Brandon Cox's (of Deerhunter) side project is shaping up to be one of the most exciting acts right now. The first LP, "Let the Blind Lead Those Who Can See but Cannot Feel" (2008) is already a shoe in for the best of next year. It's pretty rare I get this excited by a band's first album. Cox signed with Kranky for this release and will be touring with lablemates White Rainbow and Valet (dates in the Upcoming Shows thread).
Check out some songs (http://www.myspace.com/bradfordcox).
What strikes me about the album is how restrained it is. Both melodically and lyrically, Cox holds himself at arms length, completely working through each element of the song before moving on. It's a lyrical tactic that Frog Eyes uses well, but Cox takes it a much more personal and less esoteric direction. Cox will repeat the same line 10 times, letting pronunciation and articulation slowly evolve until it takes on completely new meaning.
