i know i'm new, but i just wanted to introduce myself with everybody here. i love music and i'm Native American, so i just wanted to show you all some of our stuff.
my pic is of my dad. he is a fancy dancer and i'm about to start doing it next summer. i also sing. anyway, these two vids are of the powwow world. the first one is my favorite drum group. they are called EYABAY. the second video is what the men's fancy dance looks like. in the dance we are supposed to be creative and make up our own style of moves.
i know this stuff might seem weird to some of you, but i just figured that since we all like and attend a thing such as coachella, then maybe we can also be open to things such as this. hope you all like it!

The fancy dance is pretty impressive. Can you come up with your own variations?

yeah you can and it's really stressed that you do because guys do all sorts of crazy stuff. back flips, cartwheels, and splits like in the video.
there iare the basic footwork movements that most start out with, but you eventually have to pick it up near the end. some guys try to go all out and sometimes it's way too overblown and they sort of forget the main point of the dance. the men's fancy dance is also called the war dance. it's a spiritual dance that was started in oklahoma by the ponca and comanche tribes. plains Indians would do the original dance to get pumped for war parties.
i'm muskogee creek and seminole, the eastern tribes that came to oklahoma during the trail of tears, but most tribes all participate in powwow. oklahoma is my home state, but i go to college in santa fe NM.
heck, you even have different types of the singing. up north they sing louder and the songs tend to stretch out. in the south the pitch is lower, but the beats go from straight to bullet. we call fast songs bullets.
it's all just one part of the culture. there are alot more dances than just this!:D

If you're going to be facetious you should make an effort to be funny while doing it, that way we'll know.

that's awesome. when i was younger i use to want to do grass dance, but i have instead chosen fancy mostly because it seems to be getting less popular these days.

oh, by the way everybody, i'm not delta. i know who you are talking about. i read the thread where he was banned a long time ago. like i said in one of my first posts, i have been a fan of this site for a while. heck, i use to be on the old message board before they moved here.
i'm not that person.
i don't want to cause trouble for the sake of smugness.:rolleyes
