I'm gonna have to go with the raconteurs, though.
Sorry Meg.

i gotta go with jack in white stripes. I really like the raconteurs but white stripes are better.

raconteurs are on npr.org right now live from 9:30 club in d.c.

the concert will also be available via podcast later...

I think it's tough to compare so early on; the White Stripes have so many more albums than the Raconteurs.

nice, they played broken boy soldier tonight...

nice, they played broken boy soldier tonight...

Gee, only took them a month to play the only fucking song where the frequencies of the guitar riff actually manages to drown out the parts of Jack's vocals that call to mind a roomful of small kittens screaming for help as giant pitbulls rape the fuck out of them.

the white stripes

easily

thelastgreatman
05-28-2008, 04:37 AM
It is the Stripes, I suppose. They at least have four good songs, which beats the Raconteurs by a couple.

they have way more than 4 good songs R.

I'll take MGMT unless Jack decides to start making something like Dead Leaves or Seven Nation again, thanks. He can stuff that ringing on my doorbell shit up his completely untalented vocalist ass. Him and Billy Corgan should go hang out in the level of hell reserved for potentially great songwriters who insisted on being their own frontmen despite possessing voices like nails on chalkboard.

JSam67
05-28-2008, 05:19 AM
What the fuck, why you gotta rip on JW and Billy in the same post? And why can't you enjoy The Raconteurs, dammit? It's easily as frustrating as Salah not liking MGMT. Only The Raconteurs have one of the greatest breathing guitarists and (largely overlooked) a fucking phenomenal drummer in Patrick Keeler. Neither Billy nor Jack have great singing voices, it's an acquired taste...or not.

Btw, I voted Raconteurs. Stripes have a better body of work, but in 2 albums (and incredible live shows), The Raconteurs have surpassed them. I think Raconteurs and MMJ are the 2 best relevant American rock bands right now.

Listen to Consolers again yesterday--sorry, it's nothing special.

JSam67
05-28-2008, 05:27 AM
You have cheated yourself by not seeing them live. You would have felt exactly the same way you did from MMJ. I liked Consolers...a lot...but it's so much better live. It's up there with Oracular and Third. Actually, Third might be in a class by itself.

thelastgreatman
05-28-2008, 06:18 AM
Homie, let it go. Jack gives me oggida. Screechy motherfucker. And Consolers doesn't exactly have the kind of sound that made MMJ translate so spectacularly live, sorry, don't see it being analagous.

HEADSTRUCK

I'll take MGMT .
haha...you would take the only group that got a bad review(that i read in the la times) from coachella....

i took the raconteurs for the fact jack has a band now.....

thelastgreatman
05-28-2008, 06:45 AM
Their performance was kinda mediocre there, sound sucked, dude can't sing. The album is vastly preferable to either of the Raconteurs albums as far as I'm concerned, despite its simplicity and gimmickery.

HEADSTRUCK
05-28-2008, 06:47 AM
so you would rather see a band that has a shitty live show then see one of the greatest live preformers of our time?

thelastgreatman
05-28-2008, 07:04 AM
I don't believe the question was specifically pertaining to seeing them in concert. But to answer your question, I'd like to see MGMT again with an ideal PA situation. The sound at The Echo was vastly better than Coach. Them having the resonance on all their instruments and mics is probably a big part of the problem, but the fucking sound system in the Mojave was squealing something terrible.

Why would anyone care about what the L.A. Times thought about a band? MGMT were actually quite great at Coachella. Saw them the week prior and they sucked ass and that was partly a sound issue. Despite what some critic says they had the entire fucking tent jumping up and down by the end of the set. Total fun.

Raconteurs are hit and miss IMO. I loved Broken Boy and really am bored with Consolers. I'll take the White Stripes FTW!

Randy, I found the sound for MGMT at Coachella to actually be quite great. In fact the other people I was with thought it was good too but it just goes to show you differing opinions. The week prior they sounded like total shit in the middle of an outdoor mall but I thought the sound at Coachella did them justice. lol.

At least MGMT would play their best song if they had one that was so blatantly superior to the rest of their mediocre catalog, but they don't. They have like four songs that are all equally boss and then the rest are sorta boss. And frankly I don't see where the fuck Jack gets credit for such brilliant guitar work. You're telling me Steady As She Goes is particularly more impressive than any of MGMT's shit? All sounds like simple pop chords.

Hard choice. I voted for The Raconteurs. I have seen them twice and the second time was fuckin’ great! I have never seen the Stripes so maybe I shouldn't have voted. : )

i talked to a few kids that were very excited(before) then not so much (after). i have seen The Raconteurs a few times and they have been more then solid everytime. I guess i just demand a band to be good live EVERYTIME i see them and not here and there.

Did you hear them play steady as she goes? Thats the great thing about them they CHANGED up songs to improve them. Changing their songs and having jack smash out solos are what would make him a great guitar player. they dont just play the studio album like most of the bands these days.

Sorry, but the dude is brutally overrated as a guitarist. And don't bring up solos, I fucking hate guitar solos.

MGMT is terrible

Jack White has massive guitar chops. His phrasing is brilliant, as is his tone.

White Stripes over Raconteurs, easily. One is groundbreaking, and the other is solid top-40 rock.

I do love icky thump though, the title track, you dont know what love is, 300 MPH..., conquest, little cream soda (oh well! oh well!), fucking rag and bone and i'm slowly turning into you

The White Stripes blow the Racs out of the water. Although Jack White's songwriting has gone to shit judging by the last two Stripes records. If you'd cut the fat out and combined them into one, then you'd have an OK album. His earlier shit fucking kills though. Everything up until after Elephant. Good songwriting, rhythm, killer voice. They were one of the best live bands on the planet when I saw them. I do hate it though when people say he is a spectacular guitarist. He's good, but most of the time he doesn't know what he's doing on the guitar technically. Especially now that he doesn't put effort into his singing or guitar playing like he used to. I read an NME show review where they said he busted out a Jimi Hendrix-esque solo and were basically blowing him. Shit's ridiculous. He was good at a certain point, but I think he lost it somewhat.

How can you say he's lost anything? I don't know how anyone who has seen this man fuck his guitar on stage can have the opinion that he isn't amazing. I've seen him twice in the past 3 years and each time his performance was one of the most memorable of each festival.

05-28-2008, 11:58 PM
I've said it before and I'll say it again. Get Behind Me Satan is a great album and the only reason why its judged so harshly is because its the follow up to Elephant and people were expecting another guitar heavy album and instead got a bunch of country tinged piano ballads.

those white stripes videos are awesome, that Jack White is gone in a way, they were still really Detroit-like, Jack still smoked, he was just a different person back in 01

and fuck yeah, i love my under blackpool lights dvd

p.s.- i tried listening to the new coldplay song, its ALRIGHT, but its not even as catchy as their other lead singles, at the very least the songs were catchy as hell
