Nobody should vote for this until There Will Be Blood has come out.

My dad just saw No Country for Old Men, he said that he loved it, but that the ending sucks.

I thought the ending was fantastic.
I've only seen that and There Will Be Blood. I think I liked No Country more but it is hard to say. I want to see both again.

The ending doesn't suck at all; it is the most perfect ending I have seen in a very long time.

No Country should win, but the Globes are a joke and it'll probably go to something like Atonement.
"They" love that sappy, crappy shit.

The ending is the most important part. Without that ending, you don't have much beyond a really good thriller.

I've seen Eastern Promises, American Gangster, and No Country For Old Men. Eastern Promises was the best out of those three.

I've only seen No Country, and I loved it, so it won't win.
Why the need to tack (Daniel Day Lewis) on the end on There Will Be Blood? Are there a bunch of other movies with the same title? I know this has been hyped heavily, but I just saw the trailer, and it didn't interest me at all. Come to think of it, DDL is one of those guys who I'm sure is in a bunch of quality movies, but I can't think of a single one that I've seen and enjoyed. Russell Crowe is another.

Yeah. I wouldn't be suprised if Atonement won. However, I think it's a good film and wouldn't really mind. Out of the three I saw (No Country, Atonement, & American Gangster) No Country For Old Men should definately win.
I think Eastern Promises comes out on dvd next week, so hopefully I'll finally catch that then.

My Left Foot
Last of the Mohicans
The Boxer
are all top notch movies. And I really liked him in There Will Be Blood.
I didn't really like Gangs of New York. I haven't seen In the Name of the Father. Or his other movies.
I can't help ya on Crowe.

Knowing these academies, I won't be surprized if American Gangster wins. "They" fucking love Denzel. (I mean, one of his films that isn't out yet got a nom.)
AG was sooo bad though.
Why aren't we talking about the comedies? If Juno wins, I'm gonna go on a killing spree.

Eh, nothing it's up against (that I've seen) is much better.
As for the dramas No Country is almost unimpeachably the best film of this year. Only There Will Be Blood can challenge it in my mind.

tee hee.
You spell like a character out of that Jonathan Strange and Mr Norrell novel. I need to re-read that actually. trippy magical shit.
I've only seen Eastern Promises, and it was pretty damn good, but I don't know if it was THAT good.

I wasn't a big fan of Eastern Promises at first, but it grew in reflection. This essay I read by David Bordwell (I think) comparing it to A History of Violence helped me appreciate it more.

Have you actually seen Atonement? It's not sappy at all. Like Ian McEwan's other work, it's very dark.

I figure if I read a book and I can't remember a damn thing about it, it probably wasn't very good and probably wouldn't make a remarkable movie. That's my rationale for not seeing Atonement.
