Ok...since the this is completely out of the realm of reality (The last was one)..I thought I'd go one step further and "import" bands from certain time lines..say The Who circa 1967? Who would you pick? (Last one the poll didn't post)

off that list (which is full of awesome shows) I'd go with the Velvets, but I'd prefer to have seen them in Plastic exploding Inevitable mode. Show of all time to have seen would have been the Can free show in Koln.

What sucks is the poll only allows 10 options, but i had many more bands in mind..Rolling Stones (Circa Exile on Main St), Pink Floyd (Circa Dark side of the moon), Kraftwerk (Circa 1977)...

I would have liked to have seen the Stones right before Brian Jones left the group. What a fertile period.

I have to say, that Beatles show would most likely have been a bit underwhelming. So much of that was undoable on stage at the time that they would have had some real problems. Plus, at that point it was dangerous for them to even go on stage, with how crazy the fans were.

Still no Buckley on the damn poll list... You should have an OTHER option instead of Genesis... I mean, come on.

Have you seen footage of Genesis with Peter? It was incredible and it was the only time Genesis actually was any good...Yes, I know Jeff Buckley was great but that will be on a different poll...

My vote's for Genesis, however...

- Bad Brains circa H.R.?
- Black Flag circa Henry Rollins-with-hair?

1 The Who, circa "Live at Leeds"
2 Minutemen, circa "Double Nickels"
3 Springsteen/E Street Band, circa Hammersmith '75

from the choices here, I voted for Barrett-era Floyd

The Clash anyone??? And they could easily replace the Pistols since they would have a lot more material to work with..

Very suprised you didnt put the Smiths but thats good, at least nobody is begging that much for that...

bmack86

The Clash would have been awesome. I wish I would have been alive to have seen them. The Smiths would have been great too. Whenever I think about this, I realize how much I've missed, but I also think about how much I've seen that people 20 years down the road will want to see.

James Brown and the J.B.s Circa 1974. Although I have seen the J.B.s before. Fela Kuti and Ginger Baker would be cool. Beethoven preforming Eroica. Any Stax revue from the late 60's, Mad Lads, Sam & Dave, Booker T and The M.Gs, William Bell, Rufus Thomas, The Mar-keys. Weldon Irvine in the 70's. Weldon Irvine played keyboard for Mos Def at Coachella in 01. Thats another good trivia question. There really so many.

That's what I was thinking. What does the #2 have to do with anything?

Oh, and in that case, I would definitely have to poop David Bowie

Eugene Chadbourne and Toshnori Kondo did some pretty crazy avant garde shows in the early 80's.

Goddamnit Jeff, there's so many good wrenches you threw into the program here. I would have loved to have seen Fela Kuti in the 70s. The JBs in the late 60s would have been amazing. I haven't been to an amazing soul or funk show, and I'm still waiting for one.

I bet that many of the mid to late 60s Coltrane shows would have been amazing. I would have liked to have seen some of the cutting sessions with Diz and Bird. those would have been amazing. Also, Ornette when he was truly breaking ground.

Miles Davis "Kind Of Blue" is the one you should start with. You have likley heard everything off it anyways. Then "Giant Steps" by John Coltrane. Both those albums are used a lot in tv and film. You have heard them and probably don't even know it. Also "Take Five" by Dave Brubeck gets used alot on TV as well as "A Night In Tunisia" by Dizzy Gillespie. You would be suprised how much about jazz you unconsciously know. You have probably heard "So What" by Miles Davis a million times you just don't know it by name.

Yeah, I was listening to NPR on Saturday--they were doing some bio thing on Miles Davis-- and all the commentators/guests were gushing over Kind of Blue. My husband has Bitch's Brew, but I don't know if I really like it. At least not now. The NPR people also said chances are, you've probably already heard a lot of music from Kind of Blue. I was wondering if you would recommend that.

Bitch's Brew is from Miles fusion era. Its a great album as well as "Water Babies" and my personal favorite Miles Fusion Album "On The Corner".

Whoever doesn't say David Bowie as Ziggy Stardust should just up and kill themselves. If it wasn't for Bowie, most of the bands that play Coachella every year would not exist!!!

Well the thought of Bowie as Ziggy brings back some amazing early concert going memories. Saw him at King Georges Hall, Blackburn 2nd row, centre stage on the same tour he quit.

What you've got remember is that then all you knew other than the album tracks was weekly concert reports from NME, it once was good, and the odd appearance on Top of the Pops, so both the excitement and the legend grew week by week until at last the show came to your town.

I can still picture Bowie on stage arms outstreched waiting to have his kimono pulled off at the start of the show, to me then he looked like some strange exotic alien being.

Wow what a show

I still can't figure out the relationship between the question -- "If you could #2" -- and the choices. What are people voting on? Their second favorite bands? Who they would put on the second line of the Coachella poster in their dream lineup?
