Alright Conspiracy Theorists, is it within our reach to trigger localized earthquakes ?
I know that it is far-fetched and technologically improbable, but it sure would make for an effective alternative to Nuclear Weapons. This ability would make for a great advantage, avoiding radioactive fallout , perfect plausible deniability and with the possibility for great PR as the responsible country sends relief/aid .
While living in Northern California for most of my life I have experienced numerous earthquakes (I was in 5 grade for the Loma Prieta quake). I have even had the unique experience of watching an earthquake do its thing while onboard a ship moored up to a pier in Costa Rica.
I have had this theory forever, much earlier than that Mel Gibson film (Conspiracy Theory) and the reason why I bring it up now is in the last couple of days I have experienced 2 minor earthquakes (3.9 and 3.5, basically couch shakers) and I have always wanted to know what people's opinion on the matter was.

Maybe nukes are how it's being done:

I should have read the post first...
I think we could definitely trigger seismic activity but it would be foolish to think it could be controlled or localized. If that were the case we would have already been conducting controlled quakes to avoid massive earthquakes by taking pressure off of fault lines.

Apparently listening to Mel Gibson might not be the best thing. Certainly in regards to race relations anyway...
And some quakes in the Puget Sound area? I missed this.

Didn't they do one in "Ocean's 13"? Or I think they just made people believe it was one.
I meeeean, I never saw "Ocean's 13" :-/

They drilled into the support beams underground to create an earthquake effect on the casino building.

With the obsiety rates rising, so are earthquakes... Look at what we have done

A microearthquake occurred at 3:57:20 AM (PDT) on Monday, March 23, 2009.
The magnitude 1.3 event occurred 11 km (7 miles) NNE of Cayucos, CA.
The hypocentral depth is 5 km ( 3 miles).
Okay, so who's the smartass that thought it would be funny to trigger this when I was stoned and thinking about going to bed? Even if it was a "micro-earthquake," I'm still sitting here wondering if it's mother is on her way.(Instant buzzkill!):rolleyes

You wouldn't feel a 1.3...no matter how stoned you are.
You may have felt some of the bigger ones happening out by the Salton Sea though...
