Here's the deal, folks. I'm creating a Secret Santa Thread for whoever wants to participate. TomAZ has graciously accepted the responsibility of randomly assigning people to each other so you will not know who your gift-giver is until your gift arrives. Please send an email to coachellasanta@hotmail.com with your name and address, and fill out and POST the questionnaire below. The questionnaire is for your Secret Santa to look at, so you will need to POST YOUR ANSWERS HERE. When you receive your assigned person from Tom, then just check the message board for what that person likes and buy a gift accordingly.
Gift price range will be from $10-20, and try to be creative and match that person's personality if at all possible.

I am posting this early so you will have time to answer the questionnaire and buy and ship the gifts before Christmas. Please remember to add your name/username somewhere inside or on the package before you ship it. Also, try to mail the gift out no later than December 1st because shipping takes longer during the holiday season. The deadline to email your address to Tom (coachellasanta@hotmail.com) is November 10th and the deadline to post your questionnaire answers is November 15th.

Please answer the questions below if you want to participate:

1) What is your favorite color?

2) What is your T-shirt size?

3) What is your favorite pattern? (houndstooth, paisley, stripes, etc)

4) If you would like to receive band merchandise, which band would you choose? (remember, if you have a lot of merchandise from a particular band, you could get a duplicate, so choose wisely)

5) What is your favorite restaurant?

6) What is your favorite candy and/or snack food?

7) Is there a certain, specific item you would like to request?

8) If you could use one word to describe yourself, what would that be?

Thank you for participating and enjoy.

edited: pushed the deadline dates out as per Tom's request. Sorry, Tom.

Is this a pyramid scheme?

I pushed the dates out Tom.

GPS, we did this back in 2006 and it worked pretty well I think. Except for caco.

marooko
10-24-2008, 08:52 AM
what happened with caco?

removed due to stupidity.

what if someone gets someone they dont like, will we trust them to go through with this positively?

allyjoy

If I get someone I dont like, they get a lump of coal. That's what Santa would give them. It's fair. :)

what happened with caco?

what if there is an odd number of people?

what if someone gets someone they dont like, will we trust them to go through with this positively?

the odd number shouldn't matter. in a secret santa, the two people do not have to buy for each other, but rather you buy for someone random in the pool of people. so for example, you could be buying for me, but i could be buying for amy.

and i'm in! i'll send an e-mail.

I think Caco either sent the present really, really late or never sent it.

You're confusing me with the odd number of people thing--think of this as a circle of people all giving something to someone. Doesn't everyone get something, or am I wrong? ugh. Tom is not matching people together by 2's--you won't give a present to the same person who gives YOU a present.

If someone thinks s/he cannot give a present to someone on the board or is afraid to get what someone else might get them, don't sign up for this. Simple as that. I, for one, hope that anyone signing up for this will be mature enough to follow through with this and get a decent present for someone.

captncrzy

1) What is your favorite color?

Red or purple

2) What is your T-shirt size?

Women’s XL…moo. I like funny tshirts-but womens tshirts, not mens. Mens tshirts don't have boobie room.

3) What is your favorite pattern? (houndstooth, paisley, stripes, etc)

I hate stripes. Anything else is fine.

4) If you would like to receive band merchandise, which band would you choose? (remember, if you have a lot of merchandise from a particular band, you could get a duplicate, so choose wisely)

Depeche Mode. I have every DM musical recording in the world, except for Playing the Angel, which I broke and haven't replaced.

I also like t-shirt hell t-shirts

5) What is your favorite restaurant?

That’s a tough one; I’ll eat anywhere just about. And have. I hate chain restaurants though.

6) What is your favorite candy and/or snack food?

I’m off sugar right now.

7) Is there a certain, specific item you would like to request?

No. I like things that are funny or smell good.

8) If you could use one word to describe yourself, what would that be?

Stripes are ok but usually patternless

4) If you would like to receive band merchandise, which band would you choose? (remember, if you have a lot of merchandise from a particular band, you could get a duplicate, so choose wisely)

Haha, There are tons but don't bother with CDs or Vinyl because I am freakin anal about the music I am into and a rabid collector.

The Prodigy, Ladytron, Lily Allen, Siouxsie & The Banshees, Regina Spektor, Portishead, Daft Punk
High Contrast, Logistics, Nu:Tone, The Chemical Brothers

5) What is your favorite restaurant?

My favorite foods are Sushi and Ethiopian. Chain wise I guess In N Out if you're in Cali, Astroburger too!

6) What is your favorite candy and/or snack food?

I don't like hard candy at all, chocolate is good, nuts are good...

7) Is there a certain, specific item you would like to request?

I like artsy craftsy stuff, so stuff like magazine/sticker/rave flyer collages are cool, old framed Vinyl or vintage second hand t-shirts from a listed band, I could use a neat spice rack for my kitchen if you're good at or enjoy building things.

Seriously you could go out and stock up on a bunch of free rave flyers, go get a cool frame from a garage sale and make a neat collage and I would love it.

So, being well behaved isn't a requirement? (Shit, I hope not or I'll be getting coal!) 1) What is your favorite color? *Black or Candy Apple Red< (I know...WTF?)

2) What is your T-shirt size? *Small-Med.

3) What is your favorite pattern? (houndstooth, paisley, stripes, etc) *Tropical/Hawaiian

4) If you would like to receive band merchandise, which band would you choose? (remember, if you have a lot of merchandise from a particular band, you could get a duplicate, so choose wisely) *Coachella Paraphenalia/Merch. or *Cd mixes of Recommended Dance/House (Think Daft Punk/Prodigy/Danny Tenaglia) I also get into reading *Band/ Artist Auto/Biographies

5) What is your favorite restaurant? *Outback.

6) What is your favorite candy and/or snack food? Can a *Good Sticky Bud be considered a candy-like treat?

7) Is there a certain, specific item you would like to request? Not really, unless of course you come across an inexpensive *Pyramid with 2 Robots

8) If you could use one word to describe yourself, what would that be? *YoungAtHeart*(Hey, if you say it fast, it sounds like one word, dammit!)

1) What is your favorite color?

I like bright colors like orange, lime green, yellow, bright red, turquoise blue, cobalt blue and plum. So rainbow colors I guess.

2) What is your T-shirt size?

Small

3) What is your favorite pattern? (houndstooth, paisley, stripes, etc)

horizontal stripes

4) If you would like to receive band merchandise, which band would you choose? (remember, if you have a lot of merchandise from a particular band, you could get a duplicate, so choose wisely)

Radiohead. I have all their albums (and live album) but no singles. Any RH shirts, stickers, or "badges" are always good. Shirts-wise, I also like The Cardigans, DCFC, Portishead, Muse, AIR, Bjork, Massive Attack, Smiths, Joy Division, etc etc

5) What is your favorite restaurant?

Pei Wei's, Quizno's, Whataburger are good for gift cards

6) What is your favorite candy and/or snack food?

When I was in NYC, we got these amazing chocolate chip cookies that you can order from tatesbakeshoponline.com (that might be over the limit though). We also had some amazing red raspberry bottled soda, but I can't remember the name of it--any brand will do.

I'm a candy fiend, so any godiva chocolate, mike and ike's, sour patch kids, blue raspberry bottles (found in bulk at Fuzziwig's mall stores), jelly bellies, starburst, etc

7) Is there a certain, specific item you would like to request?

I have a new female shih tzu puppy, so if you're not too embarrassed to get a Small sized girly dog outfit....

I also like stupid light-up stuff, like glow sticks and things with blinky lights, some of which can be found at Oriental Trading Company

We just bought this from Disneyland, and it's freakin AWESOME. (I wouldn't mind another)

1) What is your favorite color?

Black.

2) What is your T-shirt size?

Apparently only XL now. Yay for me.

3) What is your favorite pattern? (houndstooth, paisley, stripes, etc)

I was going to try and be funny by saying argyle, but bmack already beat me to it. Otherwise, I don't really care about patterns.

4) If you would like to receive band merchandise, which band would you choose? (remember, if you have a lot of merchandise from a particular band, you could get a duplicate, so choose wisely)

I would say Nirvana but the only thing I'm really missing are the DVDs for Live! Tonight! Sold Out! and MTV Unplugged. I would say Radiohead but their shirts fit me kinda small (even if I get XL or 2XL). So instead let's go with Portishead, Fiona Apple, and the Velvet Underground.

5) What is your favorite restaurant?

Tortilla Jo's in Anaheim. (Read the Disneyland thread.)

6) What is your favorite candy and/or snack food?

When I'm being responsible, either cottage cheese or edamame. When I'm not, cheesecake.

7) Is there a certain, specific item you would like to request?

This one black Velvet Underground shirt that's got the Andy Warhol banana on it. The only time I've ever seen it was at a lesbian bar back in May '06.

8) If you could use one word to describe yourself, what would that be?

Intense. (Not so applicable when having drinks at a bar, but in general this is the case.)

My Bloody Valentine, Cocteau Twins, Beck, Goldfrapp, LCD Soundsystem, Simian Mobile Disco

5) What is your favorite restaurant?
They’re all my favorite

6) What is your favorite candy and/or snack food?
Everything and anything

7) Is there a certain, specific item you would like to request?

McD's is one of my favorites, but not my true favorite. I was thinking more of what would make an easy secret santa gift. I have a major weakness for Happy Meals.

That leaves me with only afew options you know...(A) Showup on their doorstep Xmas morning wearing only a big red bow and tinsel. (B) Drop by on Xmas Eve to tap dance on their rooftop while I yell, "On Dasher, on Donner, on Dancer, and Vixen!" (C) Better yet, if they by chance have a chimney, wouldn't that be the shit as they're laying out the milk and cookies before bedtime, that I come sliding down that chimney right into the middle of their livingroom? I'm pretty much guessing that after reading this post, everybody is gonna doublecheck to make sure they followed the rules, huh? (Problem solved without blowing my Secret Santa!) So let's say someone requested merch from a band. How do people feel about "vintage" stuff ie second hand shirts from ebay listed in good condition?

Personally, anything would be awesome. But if it were a vintage shirt that isn't sold anymore, that would just be out of control. For example, there is a rage shirt i had that an ex stole(bitch), it had a guy in a suit, his head was the "e" from rage and it said "w have determined that your whole system sucks." saw it when i bought it, havent seen it since.

Vintage shirts are great. Behind each shirt is a story. What would be cool would be to send a shirt or something that you already own & send the story of it too. I don't think we are restricted to brand new things - just things with some value. Note: I can't send a vintage shirt, because mine all have armpit stains. Ha!

I should have asked for a gift card. You young people need to respect your elders.

In my hometown in Texas there was this coffee shop that made amazing Expresso milkshakes. I have yet to find one that rivaled it. Is it too late to add special coffee to my wishlist? And an Expresso milkshake sounds greeeaaattt! (Of course, the expresso flavored Vodka that captncrzy mentioned in the drunk thread sounded pretty interesting...until SomewhatDamaged tried to caffienate himself with it one evening!) LOL

http://www.digitalchoke.com/paulshow/pix/deadcard.png So...as one of the elders here, and the fact that there is a spending limit on our gifts, can I safely assume that whomever got me will be able to think in terms of a sand pail and shovel instead?
P.S. Don't forget the rose!

RE: Vintage Shirts: I think it depends on the overall condition of the shirt. Obvious, yet, but no pit stains, holes, or crackled logos...Yeahhh.

To whomever got me, I forgot to post that I am gay. I just wanted to clarify that.

If I were your secret santa, I'd hire a male stripper, wrap him in a box filled with rainbow glitter and trigger the box to play Cher when it opened.

Alas, I am not blessed enough to make this dream a reality :(

You wouldn't be talking about Insomnia, would you? ;)

Oh, and in answer to your previous question about vintage stuff, vintage is awesome. :)

It's the thought that counts. And that was very thoughtful!

Does it remove the hassle of dividing your turkey into equal 7lb pieces first, or??? This had me baffled earlier. I thought you had a 28lb turkey for $10, and had to wonder how you were gonna fit it in the oven, fryer, broiler, or BBQ...Then I wondered for that price and size, what was wrong with it...

geez i just woke up .... i have to be in better control of me to make it a 100 years :) so i have a 18 lb turkey i want to cook today, but i want to cut it into quarters .... i need 4 different receipes .... anyone got a killer ideas ... cr**** Okay, so let me get this straight...The turkey lost 10lbs overnite? (Kidding. I finally figured your original post out! LOL And, I'm just gonna pretend I didn't see the 100 year reference...) Anyway...4 different recipes? Fried, BBQ'd, Oven baked, Underground Pit. Killer ideas? Wait...

Well, first, you could torment it by chasing it around the barnyard until it drops...Or, try putting the stuffing in while it's still alive, but pack it tightly...Then feed it alot of corn which will incite the explosion later, thus saving you the time of dividing it into those 4 parts. Uh, would you happen to have a turkey costume laying around anywhere? You could use that to intice the turkey into your lair, and then chop it's head off... Just throwing in afew killer ideas, my friend!
