if it has anything to do with reading, i need absolute silence. but if it's math or science or anything that doesn't require concentration for extended periods of time, i used to put on either classical or some loungy electronic-type stuff. maybe some moby. i wish i was in school now cause i have a lot better stuff i could listen to than i had in high school/college.

Depends on what kind of homework it is. For anything technical / computer related, I find that listening to metal helps me. (The classic type, not screamo). Also, I found the following music to work for me:
Black Mages
The Blue Man Group
Bob Marley

your a fucking idiot.
I am with tessa. I cant really listen to anything with lyrics when I am studying or reading and it has to be pretty mellow and downtempo. I usually listen to electronic music when I study.

it was usually stuff like Sigur Ros, Mogwai or Godspeed, but sometimes, depending on the type of work I could listen to just about anything, Jawbox, RFTC, Fugazi...i think if it was more straightforward stuff

I put on Mogwai when I study sometimes, that seems to help.

I used to listen to a lot of Tortoise while I studied.

why did you capitalize every word? Is that the title of a book or something? Here's the title of my book.
The Garden State Soundtrack: Music For Masturbation.

would you prefer a hyphen instead because the title is not set in stone yet.

I appreciate your flexibility on this matter. I think short titles are best. None of this "Catchy pun on popular culture: academic catchword jargon for/in/of random really specific thing that nobody cares about."
Titles with two or three words are best. It's revolutionary!

good point, but I am at a loss because Garden State Soundtrack is already three words and I have to fit "Masturbation" into the title somehow. Also, this is not a novel it's more of a guide.

Cut out the State, and just leave it as Masturbation Garden Soundtrack. Much simpler.

The movie and the soundtrack ARE probably better than 80% of the stuff being made in Hollywood. Which isn't to say they are good.

I don't remember studying too much...I would do it the day before or the day of, while riding the ferry (while attending SFSU), and I would usually have Underworld or just my ipod on shuffle. At NVC, I would also usually just do it the day of (had time to kill) and again would just usually have my ipod on shuffle...

I usually put on Mozart or Miles Davis.

Actually now that I think about it, my musical study habits were pretty distinct depending on what I was studying. For humanities and social science, I liked listening to post-rock stuff like Tortoise, Stereolab, Mogwai and Godspeed. Maybe sometimes more jazz or minimalist electronica too. For math and economics, I preferred classic rock or glam rock.
