bmack, I've been very whelmed by the Shins live, as well. Also, Pinback (in a tiny venue, no less) were whelming, if not semi-underwhelming. Oh, and I second idrivr1life. Take it away...

3. What are you an expert at?
I know I should be able to figure it out,but what does idrive1life signify?
(Btw Breakjaw doesn't signify anything it's a stupid name me and a friend made up when they were printing badges for a computer convention to see if they'd do it)

I've always mistaken BMOTW as some kind of cool new band. I received the news via breakjaw's PM.
Thanks breakjaw and nothingman! Like what I told breakjaw, I feel so honored and hmmm, special now ... just look at those cool board member winners in the list.
1. Desert island record?
Getz/Gilberto
2. What were your childhood pets?
Fish - Too bad since childhood am allergic to dogs and cats.

;)
3. What are you an expert at?
I don't know - none. I'm a consumer whore though so I guess I'm an expert in retail therapy.
I know I should be able to figure it out,but what does idrive1life signify?
I just bought an iPod and Palm's Lifedrive when I registered in the old board. Hmmm #1? I saw a penny in the carpet when am about to hit submit or enter. heh heh
My avatar? I'm an obssessed & great fan of Editors since they blew me away when I saw them performed live (right before Coachella '06). It was also the time when my musical preference shifted to purely/mostly indie.
I'm a lifetime solid The Beatles fan though. I have'nt seen Muse but I'm now officially obssessing with that band.

what was one life-changing/near-religious experience of a concert that you've seen?
It's a festival not a concert for me -
Coachella '06 (over Woodstock '99! I'm a W99 survivor though we we're not able to witness any of the violence since we went home Sunday morning. And naah, Daft Punk's C06 performance is not life-changing/near religious experience neither it's best during C06 for me. I'm at the front row during DP's act.)

Oopps - sorry, deleted and have to repost this and now ugh ... some edits.
By the way, I also hate money but in the words of the great Dr. Will Kirby, I like nice stuffs, and oh well, money can buy nice stuffs so I kinda love money more than I hate them. I wish I have lot of them so I can also hang-out and go to Glastonbury Festival (even without tickets) :D
What do you think the new tracks from Editors will be like?
Most tracks will be as dark as Blood and Bullets with catchy and bombastic tunes of Munich. I wish that they at least cover themselves by remixing Bones if they indeed decide to include it (not unlike what The Arcade Fire did to No Cars Go). Whatever, I just hope that critics comparisons with them and Interpol would also go away but then I want their second to be really like Muse's Black Holes & Revelations' simmering symphonic rock tapestry feel.
How many times have you seen them live?
Three times (last one @ Coachella). I would go to Glastonbury just because of them (and Muse & The Arcade Fire) but it looks like my chance of getting a ticket this year is very slim to none.
If you were backed into a corner by a 7' zombie (you left your weapons in the other room), would you:
I hate Celine Dion but A, B, C might be useless and hopefully that zombie also hates CD so I will try scaring him with a Celine Dion song ... ugh
what's your favorite thing to go shopping for? Least favorite thing?
music vinyls & CDs - It's always exciting and fun for me going to (or at least look at those shiny and cool stuffs) Virgin Mega Store & Park Avenue CDs in Orlando OR any great B&M record bars anywhere in the world; Least favorite - clothes
Also, what single Beatles song do you enjoy most?
Twist and Shout (It is probably the greatest most fun song ever made but like most Beatlemaniacs, A Day in the Life is my most favorite followed closely by Eleanor Rigby & Norweigian Wood)
Which Beatle is your favorite? Also, what phase to you tend to enjoy the most?
John Lennon (of course); late Middle Period-early Studio Years/Psychedelic (around Rubber Soul, Revolver, Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band era)
Do you buy into the whole "it's Yoko's fault" thing?
No. It was Paul's fault. ;)

I've been in another Beatles phase recently, and I visited the Revolution lounge in the Mirage at Vegas. It wasn't overly awesome (Could have had a more direct Beatles vibe) but it did remind me of something that they would have frequented during the late 60s. Psychedelic. To celebrate, I listened to 7 hours worth of Beatles on my drive home.

Getz/Gilberto is an excellent choice.
If for some ridiculous reason, Ringo and Paul decided to perform live together for the hell of it and replace George and John for this one time event, who would you like to see fill those shoes?
idrive1life
02-25-2007, 10:14 PM
Wow, it's a pretty tough question. Let me think about it ... give me time to reflect on it. I've never thought anyone can replace John Lennon but hmm ... (naah, not even his sons) ... hmmm, should Beatlemaniacs hold a worldwide auditions? By the way they should do that reunion concert during the 50th year anniversary of the first meeting of John and Paul (around July? ... July 6?).
Well, let me say this first, if there's one single (gig) moment in musical history that I want to be part of was that of The Beatles spontaneous unannounced concert at the rooftop of the Apple headquarters.

Phil Collins is a true Beatles fan but he does not sound like John. Look at him in those bootlegs The Beatles video gigs.
Noel Gallagher and Brendan Benson might be too young but should be good candidates to be John Lennon. They are both diehard The Beatles fans. If I'm not mistaken, Noel also chose John as his Beatle man recently so ...
bmack86
02-25-2007, 10:25 PM
I don't know if I'd want to see one of the Oasis guys as a fill-in for John. In appropriate Lennon fashion, I feel like it would have to be someone slightly shocking. I can't imagine who, however.
idrive1life
02-25-2007, 10:27 PM
slightly shocking? Okay, Kevin Barnes is out since he is American (oh well so is Brendan). ;) But then John would definitely love that guy ... I mean for world peace ...
bmack86

Any of the OTC guys would be cool also, and they're skewed enough to make it work. Kevin Barnes would be fantastic. He's just eccentric enough.

thinnerair,
We are open for suggestions (am going to sleep). Who do you think should be? bmack, would you a thread poll for me (top 10 suggestions - my #1 is Noel Gallagher#2 Thom Yorke #3 Phil Collins)?
idrive1life
02-25-2007, 11:07 PM
Can't sleep and I just realized by the way, George Harrison would had turned 64 today/yesterday. My choice of to be GH is Eric Clapton.
And also ... Yoko Clearing Way for Revived Beatles Track?
Paul McCartney wants one last crack (at least until another old tape surfaces) to work with songwriting partner John Lennon. Earlier reports had McCartney keen to go back in the studio to add some harmonies to a John Lennon lead vocal track of a song they wrote decades ago called "Now and Then."
The remaining Beatles reportedly considered releasing the song in the 1990s, but George Harrison apparently wasn't happy with the song. McCartney was quoted as saying "It needed a bit of reworking but it had a beautiful verse."
Now, Yoko Ono has apparently chimed in saying she doesn't mind Sir Paul resurrecting the song. Ono reportedly said "It's up to them. But no, I'm not against it." There is no report on the Harrison estate weighing in on the venture. As for Ringo, I imagine he's happy just to be possibly involved.

Yeah I can't wait for the new Editors and I'd like to see them live again. It sucked that they had to go up against Madonna but the tent sure was roomy eh?
Good zombie answer although head butting was the right answer. We're talking about a rotting human with a very fragile skull. Celine would only pacify him temporarily. Better luck next time.

I was born in Eugene, Oregon. Last fall I moved to San Francisco. That's everywhere, unfortunately. Boring, but well-adjusted.
I'd love to be a writer. It's idealistic and unlikely. But you never know.

I would rather they win, because I like pittsburgh. That's about the extent of my steelers knowledge.
I've been to a few pirates games though. Not that I know anything about baseball (or any other sport for that matter).
I spent 2nd-5th grade in a suburb of Pittsburgh. Was there when they won the World Series.
Steelers released Joey Porter today.

i usually carmelize some onions first, and then saute in some really good mushrooms, and then some button ones for filler. then butter, breadcrumbs, parmesan, and whatever you have that looks good.
then i mix it all into cream cheese, and put more parmesan on top.
bake/350.
crap. i'm getting hungry.
oh. my. god.
You need to hook up with someone at Coachella that has access to an oven. If I were staying at a resort this year (like I usually do), you would SO be cooking me up some stuffed mushrooms in my room. I mean, if you were OK with that. :)
But alas, I am camping.

well, i have a lot of favorites. I love the Decemberists, the BJM, Dandies, Johnny Cash, Pixies, Zeppelin, Beck, ACDC... Pretty much all across the board. I'll listen to anything once. Lately I've been listening a lot to Cab Calloway, and I've just recently fallen in love--seriously, LOVE--with the black keys.
The best concert is an impossible question. The one i was most floored by is probably the Yard Dogs (same one as the "weirdest show" thread). it was amazing. sideshow/burlesque/band.

Is your roommate someone that you can confide in (like a longterm friend) or is it assigned rooming? How does your insomnia affect her and do you sometimes like to watch her sleep and wish horrible, horrible things on her because she looks so peaceful (only you really don't want anything even remotely bad to happen to her)?
Also, favorite Otter Pop flavor and then (separate question) who is your favorite Otter Pop character? It's ok if you have never heard of Otter Pops, but entirely inexcusable if you prefer Flavo-Ice to Otter Pops...

Today, when I was leaving the apartment, she asked where I was going, and I told her I was going to the bank, and then to meet a friend. I have no idea how she misconstrued this, but she somehow ended up thinking I was going to a "showgirl bank". I'm not sure what she meant when she said showgirl bank, but I had a really hard time not laughing at the thought of bank tellers strutting down a runway. Now, couple that with my neglect to explain to her about the file of references I have for my figure drawing class. I think she has some pretty strange ideas about me.

And now that I have kids, I'm torn between wanting to take them to shows so they could have that kind of experience and not wanting to take them to shows because it might be like a mild form of child abuse, at least in the minds of other people. So far, I've only taken them to see the White Stripes because that was their favorite band, although now the way my older daughter clamors for the Daft Punk bootleg, I may have to take them to see Daft Punk!

I definitely remember loving small, intimate venues, seated shows rather than big energetic ones. We'd always take some blankets, and I'd be totally comfortable. I always had a great time. I think the only time I remember not having a blast was the time I came down with a fever at a Greg Brown show. Plus I lost a pink saltwater sandal at that show. That sucked.

But I digress,if EITS and Placebo conflict, which do you choose on Sunday?

AEversW

yeah you can boil them for 10 minutes maybe less. The season them and cook them in tin foil in the over. Then when they are almost done take them out of the tin foil and put bbq sauce on them and cook until the sauce has carmalized. Not too bad without a grill. Thats how i make ribs in the winter time.
TomAz

what does the boiling do?
AEversW
03-09-2007, 11:47 AM
it gives them a headstart on cooking. If you just put the ribs in the oven without boiling them they will burn on the outside and won't be done on the inside. Just put some garlic powder and or onion powder and whatever other spices you want in the water and boil them.
damn this ctaully sounds good...i need to go to the store and get ribs now!

Also, um yeah molecular biology, you're educated and stuff. How do you feel about the American education system where it costs $$$ or you get a need-based scholarship to attend higher education, as compared to Europe where it's free or very inexpensive, but merit-based?

I went to Price, Utah. Price is a small mining town in southeastern Utah. My girlfriends parents live there. It was very uneventful. St. Patricks day was pretty crazy. I woke up at 10:00 am and had to walk four miles to pick up my car from the night before. I then proceeded to drink numerous mimosas before starting on my case of Guinness at around 1:00 pm. We then went to a pub and drank green beer for a few hours (my tongue is still green). After that we walked to one of my friends house and played pool and watched the rest of the basketball games that were on. I then attempted to go to a bar at around 11:00 pm. I was unsuccessful in entering that bar because I was "visibly intoxicated" I started arguing with the bouncer and then everything went downhill. I am going to leave it at that. Luckily my girlfriend and her friend were there or else I would have ended up in jail, which would have blown (no pun intended).

Courtney,
I believe the american education system needs some work. There was just a law passed in Utah that said illegal aliens get the benefit of in-state tuition immediately, but if you move here from another state you have to pay out of state tuition until you gain residency. That doesnt make sense to me. Getting into college based on merit could be a good thing to adopt here. However, some kids dont care about education until they "grow up." Thus, I believe it is the parents responsibility to stress education throughout the childs life and make the child think that college is necessary. If the child has that kind of attitude he/she will not only want to attend college, but maybe work harder in middle school and/or high school in hopes of obtaining a scholarship.
breakjaw
03-19-2007, 07:56 AM
Have you ever known someone who has seen a U.F.O.?Or a ghost?
Courtney
03-19-2007, 08:02 AM
That's cool. I think a lot of kids go to college before they're really ready for the experience, and as a result waste a lot of time and money basically goofing around and doing stuff they could be doing out of school. I feel bad for parents who pay a lot of money so that their kids can sit around and do nothing. I had several friends who took a gap year or (several gap years) between high school and college, or between college and grad school, and I think that this is a good idea.
Illegal immigrant rights is a whole other question. Here in Los Angeles, it's definitely an omnipresent issue. I'm not sure what the solution is, or even if there is a solution at all. I do think that there should be some sort of amnesty for children whose parents brought them here illegally when they were too young to have any part in the decision, but as for everyone else -- it's a bit more tricky. Given the extent to which our national economy relies on illegal labor, it's definitely not as simple as kicking everyone out, but at the same time, I don't think people should be rewarded for breaking laws.
Also, were the mimosas green? Because that would be nasty.
kreutz2112
03-19-2007, 08:09 AM
Breakjaw, I dont know anyone who has seen a U.F.O, but when I was little I had a really high fever and was hallucinating and swam with ghost fish.

I dont ever remember thinking about how alcohol is interacting with me. We did get into a conversation about different races having more or less alcohol dehydrogenase (enzyme that breaks down ethanol to make you less drunk) activity. Apparently it has been shown that Native Americans (not stereotyping this is a study) have the greatest alcohol dehydrogenase activity, which is why they can drink so much. If I were to guess I would say my alcohol dehydrogenase activity is fairly average (i.e. I can drink a lot, but not that much before I pass out/throw up). As for hangovers, there are a number of theories out there, but none have been tested thoroughly enough to be considered the actual reason as to why we get hangovers. I think that it is a combination of dehydration, hypoglycemia, and ethanol byproducts.

Given the powers of God, what three artists would you ressurect from the dead (people, not 3 bands), where would you like to see them play live, and who would you like to see them collaborate with until their time of undead-itude comes to an end and they revert back to bones and dust?
kreutz2112
03-20-2007, 08:52 AM
If I were to ressurect 3 artists:
1. John Lennon. Obvious. I would like to see him play on the Great Wall of China. I could imagine (hahaha) people from all over the world coming to this one spot to watch him perform. It would be the largest gathering of people in the history of the world and I would love to be a part of that. As far as collaborations are concerned I would want a special guest to come out for every song. Paul and Ringo obviously, but other special guests would include Bjork, Sufjan Stevens and John Darnielle.
2. Bradley Nowell. I would actually feel bad for bringing him back (I would also feel bad for bringing Kurt Cobain back which is why am omitting him from this list). I dont think he/they wanted to be here and I wouldnt want to make him/them be here. However, having all original members of Sublime play at one of my backyard bbq's while I was drinking Heinekins would be heavenly.
There would be no collaborations at this concert.
3. Leonardo da Vinci. He is not a musical artist, but I would want to meet him and show him what the "future" was like and how influential his work is on pretty much every aspect of life.
This was a good question. Howver, instead of bringing people back from the dead to the present time. I would rather go back in time to see these people I have listed, along with others, in their prime. I think if we brought them back to the present time it would be overwhelming and they couldnt really be themselves.
