aftere thinking about how Tiesto closed the night out last yr after the RHCP headlining spot;
might there be a possibility that Aphex would play after JJ?

Again with the Fatboy Slim stuff. This isn't 1997. Plus, he's billed under Aphex...what does that tell you?

Aphex could do it for sure...

can you imagine Aphex playing to nearly 60 thousand with all his bugged out tweaks? There is no mainsteam appeal to Aphex, and thats why he wont be on the mainstage, despite being an excellent add and huge amongst electronic music fans.

I know that there is no chance of Aphex playing main. But if Aphex has no chance...Fatboy Slim has even less of a chance.

What I'm trying to say is that there really isn't any chance of either of them playing main so why even speculate?

Niether will Tiesto....I think that you believe that ones musical worth is based on how many people they can get to come see them.

And by the way...Portishead won't be selling out any arenas either...but everyone seems to be stuck so far up their ass....

Listen, I think Aphex has as much of a following as Portishead. Portishead is a headliner...I like Portishead, but by your logic they should be playing Sahara as well...

I keep waiting to see Fatboy Slim on VH1 "Where Are They Now?"

No one can say where Aphex will be. My best guess says in the tent opposite Jack Johnson, but who knows? No one knows the day, time, area, or if Richard will even show up. Only Richard knows when he'll be there. I'm just gonna stand in the middle of the fields until I hear high pitched screaming and scraping noises and then I'll follow the sounds.

Tiesto already sold out arenas only DJ ever to do so actually. LA Sports Arena was sold out when he went a few weeks after Coachella last year. And Aphex Twin is not really a crowd pleaser. you and others may feel he is, but its really a small portion if he had a larger following like Tiesto does hed have more of a commerical success ie Radiohead.

Fatboy slim could be in Main stage, He does have a mass appeal in a commercial sense. And really his live stuff isn't that bad he doesn't play Rockafeller Skank type music anymore its back to his roots of just dance music. I saw him last year and it was very very entertaining. Not life changin but does everythign have to be?

Last year, the poster specified that Tiesto would be on the main stage.

What's the history of electronic acts closing out the Main Stage?

Aphex Twin will play in the tent directly opposite Jack Johnson. AT following JJ would be idiotic, imo.

No reason an electronic act CAN'T close the main two nights in a row. I think GV may be seeing since Kraftwerk in 04 and Daft much more so in 06 that a big enough electronic draw just won't fit in the Sahara. JJ is a bit mellow to close out the night, Fatboy has just as much mainstream recogition with most of Coach's age demographic as Kraft does and more than Tiesto did. JJ won't have much of a stage setup to break down, so why not JJ 9-10:30 opposite Aphex appealing to the serious EDM people in the Sahara, then Fatboy going 10:45 to close on the main to end with something upbeat (although utter shite) and full of flashy lights. Besides, the current Sahara crowd is so teenybopper and dance-insistent they'll want some simple Big Beat crap after Aphex's curious and disturbing whatever-the-fuck-genre he decides he's gonna spin.

A aphex show in the UK is like not so much a event because it happens loads more "frequent" there then it does here..considering it has been 6 years since RDJ has "performed" a show here, it is much more of a event. I also expect something a little special because of it. I have a feeling that GV offered him a little more $$$ for something more then him on his laptop (even if that is the case, if it is anything like it was the last time I saw him at ATP UCLA we are still in for a treat)...

As far as the Aphex question...He won't play main, obviously. I will wager that the crowd at the Sahara during Aphex will be comparable to the crowd that was around for Daft Punk...Aphex will overflow Sahara for sure.

Jarvis Cocker hadn't toured America since the days of Pulp back in 1998, and that tour was only a handful of cities on the east coast.

do not come to this festival. if i find any way of recognizing you at all on the polo fields, i am going to kill you. i am going to put my middle finger to your face, remove a large blade from it's sheath within my pants, and slice thinly from your gooch to your forehead. afterward, i am going to slowly peel your outer layer of skin from your face back down to your gooch, all the while blood oozing from your fresh wounds down the center, eventually fully exposing your inner muscle and tendon structure to the entirety of the polo field. you will be presented as a sacrifice to RDJ on the mainstage during his set, wherein he and i will share a smoothie made from your blood and possibly non-vital organs as they will blend easiest.

BTW...Nine Inch Nails does not have nine members. And there's only 4 to 5 guys in Front 242. And Assemblage 23 is... :rolleyes

Richard D James had a twin that died at birth.

End of discussion.

Actually, he wasn't a twin. His older brother died at birth. That's why they were both named Richard.

Pyramid or no pyramid. Aphex Twin will be Friday's "unofficial" headliner in the vain that Daft Punk was on Saturday in 2006. Expect something epic on whatever stage he is on.

teamcoachella, you were in the atp show in 2002, so I take it like you should have an idea of how many people will want to see aphex.

squarepusher or autechre don't do gigs that often here because the lack of appeal of idm. and do you really think his draw will be larger than daft punk's?

Yeah, Daft Punk has songs that casual music listeners have actually heard.

Not larger but something of equal size is what I expect. The biggest thing that sticks out from ATP was the sheer ape shit that hit when the music started. I have yet to attend a show that matched that. People all around screaming that he was a god and whatnot and I have yet to see people clamour for someone the way they did there.

Again, my argument is not that he will draw a bigger crowd then anyone but that the spectacle will be quite similar. What I stated was expect something epic no matter what stage he is on..

yes but 'casual music fans,' like boourns said, don't know anything about that show and the level of awesomeness.

Yeah, people who were at that gig will probably want to see him again no matter what, but I wouldn't expect something ala daft punk.

What will draw them will be to see what all the noise is about. I don't expect something as grand as the pyramid or something to out do it. Far from it, however I do expect a little more then the standard laptop RDJ. Since he is probably working with a budget of sorts from Goldenvoice. ATP is a gem for the line ups and diversity of acts, not the budget. Word will spread from weirdos like me. And while I don't expect converts at all, I do expect him to scramble some brains to pieces. When folks come back the next day they will have a What the fuck was that process to it. Which I think will be fun.

Whatever stage he plays, I'm hoping that his set will feature an intense visual presentation. If he showed up with some massive video screens, and actually played some of his "hits," (come to daddy, windowlicker, etc.) that would be a mythic set that would go down in history as one of Coachella's finest moments. Like Daft Punk, except evil. Everything I've read about his live sets on these boards seems to indicate that he rarely plays anything recognizable from his catalogue. Maybe the real trick up Paul's sleeve is not that he simply booked Aphex, but that he convinced him to dip into the catalogue and deliver the goods. Here's hoping....

Aphex Twin can lick my gooch too, but I like my gooch licked, and would love him to lick it. Aphex Twin sucks too, hopefully my balls.

Wait, wasn't "The Gooch" Arnold's nemesis from Diff'rent Strokes? Are you two actually implying that you're bringing elementary school bullies with you and that RDJ should lick them? There's other websites for that kind of thing, if you're interested.

I agree 100% with this comment.

Trick...I am a huge EDM fan and have been partying since the good ol days. When I heard Daft Punk was going to be at coachella I thought "that should be cool I guess" Like many others I had heard their classics but I never realized how much ass they were going to stomp that night. Back then they were not known for such epic shows. Just like everyone else that night I was completely blown away.

Aphex Twin will be as good or better than that night I guarantee it

Y'all are fucking deluding yourselves if you think he's going to put on some big extravaganza lightfest. That's for distracting the audience from the fact that your music is a straight-up ripoff of old 70s songs with some shitty vocoder thrown on top of it. You'll get RDJ and some equipment. That's it.

Are you against big extravaganza lightfests? Does Radiohead ripoff 70's songs that I'm unaware of or were you referring to "EDM"? I'm not trying to be an ass, I'm actually curious...
