That'd be cool, but it wouldn't make or break my Coachella experience. In fact, I've seen them so many times back in the day, I'd probably skip 'em at 'chella to see some other bands I wasn't as familiar with...

I was actually going to start this thread today. Cake would seriously be so amazing. It would get me more excited then Aphex Twin. They do have a gap in their schedule, so they could easily do it.
If the pulled Cake, I would be deleriously happy. Do it GV! Please?

Not only does John McCrea pretty much disdain touring, but I remember reading on here that Cake's set at Coachella a few years ago was abysmal.
I still love their music, though.

Ah well...fingers crossed? It would definitely be an extra plus.

I'm down for that. Thats one band I been dying to see live. I wanted to see them New Years Eve in San Francisco at The Warfield but that show sold out quick.

i like some cake, but i have to admit it was hilarious watching them walk off stage of "that damn show" in phoenix in 1998.
they were retards though. everyone was throwing water bottles on the stage. so when it was their turn to play, the first thing they said was "if anyone throws a water bottle, we're walking". so of course everyone instantly threw their water bottles on stage and they walked. i heard they got boo'ed off the stage at another phoenix show, but i can't remember which. they have bad luck with touring, lol.

Wow... I've seen a lot of positives and negatives regardiung past tour stories with them. I've seen them twice at First Avenue club in Minneapolis, and both times they put on a very good show. They get the crowd involved too which is fun. I did hear that a year or so after the last time I saw them in Minneapolis, they played an outdoor gig as a headliner for a beer sponsored concert also in Minneapolis. I heard they were awful there.
So maybe they're a band where you just hope they feel like playing on a given day, and decide not to be like Axl Rose lol. But it would be a fun addition. Since I've seen them twice, I'd probably pass on them too if there's a conflict with another act I'd wanna see.

Hmmm I dont really listen to Cake. But a friend of mine went to go see them in concert. He hates them - he took his fiancee because it was her birthday. However, he said he really enjoyed the show, that they put on a really good performance. He had that opinion, despite hating them beforehand.
Also, Cake would be a pretty good compromise to the rock fans of coachella. The EDM folks got their Aphex Twin and Goldfrapp, so it'd be pretty fair to give Cake to the rockers.

Saw Cake at the Orpheum in LA and they blew me away. You can kinda tell that McCrea is pissed off he isn't a bigger rockstar though.

Ugh. No thanks. Worst ever remakes. They'll burn in disco hell for doing such a poor remake of "I Will Survive".

You're the first person I've heard that doesn't liek their version of "I will Survive". What's actually sad, is if you ask a lot of Cake's younger fans, they's actually think that song is an original, and not a cover.

Holy Sh!T, the crowd was uterally retarded in '96 too. For one they hit Gibby Haynes, lead singer for the Butthole Surfers, in the face with a large coke, making the the band walk off stage and secondly they lit a fire in the lawn area, which smoked out the entire concert.
It was one of my first shows within AZ and luckily it was the worst, but I was pretty pissed off at all of the Zoners.

This originally was due to the wars between ticket providers.

This show was the worst example I could think of. Though this one is kind of funny: In late '96 during a Soundgarden show the bassist broke his guitar on stage and tried to stage dive into the crowd to pummel someone 5 feet to my right. I'm not sure if his reaction was warranted, he was having some problems during the time frame right before Soundgarden broke up.
For the most part the many shows/crowds I saw in AZ from '96-'01 were as well behaved as anywhere else that I have been.

it's not just crap like that, but the heat. warped tour 98 in the PARKING LOT of the celebrity theatre at the end of june in phoenix was one of the stupidest ideas ever. there were lines for the water fountains curling around the building for days. and not to mention the inside of the theatre, jesus. i went inside to watch the mad caddies and that place was trashed.
i think generally bands hate the heat here. and what the hell does "scene queen central" mean?!?!

Yeah, I wondered 'bout that myself.
When I was raving in the AZ during the mid to late nineties we had a lot of the snooty scenester ravers, but it was almost warranted since we did have a pretty damn good rave scene back then.

yeah, unfortunately i didn't get in until about '99. even compared to some other parts of the country, we still pull heads every now and then.

John is like hitler. I have been on 6 dates with them around the US about 5 or 6 years ago. the man is crazy. he demands sing alongs, screams at people, leaves sets early for no reason.. he is a control freak and he definitely hates touring.
it was the weirdest thing to see some of the funnest poppy alternative music come from such a hard edge angry control freak...
