this is your personal choice, who would u rather see live?
WILCO
vs
RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE
I've already seen rage twice, so I'm going to have to go towards Wilco simply because I've never seen them and they are suppose to be amazing live as well. Yours?

I'm not too familar with Wilco but I think they are a jam band. I know they play the jam fests. And I cant seem to figure out if they sound more like Rod Stewart or Bob Dylan. : /
Anyways they're complete opposites, thats for sure.
Rage should be fun because they really haven't played up there in a while and the crowd should be pumped.

when you are not too familiar with a band you should try not to make generalizations about them, especially incorrect ones.

The live version sounds a little differnt because it is only the lead singer. Go to their myspace and listen to the recorded version and tell me that this song doesn't sound like Maggie May. http://www.myspace.com/wilco

I saw Rage twice last year and unless there is new material, I'd pass on them for a while. Wilco were one of the most enjoyable shows I saw last year. I'd go to see them anytime, anywhere.

That's ridiculous, Oustidelands isn't a jam fest. Fuck, Bonnaroo isn't even a jam fest anymore. lol.
Wilco is a jam band now? You people are out of control. I am choosing Wilco. I saw Rage several times and it's rarely an enjoyable experience. The coachella gig was the most amusing but really, they need a new schtick. I give them one thing though. They are a hype machine and while i'm watching Wilco I will be wondering if i'm missing out on some antics. Straight ahead music though, it's Wilco hands down. Nels Clyne is probably my favorite guitarist. I can watch that guy play for hours on end and will. I last saw Wilco night 1 of the Winter Residency and it was rocktastic. Wilco w/Calexico in phoenix was one of the best concerts I have ever seen period. However, I have seen dispapointing Wilco sets such as Coachella 05', a set comprised of slow jamz and little stage presence, very disapointing especially in contrast to their gig at Street Scene a couple years before when they played what I would call a good "festival" set. They were also a bit underwhelming when I saw them back in Chicago the night before Holloween in 2006. They can be hit or miss but when they are on they are fucking on.
I honestly believe if you have seen Rage then the set list is not going to be anything amazing.

In otherwords when they are jammin' they are jammin'.
I didn't mean to offend anyone with my loose assumption. Just trying to help a brother out by saying they are completly differnt from RATM. Anyways what would you classify them as?
Plus Outsidelands, on Sunday, will most definitely be jammy. Fuckin WSP in Golden Gate Park, come on.

Jam Rock = Phish, Jack Johnson, Dave Matthews
Wilco is about as straight ahead rock as I can think of but if we want to disect we can say alt rock or alt country. Their roots were quite obviously alt country. I was always partial to calling them adult contemporary. They have always been rock though, the variations have changed from album to album, just never considered them a jam band in any way.

jack johnson is not jam rock.
he's a dude, not a band, and he therefore by definition does not jam.
it's like people referring to aphex twin as "they"

Jack Johnson the dude always has "friends" that come jam with him. He's a jammer.

you can't hold no groove if you ain't got no pocket
and where the fuck are the groove-sized pockets on jack johnson's quiksilver board shorts?
exactly.
also, people who wear flip flops don't JAM. they twiddle.
