BRMC fucking kicked ass tonight. I forgot how much I liked their music. they played at least 2.5 hours, if not more. it was like a 26 song set or something. it was fucking ridiculously good. I was taken aback. I heard that the acoustic set last night was awesome too, I wish I had gone now. fuck yeah. they said they'll be back really soon. as unlikely as I thought it would be, I'd be stoked for another tour.

raconteurs on 9/22 at the greek, got lucky and pulled pit. i may be dumping it, though. not sure how a night of rock will go with a 2 week old at home. have the woman's blessing and family to help out, but i think rest may be more important than seeing them again.

just picked up tix to see metallica at cox in sd on dec. 15th. got pretty decent seats since it is in the round, section e row 13(which is actually the 8th row).

rage patton

AC/DC are sooooooo gonna add a second Vancouver show. Last time they came, they only had one show anounced, but it sold out in like 10 minutes. So they added a second one a couple minutes after tickets sold out. I think that one only took a couple of hours to sell out.

Indeed. Funds are low so I have to make a choice. NIN for sure but then it comes down to Metallica or AC/DC and I've never seen the latter.

That said, a job would change this in a hurry.

Either way, Bad Religion on back to back nights this weekend! I'm already euphoric about it! The rest of 2008 is going to rock hard.

Should I go back to the old version of the board and pull my quote from it? I can tell you right now I said this ''If Radiohead comes back to play Coachella again, do not expect them until 2009 when its the 10th anniversary, so quit asking for them''.

Sushov23

yes please, I think it's funny because every year people call radiohead headlining. So you along with many people are always saying radiohead. So when it comes down to it, it does not matter who called it, as long as it happens. So stop selling it as your idea, because you would be wrong sir.

It was only announced a week before the show. That's probably why it isn't sold out. The tickets are 30 after surcharges and I'm not a fan of the openers.

I just haven't cared for their last few albums and I've seen them play pretty much everything I could want to. I've actually hung out with them a couple times, they are incredibly smart and nice guys.

The Gray Race and everything before- Fucking mint.
The New America - WTF happened there?
Process of Belief - Hit and miss for me, mostly good
The Empire Strikes First- Good album, Opening a show with Ovurture/Sinister Rouge is most excellent.
New Maps of Hell- Hit and miss again. Similar to the Process of Belief in that there are some classic-level songs surrounded by a few really bad ones.

I really want to hear Marked, off Stranger than Fiction, at some point this weekend. Don't think they're playing it on this tour though.

hahha I loved Tricky last night. Had such a good time at that show.

I was up on the rail the whole show, second time that's happened. Right in front of the female singer.
Tricky was possessed by a demon the entire show. Never seen a show quite like that before. He comes on stage, starts smoking this huge joint with his back to the audience for like 15 minutes and then turns around and flips the fuck out.

He was going bonkers all night. Constantly fucking with the speakers, keyboard, drum set. I loved that roadie that had to come running up on stage every 10 minutes. I wish I had a picture of him when he was squatting down, holding that huge speaker up as Tricky was violently trying to pull it down.

The female singer was bomb, totally into her. What a voice. And that crazy 20 minute closing encore jam was insane.

A lot of Tricky's music doesn't actually feature him primarily, so I was cool with how much her actually performed. He was always into it, even if just growling into the mic. He seriously looked like he was getting an exorcism on him the whole night. Tricky's the man and i loved the show.
Hope to see him at Coachella maybe next year. Way underrated here in the states. Anyone know if the Fonda sold out? I couldn't see. It didn't feel too packed up front, but it looked like a nice crowd going all the way to the back

what did everyone think of the opening band Sonny? I have to say I was impressed too. I didn't like the emo-ish sounding singer, but thought the weird, tribal techno speed metal mash up sounded fucking great. Reminded me of a love child between Mars Volta, Faith no More and maybe some Underworld thrown in. Plus the singer looked just like the Lepercaun which was awesome.

It was sweet seeing them in El Corazon. There were a few things left off the set list but I still had a great time. Jay kept playing on, around and used the pole in the middle of the stage to play a few notes at one point, and he looked stoned out of his mind. Kept laughing hysterically at Gaffin's corny jokes, making them funny as a spectacle.

The Mae Shi killed tonight. They played a new song, and Brad Breeck was singing with them, and he went nuts (him and Tim Byron don't tour with them anymore, but they usually play the LA shows, so I can't imagine what their tours are like, since they're down two members.) Anavan were awesome again. My friend said they reminded him of the B-52s. Like a No Wave version, I suppose. Foot Village are fun, and they got the crowd working. I love HEALTH, but this wasn't the best show I've seen from them. They seemed disjointed and like things weren't clicking as much. Individual songs sounded great, but the show didn't come off as impressive as some of the other times I've seen them. Still, those new songs they have are dynamite.

Oh man, here comes the monkey wrench in an already packed October...

Oct 2-3
Unclassified: Lou Reed and Ulrich Krieger
At the Red Cat in Los Angeles...

October 2-3, 2008

Unclassified: Lou Reed and Ulrich Krieger
World Premiere

"[Lou Reed] has gotten so far beyond us that he has come around to meet us from the other side." Spin

Rock music icon Lou Reed and sonic experimentalist Ulrich Krieger take the stage together for the first time to improvise music and make soundscapes. The pair use guitars, saxophones and an array of electronic treatments to venture into deep acoustic space, drawing on new music, free jazz, avant-rock, noise and ambient in a set of intense conceptual pieces and intuitive improvisations. The artists first met in 2002 for the premiere of Krieger's transcription and arrangement of Metal Machine Music — Reed's seminal guitar feedback epic — for the chamber orchestra Zeitkratzer. More recently, Reed has been touring a new stage version of his 1973 rock oratorio Berlin, a work that was the subject of the stunning concert film by Julian Schnabel released this summer. Krieger, who has collaborated with artists from Reed and Lee Ranaldo to Phill Niblock and Merzbow, has been a member of CalArts' music faculty since last fall.

Funded in part with generous support from Abby Sher.

Sunburned Hand of the Man at the Smell Oct. 23rd

Wow, that's great...I just have a question, what is the smell like? I've never been there, how does compare to the old smell in North Hollywood which I have been to?

bmack86
09-14-2008, 12:04 PM
I never went in North Hollywood, but the Smell in downtown is pretty cool. It's all ages, so the crowd tends to skew younger, and the kids are usually there to dance and mosh, so it gets pretty active. It's not in the best part of downtown, but there's usually plenty of people there and it could be worse. It's pretty narrow, and the stage isn't that big, so it gets intimate, or hot, depending on how you want to look at it. Also, the sound is usually really loud and pretty decent. They also do weird things during shows like sell vegan pizza and give 5 dollar hair cuts.

Thursday, Oct 9th, 8pm

A Love Pump United Showcase...
Genghis Tron, Yip Yip, Clipd Beaks, with special guests

KXLU 88.9FM & FMLY Blog Welcome...

Genghis Tron want to eat your brains. Well, maybe they don’t, but they do want to poke at them a little. Their new album, Board Up the House, evokes vivid emotional responses from panic to relief, hope to despair, and just about everything in between. The best way to manipulate moods in such a way is to manipulate sounds, which is what Genghis Tron does best.

Forming four short years ago in Poughkeepsie, New York, Genghis Tron set out to create something left-of-center, and like their musical tastes, that couldn’t be easily pinned down. With Mooki Singerman’s varied vocals, Michael Sochynsky’s keyboard wizardry turning blips and beeps into pulsating rhythms, beats, and ambient backdrops, and Hamilton Jordan’s fret-board shredding and stream of memorable riffs, Genghis Tron created something that can only be described as new and totally unique.

I didn't know Planet Hollywood still existed. Of all the overpriced tacky chain restaurants, their food was (is?) among the worst of the worst.

Planet Hollywood Hotel & Casino is actually the new Aladdin converted...

I went to that theater to see NIN when it was still the Aladdin and Saul Williams opened the show. It's actually a pretty good venue to see them.

wow. stellar collection there.

on a totally different note, I really enjoyed Tricky tonight. I can see what others were saying about Tricky himself -- he was a little bit stoned, he liked to show us his back, his vocals were sometimes a bit weak. but it wasn't the disaster that people made it out to be yesterday. and yeah, his band is fucking tight! if Tricky himself put it some more effort it could be a fantastic show. as it is, it's good.

I'd see him again. bring him on in 09, coachella!

having re-read the accounts from yesterday, I suspect that the SF tricky show was better than the LA one. he wasn't going nuts playing with things and trying to pull speakers down tonight. I'm grateful for that.

They opened a Planet Hollywood hotel in Vegas and apparently it has a good sized amphitheatre (small for NIN standards) it is not a private event and tickets will be available shortly through NIN.com

to correct this, its actually the Alladin, but now is Planet Hollywood(corporate buyouts and all).

my roommate grabbed one of those guinness cans too!

you have Whisky on A Sunday album right? The documentary is great, and has a lot of footage from the Wiltern show. I even found myself in the pit shots. THe live portion of the live/acoustic cd was all taken from the Wiltern show as well.

One of my good friends, a die hard fan who got me into them passed up the Wiltern show since he was wasn't feeling good. He gets angry when I bring it up. I never let him forget it.

Without a doubt my #1 favorite show ever. While that was their best, I've seen em 8 times and every time has been a blast. Even went to a mini concert they did for Jimmy Kimmel.

Back on topic, for the $10 Raconteurs tickets, can you just go to the box office and buy them? I know that you need a promotional code to buy them on Ticketbastard but their service charges would probably more than double the price in this case.
