the STS9 show last night at HOB was amazing. easily one of the ten best nights of my life. i had no idea how good they were! they're playing again tonight. i totally recommend checking them out. also, they played In Rainbows in its entirety before they came onstage which was a real treat.I couldn't agree with you more!!! I saw them at the Fillmore and they blew me away!!! I'd like to see them at the greek but won't be able to make that one...august is tough for me with having to take 2 trips to woodward skate camp!!!

I bought tickets for the show here, lawn were like $35 I think. Figured I shouldn't keep putting off seeing Stevie, he's starting to get up there in the years and doesn't tour that often.I totally want to go to that shoreline show and have been dragging my feet 'bout getting tickets!!!

has anyone been to the john anson ford theater in LA? Thinking about seeing stars there. The tickets are GA and I'm not sure how that works there...I thought there were benches like at the bowl. Are the seats just first come first serve GA? is there a GA section? there is no venue map on ticketmaster so if anyone has any info let me know. thanks

When I went there, they were all seated, so I couldn't tell you for sure, but it's set up in a similar fashion to the Berkeley greek, except with seats replacing the concrete slabs. It's an ampitheater, but not overly big, and there are rows and rows of seats, but I can't recall if they seemed removable, which they might have been. Anyway, it's a cool little place.

I saw ladytron & css there- it was all seats but also GA. it's a great venue- like a mini version of the greek. it's small enough that there's not a bad seat in the house.

For my birfday celebrations I saw Z-Trip on Saturday night at the Mighty.

The show was good, but it attracted the worst crowd I have seen at the Mighty.

On the plus side I did meet Mike Relm in the smoking area and I was able to talk with him for awhile, good stuff. Also Z-Trip played that hipster song, the one which calls hipsters jocks and nazis, very amusing.

Just got back from Lykke Li and El Perro Del Mar at the El Rey. Holy shit, girl crush on Lykke Li. She was fantastic. I loved her entire set. I knew every single song except one she sang in a duet with El Perro Del Mar, and that one nearly brought me to tears. I seriously can't wait to see her again. Like asap. From far away she looks like Ashley Olsen, and she has fantastic style, and just had the coolest vibe ever. She came out for a couple songs at the end of EPDM and completely stole the show. This girl is just like charisma central. And an amazing voice. My friend Valarie was watching the show with me and said "Oh my god, she sounds exactly like she does on her EP." Like...they do not fuck with that voice whatsoever on record. She can just stand there and haunt you. This was the end of their tour they said but if she comes somewhere near you, go see her. For reals.

Oh crap I missed the acronym. My bad.

I'm glad she sounds so authentic, I wanna see her live (I'd love to see her w/ Jens Lekman so she could ALSO do the backing vocals on some of his songs) really badly. I'm happy that you loved the show, though.

How was elbow in Vancouver? I was thinking of going... but it was my girlfriends birthday that night. I hope you enjoyed the show, and Vancouver in general as well.

The show was great, but rather short due to the soundchecks over-running by ages and the venue (well, church) opening over an hour late. All 3 Elbow shows i took in were superb, with the Avalon one probably being the best (longest set, best sound).

Vancouver was nice, although a lot colder than last time i visited (which was at exactly the same time of year). I had some amazing food there, too. Lolita's served the best mexican food i've ever had.

Too bad you didn't hear until sooner. Apparat was phenomenal! One of the better shows I have been to. The 3 piece band really added a lot to the songs. Most sounded even better than on the albums. The only slight bummer was the hour-long set, and that includes the encore break. Oh well, being done early might not be a bad thing, what with M83 at the Echoplex tonight. The ticket says the show starts at 8, so obviously the plex will find a way to get M83 on stage by midnight.

Yes, it has. And you seriously made a terrible decision.

What a fantastic concert! The best I have seen in quite some time. I cannot believe this was their first show of the tour, as they were spot on all night. The new songs sounded even better live. In some cases, I didn't even think this was possible. My only complaint was that the show was too short. Great setlist, great show! I even got to meet barbara the ninja (for a brief minute as we were walking to the car), chrislasf, and hawkings vs reeve. All very good people.

The setlist:

Waves, Waves, Waves
Run Into Flowers

Highway of Endless Dreams
Don't Save Us from the Flames
Skin of the Night

Hahhahahaha

Yeah I loved what I remembered of the show. Ah, funny story:

While I was waiting for M83, a cute tall guy was standing behind me. He was chatting me up when M83 started. I started feeling dizzy so I leaned back on him and he put his hands on my hips to dance and stuff when I BLACKED OUT!! Like apparently I just dropped to the floor, meep, and my friends dragged me outside because I was too heavy for them, haha. I went back in a little bit later and enjoyed the rest of the show.

They were really beautiful, from what I saw. I didn't like the 2nd opener for some reason, though. It was a little too boring and typical for me.

It was nice meeting you, Rocke! Sorry for assuming you were a gay man. It was Tessa's fault!

While I was waiting for M83, a cute tall guy was standing behind me. He was chatting me up when M83 started. I started feeling dizzy so I leaned back on him and he put his hands on my hips to dance and stuff when I BLACKED OUT!! Like apparently I just dropped to the floor, meep, and my friends dragged me outside because I was too heavy for them, haha.

haha, thats crazy. i bet that dude was stoked when you leaned back into him, thought he was gonna get some grindin action, until you just fell to the floor. his thoughts went from "oh yeaaaaa" to "oh shiit, WTF??"

I'm thinking of going to see the Mates of State at Slims in SF tomorrow night, anyone going to see them on this tour ?

I've liked them for some time and I have only seen them once, when they opened up for DCFC with Spoon at the Greek and they were great. Their new album is really neat, hopefully I can convince my wife.

Edit:

Crap, I couldn't convince her. Apparently our two other shows this week are sufficient.

The Dresden Dolls fucking killed it tonight. And Smoosh made me even more ashamed of my traumatic childhood. Margaret Cho introduced all the acts and talked about G-shots and anal bleaching. Highlights of the night were the covers of "Fight For Your Right" (damn you Beastie Boys for never playing this) and "TWO HEADED BOY"...the cover I wanted to hear more than any other (and they do a lot).

Amanda Palmer will be playing the Troubadour in August. She didn't say what day. Hopefully doesn't conflict with Broken Social Radioheads.

I have never been to the Greek for anything other than GA. REMs last time here was GA and I think they pulled the whole 3 tiered ticketing due to Modest Mouse being on the bill. Essentially to give the older REM fans a chance to see the show up close and sit.

i missed the liberty state park show....

Terminal 5...it all depends. If you're on the floor it's decent, but if you're up on the 2nd or 3rd floor you can't really see anything unless you're 6'5" or you're right up against the railing. The acoustics aren't great. I don't have any real problems with it.

Brooklyn Vegan is full of hipster douchebags. All they do is complain about everything and say "What time does Daft Punk go on?" I mostly avoid comments on there.

Oh yeah...there's also the new Music Hall of Williamsburg. While not as awesome as North Six used to be(where the music hall is now) it's still pretty nice.

I also haven't been to the Independent or the Elbow Room. I think I have been to all of the other minor and major venues in the Bay Area, well I haven't been to the Concord pavillion. From what I hear I am not missing much there.

I wonder if anyone on here caught the Mates of State show at Slim's tonight ?

Cafe du Nord blows if it's a crowded show, and you're not in the first 6 or so rows of people from the stage. It's a really narrow, poorly designed venue.

The Swedish Hall upstairs rules, though, in a bizarre kind of way.

As for more SF venues, the Nob Hill Masonic can be pretty nice, as well.

The concert hall at Berkeley is pretty good, too, though the name escapes me.

Davies is nice.

The concert hall at the Palace of Fine Arts is nice.

Herbst Theatre is nice.

The Concourse is pretty subpar.

Bill Graham Civic is pretty subpar.

Elbo Room is decent.

Rickshaw Stop is wonderful depending on the audience.

Hemlock Tavern is good if you like intimately cramped shows.

That's it, FOTC are at both the Masonic and Davies.

I also like (the) Mighty, the crowd has been consistently good, up until Z-Trip last Saturday. I will be there again tomorrow night for some live electronica.

They came out in all butcher/restaurant costumes (going with the theme of Crudo = raw meat) and Mike made references to working in the kitchen (when talking about the fries: *motions to his crotch, jacking off into the fries*) so yeah, it's all about being raw.

Most of the songs had that rap-rock feel to them, some were calm, but basically a moshpit formed and I shoved some asshole who ran into me off his feet, it was pretty funny.

But yeah, pretty raucus stuff, I'm pretty sure there were no FNM or Mr. Bungle covers (I could be wrong) but basically... the crowd kinda sucked. They were dead for San Quentin (I think that's his name) because, basically, they were 70% white hipsters, and they either just stood still or moshed to everything (those were the bros; one asked me to go see the Melvins and Dead Kennedys so at least they didn't have totally crappy music taste) but, yeah, the encore was the best part of the show:

"Book of the Month" --> "Mojo" --> "Life on Mars"

Dan the Automater was fantastic in all his get-ups and turntabling, this was the set-up;

Mike Patton
Dan the Automater
MC Tah-Jet (I don't know how the dude's name is spelled... it's pronounced "tah-jhey")
Butterscotch on keys and beatboxing (had a kickass beatbox song)
Guitarist dude
Drummer dude
Bassist dude (who did some dancing)

But yeah, Josh, you're going to fucking love it. I honestly suggest to anyone who enjoys amped music to go check out Crudo, they won't disappoint.

Here are some of my guesses to the set-list:

Opener --> "Running With the Devil" cover
something
"Sunshine and Rain" song (???)
something really Linkin Park sounding (sorry, that's the first thing that came to mind)
something
possible Lovage cover?
Butterscotch's solo
"Are You Down?" song (???)
something
"PUNISHMENT" song (???)
------
Encore:
"Book of the Month"
ridiculous guitar and beatboxing
"Mojo" (everyone went NUTS)
"Life on Mars" (everyone went MORE NUTS)

EDIT: also, I met the aforementioned gmoneyak, and he's a cool dude. You were right, man, fuck those hipsters for just standing there... no wonder Mike didn't come over to our side as much... Goddamn them.

Yeah the GAMH sometimes gets lame crowds. I remember seeing Architecture in Helsinki there and was positively repulsed by the quality of the hipsters in attendence. Normally I don't mind them so much, but they were annoying as hell. Though, the GAMH did have a cool crowd for Peeping Tom.

Oh man... Running with the Devil and Life On Mars? Fucking awesome. How long did they play for? At Sasquatch they play for 50 minutes I think, so I hope they don't cut out to many covers. Its awesome the hear they play Mojo too. And its great to hear that Butterscotch is still with them. I still find it hard to get over how much bass her vocals are able to make.
Lee, I don't think I could you could have said anything to make this show sound better. A Faith No More/Mr. Bungle cover would have made me go nuts, but I really wasn't expecting it... so that's no let down. I can't wait for Sasquatch!!!

A lil' late in the game, but..

Last night was a pretty damn nice night.

Crudo was a good time. A lot of their music is what I would describe as party music, mostly hip/hop in structure with some songs rocking out more than others. Yeah, some songs walk the line of even being a lil' cheesy, but as long as the choruses allow Patton to sing more that's always more of a good thing.

They really don't take themselves too seriously, and Patton looks like he's having a lot of fun with this project. The guy always brings it onstage, and I always find his enthusiasm infectious.

It's funny, i didn't even notice Butterscotch onstage 'til at least the 3rd song. She was a little incognito with her hair now long and a hat pulled down low, I didn't even recognize her. She soon ditched the hat and her beatboxing solos were even better than w/Peeping Tom's, awesome..

It was cool hearing a couple Lovage tunes, "Anger Management" was an early one, (maybe the 3rd song), and of course "Book of the Month" later on.

The covers were sick, "Running with the Devil" as an opener was hilarious.

"Are You Down With It" was played, it was off one of the Handsome Boy Modeling School albums.

The dancing bassist interlude during one of the songs was pretty fucking funny as well.

Overall, it was a really fun show. And yeah, I'll never get those neanderthals who get up front row and never move a muscle the entire show, fucking pointless shit.

A quick and crappy pic, (those GAMH guys were hounding me):
http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f178/Gmoneyak2/My%20real%20pics/DSC03955.jpg

ALSO:

The night worked out perfectly, after Crudo I bounced over to 330 Ritch St to catch Foals, (mostly out of curiosity). I got there 5 minutes before they came on.

Damn..I gotta say, I was really surprised at how much I enjoyed their show. They're a fun band to catch live, very uptempo and lively. I really only knew a couple tracks of theirs, "Balloons" and "Cassius". i thought they sounded really spot-on, many of their better songs had some nice extended bits. The guitarists really seemed to play off each other well and the crowd was dancing from the beginning, their drummer was ace. They'll be at Coachella next year.

I had a pretty fucking good time there.

I doesn't hurt that I was feeling nicely tips' at the time and had met a girl there who was basically gnawing on my neck all night. I didn't get to sleep 'til about 6am.

Good Times..

I got some short vids from both shows, I'll upload those when I get a chance.

Is anyone going to Warped Tour? I don't know about it, but $30 for Against Me!, The Vandals, Reel Big Fish, and Murs sounds like a pretty good deal.

Wait, is Murs still doing Warped or did he cancel?

Murs is out. Is there anywhere to buy tickets without a service fee?

Murs, in my opinion, would be the only reason to go to the WT. Well, to me there isn't enough bands I would want to see to go anyhow.

Going to R.E.M., Modest Mouse, & the National this Saturday 5/31 at the Berkeley Greek. Will be my first time at this venue and I've heard great things. Scored some great seats on eBay for super cheap (2 hard tix for $60 with expedited shipping included). If anyone is interested but decided not to pay $50 for lawn or $75 for seats through TM, check eBay, looks like the brokers over-bought for this event.

Off to Barcelona in the morning for Primavera - weather is forecast as heavy showers. Portishead in the rain should be fun.
