I always wondered why John Landis didn't use it in the movie, "An American Werewolf in London".

The song was competely snubbed for the movie.

It was mentioned by David Naughton and Griffin Dunne on the DVD commentary for An American Werewolf in London that there is no clear reason why John Landis did not incorporate this song into the soundtrack for the film. Although it may be due to the fact that the title of the song does not have the word "moon" in it, which all of the songs on the film do. ("Blue Moon", "Bad Moon Rising" and "Moondance").

That answer from Wikipedia isn't really an answer, it's more like a guess.
I would have prefered somebody just ask John Landis directly and get an answer.
I've googled it before and gotten nothing really defininative.
Plus information on the internet isn't usually fact checked and is unreliable. Wikipedia is only as good as the people entering it.

Well, why would there be a "definitive" answer at all? Why'd they cast David Naughton instead of someone who DIDN'T record a bad disco sitcom theme? Why'd he shoot in 1.85:1 instead of Panavision. Why London instead of Toronto?
Maybe he didn't think of it. Maybe he couldn't afford it (a likely answer). Maybe he didn't use it because it was too damn obvious, as evidenced by this conversation.
I'm not going to depend on Wikipedia for anything important, but for pop-culture stuff, it's pretty amazing. That entry points out that it's discussed on the commentary- which I didn't know because I haven't listened to it- and offers up a pretty good suggestion/guess. It's easy to check the soundtrack and see "Hey, all the songs DO have 'moon' in the title!" And if I'm really that interested, I can listen to the commentary now. (BTW- I'm NOT that interested. :) ) If someone has a better answer from a better source, cool.
If the internet is so unreliable, why were you Googling it? :) I've found Wikipedia is a better source than most...there's plenty of BS on there, but most of it is either obviously false, or flagged as questionable. Anybody can put a fake story up on any server and it will show up in Google, but Wikipedia is policed by everyone that uses it. If someone knows something to be false, they can edit it.
By comparison, all IMDB entries are supposedly "approved", but anybody can add anything. And people can't take false info down as easily. I've seen "facts" on there that directly contradict other "facts".
Well, that was a overly serious way of saying "Don't take things so seriously." See you next Wednesday. :D

I was just pointing out that it's not fact checked.
That's not going to stop me from googling and looking things up. I love the chaos of it all.

The real answer is he was saving it for his good friend Marty Scorcese to use in "The Color Of Money."
I think that is where I first started to hate that song, and then when The Phoenix Coyotes started playing it after every goal for the first 4 or 5 years they were here clinched it.

The only Coyotes game I ever went to, Zevon sang the national anthem.

Aw, come on. I mean, Tom Cruise is fucking despicable in that movie but that's kinda what he's supposed to be. The scene is fantastic--it made Zevon the mandatory pool-playing music of my household.
And his hair was perfect. Bip!

I think what I hated most was how he tried to use the pool cue as num-chucks.That movie only bothers me because it ruined for me one of the coolest movies ever,The Hustler.Incidentally,Jake LaMotta plays a bartender in the original one.How cool is that?

Everything about Vince is irritating as all fucking get-out. But that's what the character is supposed to be, I suppose. Frankly I still find it annoying to make one of your two main characters so unbelievably unlikable, but the movie survives through it. It is definitely a strange turn from The Hustler, although it's hard to pinpoint why exactly. I think it has something to do with the fact that in both movies the part of the storyline having to do with women fucking blows. They should have just stuck to pool, fuck it. And that part of the movie is more forgettable in The Hustler.
