Man, I'm so hard up for shows to see that I paid $26 to see a bluegrass show last night. Laurie Lewis & Tom Rozum. Good show, but I was so tired I almost fell asleep about four times.
Haha. This is the other reason that I did not go last night. I was afraid of falling asleep because I have no self-restraint and have unabashedly been going to bed at 9pm every night since returning from my New York trip.
Falling asleep at a show is generally not advisable. Unless it's the Shins or something.

That's pricey. They put on a great show though. I would never pay $20 though, but they are from here so play cheap shows regularly.
I am not sure why shows are so expensive here. I would imagine that it's some combination of passed on travel expenses, and just that people are so desperate for anything that they don't mind paying $15-$25 even for smaller local bands.

Good question. I'm interested because there's one band that I have to see that will be performing this year (3 guesses). The bad thing is set times last year were hella short, but it was a lot of bang for $13 bucks a day. I was out of town last year so I just have pics and google searches and the like.
But yeah, this was last year's lineup:

He plays for 2 and a half hours usually. This year's set had more Al TV clips than last years. Notable songs:
Polka Medley
8 song melody featuring: You're Pitiful, Canadian Idiot, Do I Creep You Out?, Pretty Fly for a Rabbi, etc.
All About the Pentiums (really good live)
Amish Paradise
White and Nerdy
The Saga Begins
Couch Potato
Yoda
I'm In Love With the Skipper (concert only)
We All Have Cellphones (concert only)
Eat It
Fat

It was funny that MSNBC interviewed a rep from the state dept and asked what does the US gov't have against Boy George. The guy couldn't stop laughing in order to answer.

I've seen them be a complete shit show wreck and I've seen them be an absolutely stellar, violent and vicious punk band. They're notorious for insane live shows. Sometimes that translates to really shitty, but it's worth seeing.
And, don't listen to Randy. He doesn't find merit in punk music, so of course he wouldn't like Black Lips.

Oh just to add to the insanity of October, McCabes guitar shop is having their 50th anniversary show at UCLA Royce Hall on October 2nd..
McCabe’s 50th Anniversary: A Living History of Music
With Jackson Browne, Richard Thompson, Odetta, David Lindley, Jennifer Warnes, The Savoy-Doucet Cajun Band, Bonnie "Prince" Billy, Ricky Jay, and more...plus special guests!
Santa Monica's McCabe's Guitar Shop has served three generations of musicians and music lovers through its retail store, music school and world famous concerts, becoming a civic treasure and international icon of the acoustic music community. The legendary weekend concert series that has taken place on the shop’s intimate backroom stage over the last five decades has presented a breathtaking variety of roots music, songwriters, jazz singers, punk bands, bluegrass groups, Cajun orchestras, Gospel choirs, outsider poets, and, of course, amazing guitarists of every flavor and stripe. McCabe’s roster reads like a “who’s who” of music in the last half century, from Bill Monroe and Sun Ra to Jeff Buckley and Cat Power. Nancy Covey and Lincoln Meyerson—McCabe’s concert directors past and present—curated this extraordinary concert celebrating 50 years of musical history in the making, featuring many of the artists who have contributed to the continuing saga of this unique cultural institution.

I sat in Center A, Row A, and I would say those were the best seats that you could ask for at a show. Pit would be great, of course, but it is nice to have no obstructions, no crowding, and an option to sit if need be.

So what are you debating this for? I have had second row center in section A and it was great, also if its a couple rows back its better than the very first row becauce the seats start to go up so you can see over the pit crowd

I know! Finally my FIRST time seeing Gogol Bordello at their own show. I am so incredibly excited. Sigur Ros, Gogol Bordello and Flogging Molly all in one week is almost to much awesome for me to comprehend right now. I might go to Gogol's show in Seattle as well... but I am not sure about that one. And yeah, most people are blown away after they see Gogol. Especially the first time.

Prepare to get sweaty. After leaving Gogol's show at the Fonda, I took off my shirt and twisted it and sweat poured out. Luckily, I had a cooler in the trunk. Water had never tasted so good in my life.

Epic wil mean they better have a string section or Ill ask for a refund. Second stage and In Keep Secrets are the nights I will attend for sure. I might do IV, but thats because that one totally sounds like epic..

I've never been to the Nokia Theatre. Is it a venue where there isn't really a bad seat in the house or do the cheap seats suck? If you can still see the band fine then I'm completely willing to pay $67.50 for the Who. That's no more than MBV.

No bad seat in the house, they do have screens, but sound can be an issue if youa re not down in Orchestra.

stay away from the extreme sides of the orchestra. halfway into the far left/right sections is the furthest from the center you should go. loge and mezzanine are all good.
