i left after a couple songs.

i mean, where else can you find a hideously dressed person be respected but as long as he's got some "musicianship" in him and as long as you can dance to it when you're drunk, he's so damn awesome. i mean, give a hobo a keyboard, you'd like his shit too.

im a bitch, i know.

I am so glad you had a good time. They played the whole album here too but we had to wait until 1 am for them to even start so you probably had the advantage despite the overzealous Josiah fans. It is easy to crush on Yoni. He has the most intense gaze. And sometimes it's like he's staring right at you...Not sure if he goes for guys or gals though. Maybe both. He's avant-garde!

I wanted to go very badly but couldnt finagle my way into Troub and couldnt get off work early enough for Amoeba. Lame. I'll see her next time. Foundations is my song of the week.

Lickey I take it that's why you called? I was at Tangier during the Why? show when you called so I couldn't hear you if I answered. I'm sorry you had to hear that last night. I'll see you on the 1st. Let's hang out before then.

Thank you. That makes me feel like less of a loser for living here.

Also you should. Also let me know if you have any questions or would like any suggestions.
