I mean, Im certianly no expert.
Ii have no idea what kind of business they would need to do turn a profit, but this year did seem leaner on Fri and Sun attendancewise.
I had the best time Ive had at a Coachella since i started goin in 04, so here's hopin they didnt just break even, or even lose money.

I completely agree with you. I hope every Coachella in the future is as great as this one as far as the quality lineup and space to move around.

I got 24 bottles of water at WalMart for $3.88, that wouldn't get you two bottles inside Coachella. I'm pretty sure the profit off the water alone could make up for any drop in ticket sales.

Actually, while $2/bottle is obviously a big markup over the outside world, it's the best deal on water going for any sort of venue, whether it's an outdoor concert or a club or a stadium. And kudos to them on the 10:1 recycling deal as it has completely eliminated the day-2 "carpet-o-plastic" of previous years.
As for Goldenvoice losing money, I'm hardly going to cry for them. Assuming a pretty lowball estimate of 40,000 attendees/day, that's in the $4million range from ticket sales alone. Add to that vendor fees, direct concession sales, and sponsorship dollars, I think they did pretty damned well for themselves.

i didn't buy a water the whole time. 10:1 baby 10:1.
but the fucking cocktails in the vip area sure ate a whole HELLUVA lot of money out of my pocket.

Correction - I stopped a step early, that's $4million/day, so $12million over 3 days on tickets.

VIP free water, and you still chose to recycle?

I some how made it into the VIP after Hot Chip. I sat on the grass and drank my way through Kraftwerk. VIP is kind of weird but I was prepared for Portishead.

I brought in water all 3 days. Security saw it and let me keep it anyway.

yeah, they were allowing sealed water bottles in this year no problem, and small whiskey bottles too, but Im not sure they saw that one.

security was amazing this year, i really do appreciate allowing in sealed water bottles, i still bought some in the venue (5 bottles simply doesnt last)
also, the festival seems so much more efficient, tons of attention to detail, will call was well done, camping seemed to run smoothly, all around seemed to be a super professional, at least compared to last year when everything seemed rushed and everyone seemed overwhelmed...
i hope they did not loose money, this was the most perfect festival i could have ever imagined...

Yes, thanks again GV for letting us bring in sealed water bottles. It was super helpful.

in all seriousness, the festival ran PERFECTLY this year. never long waits at security...parking was i think as good as could be expected for having 90000 people parking in a one sq mile radius...and the music/atmosphere was as amazing as always.

The parking improved drastically from previous years; great job GV!

For people with good parking experiences, where did you park? And how did you get there? I want to plan accordingly for next year!

VIP is the best thing ever. I don't know how I could take a shit without it.

Lot 5. I think it was exhibitors last year... went around the back way down washington to 52nd. Its a bit of a walk (kinda in behind the sahara, gotta go all the way around) but it was quick in and quick out, with no car lineups at all.

Excellent. Thanks for the tip. I will need to remember this for next year.

Lot 6 was the best for me and my friends...the first night was a nightmare until a guy was nice enough to lead us out the easy way, ha! we parked there every night after that and never had any problems. plus the walking distance was closer than lot 5 ;)

Luckyface it's all about lot 3, the one that leads you to Jefferson. It took me 5 minutes top to get out both sat, and sunday. Friday was a different story only because we couldn't find the car, so we got stuck for about 45 minutes, plus there was a car accident.

I did this all three days this year, quick out down 52nd to Van Buren for me. That walk is a bitch, though. I'm glad I stashed a cooler full of beer in my car.

considering they've been putting on coachella for 9 years going, I think they have it down by now.
Goldenvoice isn't going out of business anytime soon.
hopefully they have enough in their coffers for *cough*Bowie*cough* next year though.

coffers cough cough...that should be a song
Parking was super easy in and out for me this year. Parked lot 5 2x and 3 once. I didn't try to leave early like the yokels trying to avoid traffic, either. Seems like you end up waiting longer when you're in a hurry.

any word on this years attendance?

agreed that the lower attendance made a HUGE difference in the quality of the festival. i mean GIGANTIC! Nothing worse than giant crowds everywhere you go. This year was my favorite since '04, partly because of the extra space, and partly because of the overall vibe. While I love bands like rage and tool, I think having bands like portishead, prince, roger waters, etc makes for a much better festival vibe for everybody.
