when are we supposed to sleep? my life has been ruled by insomnia for 15 years! I get a lot of important things done in the middle of the night

I used to have wicked insomnia. There was a drain pipe near my bed when I was younger that would keep me up if it were raining. I'd go out there and stuff a drain pipe in it so it wouldn't keep me up. I remember college nights laying in my dorm room staring up at the ceiling as the dawn broke and then walking in a blur to my classes.
Now...I can't stay awake for longer than 5 minutes once I lay down and close my eyes. I actually have a problem staying awake at work! I've gone from one extreme to the other.
So, there you have it.

Less than 3 hours to go here, and i'm having my first alcohol free night in on a new year for over 20 years due to a bad case of stomach flu.

I hate sleeping over 8 hours. Don't you feel like your brain is rotting when you wake up from a long ass sleep? I think the longest I've slept was like 20 hours.

My housemate has had insomnia the last few nights. It creeps me out because I'll go downstairs at 4:30am to get ready for work and he'll be laying on the couch and I think he's sleeping but then he starts talking to me.

The song "The Softest Voice" by Animal Collective (off of Sung Tongs) has put me to sleep many many nights. I highly reccomend it.

yup. here I am. I overslept several times last week, by as much as two hours. I was hoping to correct that this week. it's easy to get away with over the holidays when everybody else is gone. shit.
