So I really couldn't resist, and since so many of you have already commenced the grumbling; a perspective.
I have had plans to attend my first Coachella since last April. And, naturally, last year's amazing lineup played a huge roll in my decision to attend in '08. On the other hand, I have attended Bonnaroo for the past two years; '06 with Radiohead and a jaw-dropping lineup, and '07 with a lineup the pretty much blew(especially in the case of headliners:Widespread Panic and The Police.
The message boards were flooded with threads sharing the same sentiments of better years past and a festival that could never reach those benchmarks again.......this is rubbish. As a 'Roo veteran, I have always envied Coachella's diverse acts and appeal. I even feel that GV's exemplary festival even raised the bar for Bonnaroo. And last year, despite a lineup that paled in comparison to 'chella, I had an amazing, enlightening time.
Part of the atmosphere of both festivals is broadening your horizons and allowing yourself to be suprised by the unknown, or better yet what you expected to suck.
I will still attend Coachella this year in the hopes of meeting and boogie'n with a group of amazing people who care enough about this festival to demand the best.
Cheers.
