Coachella has always been the last weekend of April, so I don't see why they would change that for next year.

Coachella 2004 was on may 1-2
rage patton

Oh right... but with Stagecoach and all, I am betting they are trying to keep Coachella in April and Stagecoach in May.
crazzz2007
05-04-2008, 10:27 PM
but it's never been as early as april 24....also, 2005 was april 30 and may 1, so i'm not sure that coachella being in april is all that important...
the only reason i ask is b/c i want to rent a house already....to make sure we get something in la quinta, close to the fest.

perhaps GV themselves don't even know when the dates will be. I guess they have to work dates according to availability of some main acts first, city permits, etc, etc, before. but who knows really.
I just hope it'll be april 24-26. I'm pretty sure may 1-3 will conflict with school finals.
microcuts
05-04-2008, 10:54 PM
Well nothing's probably ever really set in stone, but Coachella has always been held the weekend before finals here at MSU. At least since 2004, anyway. Sounds plausible enough to assume May 1-3 will be the 2009 dates since finals will be May 4-8.

Daft Punk
Led Zeppelin
David Bowie
The Cure

05-05-2008, 07:56 AM
I kinda hope this year is an actual precedent for future Coachellas, in terms of the longer set times for the headliners, and not just an exception for a couple of established artists. You get more bang for your buck if the headliners are doing a full, rather than abridged, set. Slightly longer set times for worthy sub headliners would be great too. Some bands out there have very large bodies of work.

at lmu it was always the weekend before finals, as many people here have said... except in 2003 it was two weekends before finals. (i.e. there was one week of classes between). so that pattern isn't quite consistent.

4 days=saturation... Also, for a lot of people, this 'fest is a "weekend getaway". If you add another day, it becomes more than a weekend event.
Also, I hope it is 4/24-4/26. Because even in the wake of this recent tragedy regarding Eight Belles, the First Saturday in May is always Kentucky Derby day. I want the 2 weekends separated.

I think they should extend Stage Coach and Coachella so it's one long continous festival and then they could have the ritual of the hand over where they have the passing of the torch from the hipsters to the cowboys.
They could have a torch that is run from the sahara tent as the last electronic act plays. A group of hipsters can carry the torch out to the parking lot to meet a sea of RVs arriving with cowboys on top.
Just a thought...:)

It could be either weekend, and once the dates are locked they will let us know. Book a hotel for both and cancel one if you so wish - If you are getting a condo, just make sure the owners agree to let you have it the weekend of the festival. Most people are reasonable about this.
Dates are normally confirmed in Nov, and then the bookers get to work.

the desert sun or whatever the coachella valley paper is called seems to have a jump on this shit. I'd assume they've got an in at city hall, so that's how they get all the event dates and statistics so fast- gv has to file permits for everything, so I guess the city and then whatever paper has someone at city hall knows first

Something that isn't mentioned enough:
YES Coachella was on May 1 & 2 once BUT (!) that was when it was only two days (Sat & Sun). If it was still a two day concert and in May it would have to be on the 2nd and the 3rd... which has NEVER happened. That would make it the latest Coachella ever. Add StageCoach and rapidly rising temps in the valley and we are looking with pretty strong certainty that it will be the last weekend of April.

amyzzz
08-23-2008, 01:52 PM
Th fest has only been 3 days for 2 years anyway. They could change it up and have Coachella on the first May weekend. The only valid argument is the Stagecoach issue which could be on that first May weekend instead.

The other option makes it the earliest coachella ever. So latest by a day, or earliest by a day. Why you think one is more likely than the other defies logic.

BIG news, at least for me...my usual motel 6 is now allowing reservations. It is right off the 10 at washington, seriously the best location because it takes you the back way into the festival. $80 for thursday night, $90 for fri. and sat., and $80 for sun. the cheapest accommodations you can find this close to the festival! i booked thursday with check out monday for just under $340. that's for 2 beds, too, so 4 people in the room makes it a little over $80 each for the trip. it's also right next door to del taco for cheap late night/early morning eats.

It's all good. I was getting worried because normally they open up reservations 12 months in advance, but this time they just started accepting reservations within the last week or so. I thought they were going to try and pull what all the other places do and really jack the rates up for Coachella. I was pleasantly surprised that they didn't.

It is right off the 10 at washington, seriously the best location because it takes you the back way into the festival. $80 for thursday night, $90 for fri. and sat., and $80 for sun. the cheapest accommodations you can find this close to the festival! i booked thursday with check out monday for just under $340. that's for 2 beds, too, so 4 people in the room makes it a little over $80 each for the trip. it's also right next door to del taco for cheap late night/early morning eats.
you can go to motel6.com and it's motel #104
this is big news and thanks for the heads up! i also have been waiting and usually check once a week so im glad to hear this and just made my reservation for next year... stayed there last year when someone here gave me their reservation(god bless that person cuz i cant remember who it was but it was such a blessing) and its a perfect spot. decent lodging, good food places closeby and only a few min from festival! hellyeah!!

i think its worth the extra money. I plan on relaxing a lot in my huge comfy bed. Plus, i'm using my hilton points to pay for it. I don't stay in a hotel that is less than 3 stars...We did that in 2006 coachella and it SUCKED BIG TIME.

After reading these change of dates I decided to call around to the different hotels to get prices on those dates. the best western at 81909 Indio blvd is up to $299 a night for the weekend of the 17th, Royal Plaza Inn is at $99/night, Super 8 is at $169, and the Fantasy springs resort casino is $229. When I spoke with the guy at the the last place, he was shocked when he looked at the dates and saw there were no double rooms left - he had no idea what was going on that weekend. I also called the Travelodge in Indio on hwy 111 and she asked me to call tomorrow because her boss would be in. She then asked me - is this for coachella weekend? I replied, yes. She said - OK, you'll have to call back tomorrow, I am the manager but I have to talk to my boss because we are all locked out of reserving rooms for that weekend, we have a lot of reservations coming in from the coachella people staying here....
A lot of places seemed booked on the last weekend of April - a lot of other places refused to give me rates because it is too far in advance - and some of the places are starting to raise their rates (at least it seems that way. anyone know normal rates for mid April?). Hope this info helps.

Well now that you've said that...Last year my birthday was quite uneventful. Hung out with just one friend in the city, smoked a hookah and had a root beer float. It was cool, but not birthday material. I would've been unsatisfied, but I knew that Coachella would be in ten days, so I considered that my real birthday party.
I'm sure that even if one's birthday falls in October, one could find some justification for celebrating it at Coachella.
