My fiance gets her birth control filled at Wal-Mart because they will give her a three month supply as opposed to other places giving her a one month supply. Anyway, we never buy anything else there, but the line for the pharmacy was long so I went and got some groceries while she waited in line. I went to the deli and wanted to throw up when I saw the lady that was going to get me some cheese. She weighed 300+ pounds and sweat was running down her face. I opted for no cheese. We ended up leaving with no food and no birth control. I am never going back to Wal-Mart. The people that shop there made me sick also. I can only imagine how it is in other states (I am in Utah). I hate poor people.

The Wal-Mart birth control plan for 3 months may sound good, but if everyone left because of that line, it explains the obvious lack of birth control being used everytime I walk into that place. Sovereign wealth funds in the Gulf, whose coffers are swelling from high oil prices, as well as counterparts in Asia, have been snapping up stakes in banks battered by losses from subprime U.S. mortgages.

In the past six months, sovereign wealth funds made investments in Citigroup, Merrill Lynch and Morgan Stanley. Citigroup alone has received $14.5 billion from investors including Singapore and Kuwait in the past two months.

"Subprime losses are clearly not confined to U.S. banks, and European banks are seeking funding," said Giyas Gokkent, head of research at National Bank of Abu Dhabi. "Gulf funds have surpluses to spend and are looking for long-term appreciation. If investments help develop their domestic financial markets, too, so much the better."

Bruno Daher, co-chief executive for the Middle East at Credit Suisse, declined to comment Monday, as did a bank spokesman, Marc Dosch.

Credit Suisse shares jumped 1.75 Swiss francs, or 3.2 percent, to close Monday at 56.75 francs, or $51.33, in Zurich.

Credit Suisse reported Thursday a fourth-quarter net loss of 12.5 billion francs, as it wrote off $13.7 billion in soured U.S. investments, mostly on subprime loans.

UBS is seeking shareholder approval this month to raise 13 billion francs from Singapore and an unidentified Middle Eastern investor through a sale of bonds convertible into shares.

Qatar's decision to buy Credit Suisse stock in the open market "makes all the difference" to investor confidence in the bank, according to Christof Reichmuth, chief executive of Private Bank Reichmuth in Luzern, Switzerland.

"They are not selling equity or mandatory convertible bonds to boost their capital like UBS did," he said. "Even though 2008 won't be a great year for Credit Suisse either, this should be read as a sign of strength rather than weakness."

In March 2006, Credit Suisse became the first European bank to get a license for the Qatar Financial Center, a self-regulated business park designed to attract lenders to the Gulf state as part of a plan to diversify the economy away from oil and natural gas.

The Swiss bank "has had a long-standing relationship with Qatar," Joachim Strähle, head of private banking for Asia, the Middle East and Russia, said at the time.

The Group of 7 leading industrialized democracies agreed at a meeting this month in Tokyo that policy issues surrounding sovereign wealth funds must be "measured" while "remaining vigilant against protectionist sentiment," according to the U.S. Treasury secretary, Hank Paulson Jr.

Asked about such concerns, particularly worries being aired in Washington, Sheik Hamad said that he was surprised by the resistance to investment and that the idea was to help financial institutions.

"The sovereign fund is from friendly countries, especially this region," he said "They have no political ambitions. They are looking to invest their wealth for the people of these countries."

Western nations and the Gulf have been investing in each other's economies for many years, he added. Because of high oil prices, "I think it's wise to invest it," he said. "So I'm surprised for the concern. I know they should have some kind of transparency, which we have."

Qatar, which has a population of fewer than one million, holds 1.3 percent of global crude oil reserves.

Sheik Hamad also announced that Qatar was creating $1 billion funds in Finland and Malaysia, similar to the investment fund Qatar said in December it was setting up with Indonesia.

I respectfully disagree. I went bowling recently and there were no white people there. Granted it was at one of those "I'm a bowling alley but trying to act like a night club place". If I went to a trashy bowling alley I'm sure it would all be vanilla. But not this place though.
