I just found out my trip during that first week of October is changing for the following week. So I might be going to MBV, let me know if anyone is selling, and how much, before I buy my tickets.

Wait for the Sigur Ros date to be confirmed and you should have some offers.

Thoroughly enjoyed the National, Modest Mouse and REM show this evening. The NES peeps at the Greek were kind enough to allow my hobbled/handicapped wife (she tore her ACL) and I to upgrade our lawn seats to the bowl area's disabled person's seating. This enabled us to see the show from 20 feet away. Good times.

luckyface
06-01-2008, 10:07 AM
Well, I don't trust them to come back after they douched us on a second leg last time around. Seriously, this is my favorite band and I have been hoping above anything that they didn't tour during late August/September since we set the date. God, I am so pissed right now. I know Hawaii is better, but shit. Couldn't they have hit up the US after ATP?

At least Sigur isn't touring then. Now if Smashing Pumpkins can avoid that date, I won't be as bummed.

Flight of the Conchords were a lot of fun last night, and they played a pretty long set. Aziz Ansari was freaking hilarious as well.

Did they let you bring cameras in? If they didn't, did they search bags thoroughly?

Cameras aren't allowed, and they do search bags pretty thoroughly. However, if you don't have a bag and just put the camera in your pocket, they won't check you. Still, it is a risk.

Flight of the Conchords were fucking great tonight. I actually knew the first song Bic Runga played, called Sway, tho I'm not sure how I know it. Perhaps it's on a commercial or something?

Aziz was pretty funny too. Not as funny as I expected, but I laughed out loud for sure. The absolutely best part of his set... he makes some joke about a shitty rapper, or something, I can't remember, but the punchline of the joke was "What are you, some third cousin of Weird Al or something?" Everyone in the audience started ROARING with laughter. He kinda laughed for a bit and then was like "ok what, is Weird Al here or something?" and everyone screams "YES!!!!" All of a sudden the house lights turn on and there is weird al in one of the boxes just off the stage, smiling and waving to him. It was probably the funniest moment of the whole night. He was like "ok, i know that joke wasn't THAT funny, so something had to have been up." He got so distracted after that. So great.

The guys were awesome as usual. I don't think it was better or worse than their El Rey show - I remember crying laughing the whole time at the El Rey, but this time they did the same songs obviously, but changed them up a lot. I love how much they improvise when the crowd heckles them/yells shit out to them. They can make an entire routine out of something someone yells out and completely stay in character. And my favorite fucking hilarious ongoing joke of theirs was how they commented on the lighting during the show. It started out with them just saying like "can we make it a little darker, more intimate in here?" and eventually turned into Jermaine saying "Yeah, can we make the lights less pompous, please?" And after a few more songs, they are about to play Albi the Racist Dragon, and they're like "ok can you make the lights more cavernous now? We need the cavernous lights." And they sat and waited for the lights to change, but it was taking a while so Bret's like "Just push 'cave.'" Oh my god, I lost it. There was something else too that made me laugh.... oh yeah, during Albi the Racist Dragon, the part where the dragon asks who it is, and the Albanian boy usually just says "It's me, the little albanian boy who you left very badly disfigured" or whatever... tonight he went on and on... "it's me, you charred my skin so badly, and it took every last ounce of strength in my awfully burned hand to pull myself out of the hot burning embers and it hurt so badly and i got so burned...." and he kept going on and on and I was laughing sooooo hard. Like crying. Oh man. OH MAN. While they were introducing Think About It, they started talking about "the issues," one of which was saving the whales, and how hard that would actually be to do. How they're so heavy, and where do you store them after they're saved, and then somehow they started talking about if you gave them whale a cell phone so he could call for help if he needed to be saved, and how awkward that would be for the whale to try to dial 911 with his flippers (and they're acting this out the whole time). And then if by some miracle they are able to get through to 911, and when the 911 operator asks what the problem is, they just talk in whale noises. Bret was the operator and Jermaine was the whale crying and holy SHIT it was funny. They were way strict about video/camera usage (some guard wouldn't even let me call my friend to listen to a song) but I hope they somehow recorded their whale thing. That was probably my favorite sketch of theirs. But yeah, good shit tonight. Tooonnnnns of different FotC tshirts there that people either made, or old ones they wore to show how old school they were.

I was so happy to see Bic Runga on stage just as I took my seat. I've been wanting to see/hear her live. I nearly shat my pants when she played "Sway", it was the only song of hers I know (yeh, from American Pie). Her whole set was pretty sweet -- I may have to go to Largo @ Coronet on June 17th now.

That bit of Weird Al was actually Aziz talking about the sudden outburst of song by Coldstone employees when they were given a $1 tip. That was fucking hilarious and he was thrown off a bit. :lool

The night kept getting better and better as it progressed, for me. Even when we were all leaving I was stokked to walk past Eric Idle (omg Monty Python) as he was heading for the backstage area. :dumbo

SANTOGOLD PERFORMANCE & CD SIGNING
Monday, June 9 at 6pm
Indie 103.1 FM presents Santogold in a special appearance, performing live at the Hollywood & Highland Central Courtyard, followed by a CD signing in the Virgin Megastore Hollywood. Santogold, the album, was met with universal acclaim and praise for its genre-defying sound that re-imagines new wave, pop, punk, dub, dancehall and electro. Fans can purchase the CD at Virgin Megastore to receive a wristband and have it signed by Santogold following the performance.

Word from the Echo is he cancelled when he saw all the tickets being scalped on the internet. Kinda stupid reason to cancel, since most are fans who get punished. weird scientology logic i guess. I sure wish it was going on because the Coldplay - Kimmel show was so uninspiring and blah. True it was free and down the block from me, plus it was the first ever performance of Violet Hill live (which i like), but i sure wish I had a nice cozy Beck show to finish off this monday night. oh well.

The most shows I saw was 14 days in a row. That was in college.

Damn that was a crazy set of days...in that span I saw Ned's Atomic Dustbin at Iguanas in Tijuana and I was living in Northridge at the time!!

Some of the shows were in Hollywood, some San Diego, some at Jabberjaw (not around any more), some in Costa Mesa, and other various places.

I see they added The Kills to the Raconteurs show and Bitter:sweet is playing the El Rey.

Jabberjaw was a club in LA near Crenshaw Blvd near Roscoes down on Pico.

Great club, so sleazy, saw so many shows there including samiam, helmet, boss hog, bikini kill, huggy bear, offspring, jawbreaker, Nation of Ulysses, les thugs, and many other bands. Eric from Hole, Drew Barrymore and others use to hang out there.

I met Peter Buck there and Weird Al. They were just hanging out. Weird Al was playing Candyland in the game room.

Suprefan is right, I think VH1 Rock Honors will be a waste of money. It's a tv show where they pick some influential bands and have other bands cover their songs in honor. Each band usually does 3 cover songs of the bands being honored and that's it. In between they have hosts, jokes, announcers, etc.

I think they said they are only honoring 1 band the Who which means that Pearl Jam, Foo Fighters, and the Flaming Lips will do covers. There's a rumor Ozzy might perform.

I wouldn't pay to see it live. I'd wait for VH1 to show it so I could fast forward.I don't want to pay to be a seat filler.

The bands being honored don't always perform.

never been to the Kitchen. Bowery Ballroom fits about 500 people. The stage is on street level. Bar there. Balcony which is mostly VIP. Bar there too. Main bar is in the basement which you'll pass on your way to the stage area. Pretty good sound, nice atmosphere. A+

Here is how it goes, they did this foer The Police tour last year. If you have a Best Buy Rewards Zone membership in good standing as of a certain date they speficy, you can get a code thats good for pre sale tickets to the show of your choice. So yeah same thing for coldplay, people last year paid hundreds of dollars to even get a code cause they didnt have the rewards zone card. I got pretty good seats and Im sure there will be good ones for these shows too since its the only pre sale available. Go to the best buy page and check the rewards zone area for more info.

KROQ has announced a presale for the Coldplay forum date, so, Best Buy isn't the only game in town, it just starts a day before. I would still assume that Best Buy will have better seats available, as KROQ presale seat selection is usually garbage.

Coldplay for the win, because word is Scott is turning into himself again, you know? being a trainwreck?.

Things not off to a good start for Stone Temple Pilots on their comeback 2008 US Tour. This from one poster (and backed by several others) at the band's own message board: community.stonetemplepilots.com.
"Tonight's STP show at PNC Bank Arts Center was hands down the worst concert I've ever been too. I lost almost all my respect for this band. First, they came on stage an hour late. I thought there was going to be a riot if they didn't play. They finally came out and Wieland must have been on drugs. He forgot lyrics. He mumbled lyrics. He tripped on stage. He didn't sing in synch with the music at times. He nearly punched himself in the face with the mic. His speech in between songs was meaningless. It was incredible. If someone in the crowd acted like Weiland was, they would have been arrested for public intoxication. People were leaving early, people were booing, it was quite a site to see. It'll be interesting to see what happens to this band as the tour goes on...as for me, I think I'll skip STP from now on."

It seems like there should be some way to give a refund. For 50 plus dollars that is completely unacceptable. Even though these bands totally blow, if I remember correctly didn't they offer refunds for tickets when the Creed and Puddle of Mud singers were wasted?

Will the Hollywood Bowl allow this? After an amazing Cure show?

If so, we riot. Bring your bats.

I bought this really cool Coldplay shirt for $40 back in 2005 at the concert. I only spent that much because it was a really cool design with 3/4 sleeves, and it was in a color I like. I still wear that shirt and it's very soft and nice. I'm a bit worried about the forthcoming Radiohead shirts--aren't they 40 or 45 bucks? And kind of goofy shirts too?

I think they said they are only honoring 1 band the Who which means that Pearl Jam, Foo Fighters, and the Flaming Lips will do covers. There's a rumor Ozzy might perform.

I wouldn't pay to see it live. I'd wait for VH1 to show it so I could fast forward.I don't want to pay to be a seat filler.

The bands being honored don't always perform.

the who is actually performing, this is from vh1.com:

"Expect the performances at this year’s Rock Honors to be on the physical side. When you’re saluting a band like the Who, you’ve gotta bring plenty of whomp to the table. So it makes sense that Pearl Jam, the Foo Fighters, and the Flaming Lips are three of the acts slated to put a spin on the veteran Brit band’s songbook. Each of them have honed their gargantuan sound, stressing passion at every turn. Eddie Vedder and his brood have actually made quite a dent with their mighty cover of “Love, Reign O’er Me,” from the Who’s Quadrophenia disc. Of course the Who will be playing a sizable chunk of their own music at the show, too. This is the first Rock Honors show to celebrate one band."

hmm, im skeptical since this is a tv taping, but man im tempted to go to this. i got a presale email from the ten club. i would haev to buy the cheapest seats though, which might suck. anybody been to this place? how is it? is it pretty big or what?

That's good the who is performing. These TV show tapings always let me down. One of 5 things always seems to happen.

1. One of the best artists doesn't show.
2. One of the artists decides to lip sync.
3. The director is extra anal and has to keep retaking every song and lame celebrity introduction 5000 times.
4. The stage manager keeps screaming at us because he says we aren't fake excited enough.
5. You get stuck in limited view seats because some of the crew, camera, or some other stage production equipment is in your way.

Pauley Pavilion is pretty big, It's a basketball stadium.
