prince was the best act.
waters was the best show.
gogol was the craziest.
barcelona was the most fun.
hot chip was the best to dance to.
battles was the most interesting.
man man was weirdest.
stars was most impressive.
mmj was trippiest.

didn't see portishead, but to almost everyone who did, that was the most special show of the weekend.

Portishead for sure, though Kraftwerk, Prince, The Verve and Roger Waters were excellent as well.

The fact that Waters is now ahead of Prince is an atrocity. Prince was the only show that really came close to Portishead.

my vote (for Prince) just tied them

I finally voted
I cried three times during portishead.
it was the most moving musical experience of my life.
also, IMHO, the most carefully, meticulously, perfectly played set I've ever seen.
I've seen world class symphony orchestras with less co-ordination.
I loved gogol, as I always do, aphex twin was mind blowing and perspective changing, and roger waters was the most spectacular concert I've ever seen, as well as being one of the best in terms of the scale of the sound engineering (twelve fucking hung line arrarys! FUCKING TWELVE!), but portishead was just so incredibly perfect. the only way it could have possibly been better would have been if it was longer. and hey- I wouldn't have minded prince ending at three, and I don't think he would've either.

would you have gone more portishead, as previously planned, and no prince?

I don't know- it's all speculation, right? what happened happened, and it was amazing.
I think just for me personally the night could have ended happily with three hours of portishead. but prince was so... prince-like that I couldn't wish the denial of that experience on anyone.

kraftwerk was amazing, too.
the end of radioactivity was one of the most profound shared-reaction moments I've ever experienced. everyone suddenly realizing what day it was and how important that was.

I'm actually currently listening to the awesome flac bootleg (thanks again whoever made it- I can't remember who it was), and it's amazing how dancy kraftwerk was compared to their records. awesome stuff.
oh- to whoever made the bootleg- I really want to use the rip of 'the robots' in a mashup. if it's okay with you.

The fact that Waters is now ahead of Prince is an atrocity. Prince was the only show that really came close to Portishead.

Prince puts on a show, Waters puts on an experience, Portishead somehow managed to go from playing small clubs in the late 90's to damn near headlining a night a of Coachella in 2008 after taking a break for a whole lot of years.

All were impressive. I think Portishead and Waters were the top 2 of the weekend but Prince was a god damn fun time! Those were your three headliners and everyone of them lived up to the hype or exceded it.

Datarock was great, fuck the haters. :) MGMT, Black Kids and Dan Le Sac vs Scroobius Pip were also tons of fun. Best weekend evaaa.

Roger Waters. No argument, the sound, visuals, and just all around greatness of seeing a legend perform on the biggest stage on the US was the most epic of 08

Portishead wont do another show in the US until they make another album, who knows when that will be.

Makes the Coachella performance even better.

For me it's a tossup between Prince, Portishead, and The Verve. The conflict between Pendulum and the Verve killed me, same goes for Raconteurs, Aphex Twin. Sunday really sucked this year. Yeah those three were the best. Kraftwerk gets the fourth place vote. Boyz Noize was also fucking sweet.

I voted Hot Chip. But Datarock worked that crowd into a fever! So good!

I would have also voted for Midnight Juggernauts.

Kraftwerk, much as I love them, could listen to Minimum-Maximum and feel like I was there.
