I have to rant about this. What the fuck is going on with these kids? Do they look in the mirror every morning and say "Hey, I look like good"?? You look like a doodle from my roommate's acid trips. Not to mention that you're basically wearing a uniform. I couldn't believe how many carbon copies there were at Coachella this year. It was waaaay worse than the last time I was there. Ugh.

So I wore one of those fedora hats to protect my scalp from getting burnt, and MY GOD I had no idea how popular they were. I saw one like every two feet.

Nah...the worst was the group of "speedo guys."
NEWSFLASH: Wearing a speedo to a festival in order to make yourself seem like some sort of hipster version of Jackass only makes people not want to be near you.
I was in the Heineken tent getting a nice cold beer when a few of those douchebags rolled in...about half the tent left...and the other half talked shit.

Yeah, I noticed that too, tons of people with nice fedoras, crisp dockers type shorts, it seemed like an yachting on the East Coast or preppy thing. I couldn't figure out if it was cause of Vampire Weekend or is a just a popular look right now.
Did anyone see the group of 5 or 6 girls and a couple guys each with a certain color ? Like all in orange with orange accesories and toys, another all in red, one in green, gold, etc, Or the girl with like a back of a monkey print on a towel she had made into a hood and cape, then attached ears too ?

Pretty much and when you're not part of the scene you finally notice how ridiculous it is.
... That being said, anorexic dudes in daisy duke running shorts, head bands, and cheapass sunglasses that used to come in Wendy's Happy Meals that they are probably paying at least 20 bucks for now is the douchiest scene of my lifetime.

its like a neo 80s movement but believe it or not far worse than the actual 80s...these kids were born in the 90s maybe late 80s like 88 89 and they act like they remember the 80s. They are products of the 00s not the 80s.

I think most fashion trends are pretty bad but I honestly believe the neo-80's hipster "thing" that we saw so much of at Coachella is the worst fashion trend since disco bellbottoms and shit. And maybe even worse than that.

I can never understand how willingly people give in to follow trends and play dress up thinking it makes them cool, but in reality, they look like all the rest of the retarded little wannabes parading around in headbands and colorful plastic sunglasses
microserfs21
04-29-2008, 11:38 AM
Not that I actually take part in these trends but really who gives a fuck. Let them do their thing, they are not hurting you. Should they dress like you instead? Then we would have everyone dressing in the same most likely semi-boring clothing (clothing that I wear for the most part). You can call it a uniform but at least we have different groups of people following different trends so that not all 300 million people in the US dress the same.

I won't judge them.
They don't look any dumber/odder/curious-er/cornier than I did when I was 16 in 1983 and sporting Robert Smith hair and running around entirely in black.
Besides, they make me smile and laugh because they inspire me to think about what I must have looked like to "grown-ups" when I was their age.

this year it seemed like there were two types of coachella attendees:
people who came for the music, and people who came to be seen.
and this year it seemed like the people who were there to be seen vastly outnumbered the actual music fans.

Some of these guys are TOO FUCKING COMFORTABLE wearing nothing but man panties and trendy glasses. Seriously, I saw so many groups of teenage guys walking around shirtless, with tight ass short shorts on. How the fuck do you even propose that idea to your friends for the first time without sounding like a huge queer? You don't. There is a line. It has been crossed.
edit:
And the worst part is, since hipster guys all agree that that's fucking cool and trendy, the hipster girls have no choice but to think that it's cool too. What ever happened to getting poon from having a big dick? Now it's whoever can expose their tiny cock in the trendiest way gets the most girls.

Most of the people doing the moaning are veterans who started coming for the music...you know...back before Coachella became the "place to see and be seen."
Now it seems like Coachella has transitioned into a place for little hipster wannabes to try out their new schtick before going back to whatever lame-ass town they come from and trying it there. It's like a costume party for assholes.

I'm simply mystified how kids between the ages of 15-20 could afford to attend this festival. I know that many of these kids come from affluent families and receive financial support from their family (which is totally cool as hell), but when I was 20, I barely had enough food to eat...I suppose I'm just envious.

I wouldn't generalize like that. Me and my friends that went (4 of us, all 16-17) all have jobs. we work and save money. just because someone is between 15-20 and going to Coachella doesn't mean that they are from wealthy families.

I had to save over 6 paychecks and I'm still in debt. Missed a lot of fun times and local concerts, so it sucked for a good while but Coachella made it worth saving money for.

I didn't bring a belt and accidentally packed Southpole shirts my cousin bought for me, so I guess people thought I was ghettofabulous. I also didn't use any sunscreen, any sunglasses or hats.
Cancer 08!
I didn't notice too many "hipster" ridiculous people. I did see an increase of dumb teens with girl Cali sunglasses, but, eh. I don't really care. Cliquing is sort of unavoidable for teenagers.
I also noticed how many hot girls showed up this year. Jesus.
Also:
Personally, I'm not rich, but I plan on saving enough every year to go to places like Coachella.

Whoa, whoa, whoa, hold up a minute. You propose your clothing choices to your friends before you wear them??? I don't think you should be talking shit about anyone. I wore AA gym shorts on Saturday because that's what I sleep in, they were the only shorts I had, and it was hot as hell. I didn't wake up and go "Dudes!!! Let's wear our American Apparel gym shorts today, amirite?!" Get a life, you just wish you looked as good as us. I'm sure if you could pull it off, you would, too.

I thought about it...but for some stupid reason I was reluctant to approach anyone and ask them if they were....
Saturday though, I was more focused on the fact that I thought I broke my leg earlier in the day.....I was focusing all my energy on being able to walk and not letting it ruin the festival for me.....

Yeah I've noticed that the only people complaining about hipster boys in their American Apparel shorts are pretty slobby, fat, and sans any sense of fashion whatsoever themselves. Like, come on, the AA shorts are funny as opposed to your cargo khaki shorts, JC Penney's shirt with an unfunny saying on it, and goofy ass tennis shoes.
I would love to see pictures of the people who are bitching about hipsters because 9/10 of these people are going to be ugly and unfashionable themselves.

I don't know how anyone found the time to critique the fashion style @ Coachella. I mean, however you want to rock it--go ahead. Music + Fashion + Disagreeable/Agreaable taste=timeless arguments. I was kinda happy seeing more people with IF shirts than last year. It means the company I enjoy wearing is bigger than it was a few years back.

I guess my problem with the trend is it is a rehash of something that was stupid the first time around. I understand trends and joining trends but are we completely out of ideas? Do we have to go back to the '80's which is known for bad fashion? Some orginality would be nice.

QFT. We're not trying to dress up stylish, we're just putting on clothes that we own. It's much better to dress the same way all the "indie kids/hipsters" are than to dress the same way everyone whose mom buys their clothes for them at Target do. Some originality is always welcome, but it's too damn hot out there for it. I think Sunday is the only day I stood out at all, and that wasn't even on purpose.

I mean the premise of taking a style that wasn't too remarkable and rehashing it has boggled my mind, but I dig the 80's rebirth over the rebirth of the 60's a few years back. I mean, if you're going to dress the part mind as well incorporate the "Free Love" aspect along with it...damn Flower Children.

Is this thread for real? People are really knocking these hipster indie kids for the type of clothes they wear? The "indie/hipster" scene is just like any other cultural scene driven by music ie. punk, disco, hippy, heavy metal, grunge etc etc. Majority of the people dressed like this are impressionable kids/ young adults. No matter how "independent" the music and/or people attempt/ s to be, there's always going to be some form of conformity.
There's always a trademark look that represents a scene. In this case, I guess a fedora hat and American Apparel underwear represents somewhat the "indie/Coachella" scene. For this to annoy some people is actually pretty annoying.

I'm 19 and I went to coachella for my first time. I came all the way from Virginia, and paid my entire way (cost a little less than 1000). I work my ass off to reap the rewards down the road :)
