does anybody know how strict they are on the "no detachable lenses" rule?

i have a nikon d40x that i wanna smuggle in...im thinking about separating the lens and camera when i enter and putting the lens in a friend's bag or something.

last year i brought in a fatty digital camera that almost couldve looked like a prof. but i just put it in a small bag in my purse and they didtn even check

has anyone gotten theirs confiscated??

My friend has gotten his in with no problem the past couple years. He usually separates the lens from the camera. I have never seen one confiscated at the door. My guess is that they would just tell you to take it back to your car, but who knows.

if you are able to sneak in your camera and they see you with it inside, they'll kick you out.

and you'll have to buy a ticket to re-enter.

or so I've heard.

Getting it past the security checkpoint is one thing. Using it while you're there is another. Only pull it out when you're in a crowd and don't wear it around your neck all day like an idiot or anything like that.

And you have been warned:

if you are able to sneak in your camera and they see you with it inside, they'll kick you out.

and you'll have to buy a ticket to re-enter.

or so I've heard.

If by chance you DO get caught, just play along, follow the procedure, don't question it and try not to get kicked out. Oh, and bring spare memory cards.

thanks guys

i had no idea they'd kick you out if they saw you INSIDE with a camera; i thought for sure the hard part would just be getting past the security.

it's probably not even worth it then..i dont want to have to deal with the stress of possibly getting kicked out. bleh. i guess ill just settle for mediocre photography

I normally use my Canon 20d (which you can bring into the campground just fine) but for inside the festival, I use a Canon S5 IS which is technically a point and shoot but it's the highest end point and shoot and is almost SLR quality. No detachable lens :P

Yeah, that'd work, but I'd rather bring a powershot or something not as bulky. I don't bring my slr because of that, and not because I can't sneak it in. I don't want to be carrying it from one place to another and watching it out all the time.

So you have gotten your S5 in the venue with no problem? Because I have one and am bringing it this year. It's not an SLR so I know they cant kick me out with it, but it looks like an SLR, so I'm expecting them to question it.

has anyone ever experienced the security people at the gate being sympathetic to photo students, letting them bring in their camera w/ removable lens ....my final is due after and i wanted it to be about my trip and experience at coachella....
