I was actually thinking about this last night, and I'd give up Prince in a heartbeat for another 30-45 minutes of Portishead. And I love the motherfucker, but musically speaking I'm kinda pissed off Portishead had to be cut short.

I don't know if I was in the right state of mind to handle another 30-45 min of PH... I felt like every song was forever and too short at the same time. I rewatched their performance & am still blown away, but I don't have Prince's to compare.
BTW: you didn't vote

Only dickholes vote. I refuse to support this or any other democracy.

Fuck you, Randy. If you don't vote, why the fuck does your opinion matter? In any case... currently PH is ahead.
edit: this is more Gallup than decisive.

If you don't vote, why the fuck does your opinion matter?
I hate when people use this argument. Does that mean that the population of, say, Cuba has no meaningful opinion of the state of their government? That's absurd.
I've never voted in an election in my life. I've always been registered, but my reason for abstaining is two-fold. First, I grew up in Texas and now I live in California. Voting in either of these states is totally irrelevant. Texas is the reddest state in the union, and California is the bluest. My vote isn't going to have any impact on the decision of either of these States...but that's the cop out reason. The better one is that we've never had anyone running for any office whom I felt was worthy of my vote. I wasn't ever old enough to vote for Anne Richards, back in Texas, but I would have voted for her. Other than that? What? Arnold? Seriously? You're going to say that my voice doesn't matter in the California political debate because I refused to vote for Arnold Schwarzennager? Or because I wouldn't cast my vote for one of his opponents? Maybe you're right, had I voted for Mary Carrey, the porn star, or fucking Gary Coleman, then maybe I would have more of a reason to complain.
I also abstained from this poll, but my reason was different. Portishead AND Prince, together, participated in the greatest music-enjoying night of my life. To try and make me choose is divisive and hate-filled. This poll is evil, and I will not participate in it.

In the debacle that was the recall here, you could have voted against it. But instead you chose to abstain from voting which led to the election of Arnold Schwartzenegger. I hate how people want to believe that by not voting they are somehow affecting great change on society because they don't agree wholeheartedly with a particular candidate or bill. We have to make difficult decisions every day that we don't necessarily agree with, but know it's our best option. This primary I finally got to vote for someone who I hope will win the nomination so I can vote for them again, but to not take a personal responsibility and participate in the future of the place where you live is silly. Voting matters. It's part of the checks and balances and this jaded disinterest is the reason we end up with the same shitty leaders. If you aren't willing to buckle down and make a decision as to who best represents you out your options then everything remains stagnant and the cycle repeats itself. The circular logic used in arguments for why people don't vote is ridiculous. Why on earth would people die for the right to vote?! Why did people risk their lives to have that right if it means and meant nothing?
Cuba: Dictatorships usually don't care what the people think.
P^2 - I agree that the pairing of Portishead & Prince is amazing, and I doubt I'll make a decision, but this is more of a morbid curiosity.

You're right, I could have voted against the recall, but Grey Davis was no prize either. As far as people dying for the right to vote.. well, that argument just isn't relevant anymore. When our elections weren't constantly rigged and manipulated by fucking polls, television, and unions, the right to vote was actually pretty important. In our media saturated ignorant-ass modern society, voting isn't going to fix anything. I can only choose between two sides of the same worthless coin. This country needs a hell of a lot more than an election to right the ship.

1. Our politics and elections have a lot more accountability than they once did. Elections are still not perfect, but politics @ the turn of the 20th century were dirtier and completely rigged.
2. I am not saying that voting is the end-all/be-all of correcting the mistakes this government has made, but it is a start. I am all for grass roots orgs and student movements, but any change that comes must be two-fold. The whole point of a democracy is that every able person takes a part of the responsibility for the success or failure of its government. If the education system is lacking, start a tutoring program. If you don't like how you're taxed, start a petition (which only registered citizens can sign). There's always a way to be involved, but it has to be paired with voting. The people who make the final decisions depending on national/state/local level are supposed to represent you, and most initiatives in ca end up as a final decision to the people.

It doesn't matter for what fucking reason I choose not to vote--Democracy is about freedom of choice, and I choose not to vote. It in no way devalues my contribution to society. You're only prolonging a flawed system by which this country will be hanged.

So....Portishead for me. Loved both of them, hard to distinguish between them, but that Portishead show was in a different league than any other show I've seen.

I agree with randy i would have given up Prince for an extra 30 - 45 min of Portishead. I heard somewhere they cut out 5 songs when Prince was given the headliner spot.

While I admit, that I'm usually one of those 'If you don't vote you're a dumbass!' Even if what you said is completely true about the political landscape here in California.
But as for this post... To true. Kraftwerk->Portishead->Prince = One unforgettable night

ok, I had to vote. I thought long and hard and I decided that eventhough PH tore me apart and scattered it all over the place; Prince was able to put me back together and better than before. For that, he deserves my vote.
