View Full Version : Why didn't think of it earlier, of course this band will be at Coachella 2009

Pearl Jam
they've never played Coachella, they're working on an album, and its the kind of "established" type act that GV likes to pick.
it makes perfect sense.

I wouldn't count them in right away. They have played both Lolla and Bonnaroo, so I don't think that GV would put them on the top of the list if they have already played the other festivals in the country before doing Coachella.

They played Lolla in 07 and Bonnaroo in 08. I doubt they will play Coachella 09. But if they do, I most certainly wouldn't complain. They are a band I would love to see, but have yet to see them.

of course they won't
it wouldnt even be sloppy seconds at that point, more like thirds
this is the decade edition, we gotta think BIG

Pearl jam isn't big? I'm confused here. Also, like I said, they've NEVER done coachella. I can totally see them closing main stage Friday night.

i guess techincally theyre big, I dont count them as big, and sure they've never done coachella but its not a rare act or something that gives goosegumps like P-Head

its the kind of act they would book, im just saying. especially considering how "historic" they are (I mean they were one of the biggest bands to come out of the "grunge" scene) and the fact is that they've never played coachella. they seem like a prime target for Paulie T.
although Primus is another big, established band that has never played coachella, so that's also a possibility.

Paul Tollett booked them at the Empire Polo Fields in 93, which is why Coachella is where it is now, geographically speaking.

This is one reason I could see them being on the bill for the 10th anniversary, considering this is supposedly how GV got the idea to have Coachella at the Polo fields.

They haven't been getting something like that at both the Lolla and Roo shows? Seriously, they're going to WANT 2-3 hours and accept nothing less.

This is Paul Tollet we are talking about.
Besides, Prince technically only had an hour and 15 minutes to play. But he went and played for 2 hours, AND he started almost half an hour late to begin with.

True, but we have a precedent concerning Pearl Jam festival shows. We had no idea what kind of time frame a Prince festival show would entail.

just curious what's wrong with Pearl Jam???? for god's sake, the Red Hot Chili Peppers have played twice since 2003.....and they haven't created a good song in at least a decade....I blame Anthony Kiedis......for everything

I wouldn't feel bad for skipping pearl jam and heading back to the campsite early to grab a shower.

If they did play it would have to be Friday with two other great headliners or GV would look like they were doing a me too which they have obviously tried to avoid in the past with Coachella.

If pearl jam headlined Coach 09 i would be disappointed. Nothing against pearl jam but damn it people!! its COACHELLA 09!!!! 10 year annie!!!! GVs gotta bring out its secret weapon or something. They gotta pull out all the stop signs!! They gotta bring in names like Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, The Cure, David Bowie and have bands opening no less of the names like Beck, The Strokes, Arctic Monkeys, Daft Punk, The White Stripes, Depeche Mode idk they gotta bring somebody HUGE!!!!! Something that is gonna make the 10 year annie a weekend to remember and a weekend to make your friends back home envy you for the rest of your life. Bring in Nirvana if you have to!!!!

don't say annie ever again.
PJ is the best live act currently touring right now and I agree with Passive, a 2.5 hour set is all PJ plays, they would need it.

I very much hope that Pearl Jam isn't there next year. They were okay at Lolla last year, but nothing special, and weren't nearly as energizing or entertaining as Muse or Daft Punk were. I know everyone loves PJ (and I like them, don't get me wrong, although I've never loved them), and, judging from what people say and what I've seen on YouTube, they were likely the best live band in the world during their peak in the '90s. But even though they're not washed up yet, they're not 1995-era PJ either. Plus, who wants to hear a multitude of political rants? Vedder talked more about politics than anyone I've ever seen.

Anthony Kiedis stole my bag of cool ranch doritos once, true story.
