She has her moments. I think she can act fine & she fills her role well. There are definately others that outshine her in the show, but I actually think everyone in the show does a pretty good job. They've built a fun community of characters. Tara & Lafayette are my favorites.

Isn't part of the show that it's supposed to be camp and the acting is supposed to be bad? I mean, thematically vampires + sex + white trash south sort of automatically adds up to camp.

Entourage had the potential to turn into something good this season. It would have been a better show to see "Vince" struggle. Instead, he's a complete asshole, turning down million dollar modeling jobs. I have no sympathy for this idiot.
And now the show is back to supermodels with their own private jets.
Crash and burn, Entourage.

Jerm05

I personally like the supermodel plot lines...but what I am pissed about is his reaction to ari's promotion. he was selfish and only thought about how it impacted him. Geez..the first thing on Ari's mind at all times what what his new job could do for vince..very lame on vince's part.

I finally saw an episode of this (I believe it was the last new one). It's not bad, but its not great. It's really kinda silly and thats where the entertainment comes from. I wanna try some vampire blood so badly and please tell me you guys laugh everytime "Bill the Vampire" calls out to SOOKE.

"i am not human, SOOKE!"

What really makes my brain itch is the fact that Alan Ball created this. How did he go from 6 Feet Under to a soap opera with vampires (thats exactly what it is, a soap opera)

suprefan

I expected it to be a vampire show but done the way 6 feet under was. dark, funny, subtle, in your face, ironic, symbolic etc.

once you get passed all that though, like you said, it IS fun, and omg SOOKE. we just kept saying her name overandoveragain, SOOKE

I liked that black girl and her bother, their mom is one crazy bitch. I wish I still had HBO so I can keep up with the show although realistically I dont see it lasting

Yeah that's the girl from Cloverfield (Lizzy Caplan) - I heart her very much - her and her bewbs.

http://www.blackbookmag.com/ee/images/uploads/pf_main_lizzy25.jpg

I kinda dig this show. Very campy, my wife says the books are pretty good too (Charlene Harris) and the show doesn't change too much to make anything a distraction from the the basic plotline.

In fact HBO on Sunday is pretty fun:

True Blood
Entourage

yes it's soapy but i can see a lot of future potential (i havent read the books) on where this can go. Tara does a great ACOA & Lafayette is one of the funniest characters in the show..... pulls its hot

Well, if Alan Ball created something similar and unique as Six Feet Under, you would all probably complain of redundancy. It is with this corny appeal that True Blood works. All the previous vampire shows have been dark and dreary relying heavily on the Gothic meets today's world vibe. If you've read the series, then you can see just how corny it is and well, it fits. There is something appealing to the lousy acting as if the development relies on the crass acting methods. Bringing out the werewolf element in last night's episode was saweeetttt though.

KungFuJoe
10-27-2008, 03:39 PM
did they show a werewolf? did i miss it? i think Sam is more than that....

also, Stephen Root cameo was wonderfully repulsive and i like how Jason & Lizzy Caplan's characters are becoming like the trashy couple from the first episode.

I thought Entourage was going to jump the shark last night (or should i say smoke?) Glad they pulled it back together in the second half.

Hopeless Semantic
10-27-2008, 03:42 PM
No. They eluded to Sam's lycan-esque way...I think Taryn is the one with the biggest demons and if they play the book accordingly...

Entourage has really been stellar for me this season. I like the fact that Ari gave up a dreamjob to still maintain his roots...he is human after all.

I like the line ari said to his assistant...you have alot of Jew hatred for a Chinaman

Hopeless Semantic

People had accosted Sam for running naked through the woods. This is the initial movement towards introducing the werewolf element to the show. Also, they have Sookie's secret yet to induce...

there is no way those hippy chick's boobs were real. hot, but i'd like someone to verify that for me, lol.

and i'm still enjoying the show, but the camp thing is running thin with me. camp + vampires is almost as prevalent as dark + angst vampires. think buffy. i'd also like to see someone dress anna in something that doesn't look like it was thrown together out of a donations bin of thin cotton mervyns wear as well.

I haven't read the books, but heard from those who have that Sam is not a werewolf, but a shape shifter. He has transformed himself into his dog a few times thru the season already, but we just don't know it yet no? I don't know Sookie's secrt, but would like to be suprised with that one.

re: entourage

i thought it was about not selling it and being your own boss? i think the whole radiohead stuff last week was cheesy, but i'm glad ari stuck to being ari. it would have been a complete corporate makeover for ari, in which he ulitmately would have fucked up. i think he made the right choice, and it didn't really have to do with vince's feelings, but more the way ari likes to work. of course he had to make sure his #1 client was protected through the whole thing, but i thought it was more about calling the shots than just "making it".

I'm a reluctant fan of the show. It has just enough to keep me interested. One thing I'm glad to see is that they've toned down the "vampires = homosexuals" allegory. It's a nifty idea to play around with, but in the first few episodes it was so heavy-handed I expected the characters to nudge each other and wink whenever they said something loaded with symbolism.

I got into this with Ally today, and I think Ari was gun ho about the job until he talked to Vince. The reaction was not what he was looking for and I think he felt that he was Vince behind. Although the being your own boss plays into it, he still has a partner who bosses him around. I think his wife knew which way he was leaning and gave him the push in that direction.

see, i think he was more just initially excited. wow, someone wants to give me a ton of power and they're willing to pay a lot of money for it. but once he thought about it, i think a number of things showed it just wasn't for him. i'm sure vince's lack of enthusiasm helped push ari into saying no, but ari is not the type of person to make decisions based on what someone else wants. ultimately, i think ari enjoys being his own player in the game rather than someone's expensive pawn.

I agree that Ari is not the type of person to make decisions based on what someone else wants, and that is why it bugged me. He seems to have a huge man crush on Vince and will do anything for the guy, like going into the desert and taking shrooms(which was just plain awesome).

1. it's gung ho
2. Ari originally wasn't going to go on the trip but changed his mind in the middle of the episode
3. at the end of last week's episode, Vince tells Ari to do what he needs to do
4. Vince and Ari don't speak again until the end of this week's episode which means Vince is not an active influence. Ari didn't even return his phone calls.
5. Not to mention that when he gets into with what's her face, after already making the decision not to take the job, he says he will take it to screw her.

Blink is right about Buffy being a much better tv show than it was a movie. It was also a much better tv show than almost every other tv show ever made. That movie is fucking hilarious, Blink, you wobbly cocksucker. Just because the director and the studio fucked it up a bit does not change the fact that those are still the best valley girl characters ever written, nor that Paul Reubens is hilarious.

i think the opening song is so fitting for the show. maybe one of the reasons TB got an Emmy nod for its main title design? at the comic con panel, alan ball talked about how he initially used that song as a place-holder, never really intending for it to be the theme as it is now. he later changed his mind when he couldn't find anything that worked as well as that everett song does. and to answer your question, i'm unfamiliar with the rest of everett's work.

HBO Rules! True Blood Episode 7-11 Descriptions
by MATEJ on JULY 10, 2009
Here are more detailed episode descriptions for True Blood episodes 7-11, which will air in August. A lot of spoilers in there! Click read spoilers below for more info.

True Blood Episode 7 “Release Me”

(August 2)
Betrayed by Daphne, Sam finds himself in an unenviable predicament at the hands of Maryann and her wild-eyed minions. Imprisoned with Hugo in the F.O.T.S. church, Sookie uses her telepathic powers to reach out to Bill, who’s being detained at the hotel by a stubbornly obsessive Lorena. After crossing a line with the Newlins, a fearful Jason tries to sever his ties with the Fellowship of the Sun, but gets plenty of resistance from Steve and his enforcer Gabe.

True Blood Episode 8 “Timebomb”

(August 9)
Sookie’s captivity takes an unexpected turn when Eric arrives to do his master’s bidding on the eve of the Fellowship’s lockdown. In Bon Temps, Sam finds himself in hot water after making a gruesome discovery at Merlotte’s, and Andy proves no help in coming to his defense. Sent home by Bill, Jessica and Hoyt learn that when it comes to sex, every time is the first time. Tara and Eggs devour a mysterious meal prepared by Maryann, with unexpected results. After Jason pays off his debt to the vampires, Godric looks to enlighten his more single-minded followers.

True Blood Episode 9 “I Will Rise Up”

(August 16)
A wounded Eric plays Sookie for a sucker, to Bill’s dismay, and ends up getting inside her head. Later, Sookie and Jason bond over their recent adventures. Blaming Eggs for Tara’s bruises and bizarre behavior, Lafayette and Lettie Mae try to figure out a way to pry their kin from Maryann’s clutches. Hoyt defends his relationship with Jessica to Maxine, to no avail. Jailed by Bud along with a group of Bon Temps revelers, Sam looks for a way to escape and avoid capture by an increasingly obsessed Maryann. In Dallas, Eric and the vampires defend their recent actions to Nan Flanagan and are shocked when Godric decides to take the fall for their PR disaster.

True Blood Episode 10 “New World in My View”

(August 23)
Sookie, Bill and Jason return to a Bon Temps turned upside down by Maryann. Lured to Merlotte’s by Arlene, Sam and Andy find cold comfort in their refuge from a group of bloodthirsty revelers. Bill discovers that traditional vampire techniques don’t work on Maryann; Hoyt and Jessica try to keep a lid on Maxine’s madness; and Sookie tries to push through the darkness consuming Tara. With all hell breaking loose, Jason takes the bull by the horns to rescue Sam, at least for the moment.

True Blood Episode 11 “Frenzy”

(August 30)
With the crisis in Bon Temps careening out of control, Bill seeks out the advice of Sophie-Anne (Evan Rachel Wood), the Vampire Queen of Louisiana, but must exercise patience before she gives him critical information. Meanwhile, Sookie and Lafayette find that protecting Tara from herself is more difficult than they anticipated; a desperate Sam turns to an unlikely source for assistance; and Jessica tests Hoyt’s allegiance to Maxine.

I don't mean to be rude but were you watching when he got shot? They showed the gun she had and him being shot, they won't let him die but he definitely got shot. Though it was pretty obvious, in my opinion, that it was one of those vampire killing guns. Probably a wood bullet or something so he's not going to die.

Jason was the shit last night. Poor Jessica with the healing hymen and all. I just about died when Bill walked in on her and Hoyt the first time, the look on Bill's face. Holy Balls @ the bloody heart pie and Tara and Eggs getting all crazy on each other afterward. Sam is screwed. And ditto on being so glad to see Lorena get what she deserved, hopefully we won't see her again for a while, but it was entertaining watching Lil' Sookie get all up in her grill about trying to steal her man... er um, vampire. Was it just me or was Eric a little more smiley than usual tonight?! I loved him trying to pass as one of the L.O.D. recruits.

Also, Godric pwns Jesus. Hehe.

This was probably my fave episode so far this season.

“True Blood” Showdown: Team Bill vs. Team Eric
By Julie Steinberg

http://s.wsj.net/media/teambillteameric_E_20090810155339.jpg
Entertainment Weekly’s vampire cover last week was devoted to the men who populate our nightmarish fantasies, or fantastical nightmares, or whatever collective craze for vampires is obsessing so many of us right now.

Online readers were asked to rank their favorites and to no one’s surprise (with the exception of those of us who struggle with his noun-verb construction) Robert Pattinson took 49% of the vote. More interesting was the breakdown between “True Blood”’s top contenders: Team Eric scored 19%. Team Bill? A measly 6%. The masses have spoken: Team Bill, well, sucks. Here are our top reasons why everyone’s Season One favorite vamp has started to sour and why Eric Northman is a welcome beam of Viking sunshine.

Bill’s passivity. No longer the aggressive, defend-to-the-death Civil War soldier, Bill (played by Stephen Moyer) spends a lot of time moping around, being held prisoner, wallowing in the past, or, you know, just mulling things over. Sure, Lorena held him captive for a few days at Eric’s behest. That said, his finally taking action and running into the Fellowship of the Sun screaming “Soooookie” was less than effective. Even Sookie looked at him expectantly, waiting to see what he was going to do to Steve Newlin. And he did… nothing; Jason Stackhouse ended up saving the day. And Bill had the gall to proclaim irrelevantly to Eric that Sookie was still his. We get it, Bill, Sookie’s yours – even though you show a fifth of the interest Eric does in actually wanting her. Darn it Bill, you haven’t done one remotely useful thing this season, except maybe refrain from ruining Jessica’s relationship with Hoyt.

Eric (played by Alexander Skarsgård), on the other hand, isn’t content to sit around. He’s a doer, a go-getter, a Swedish Ivy-Leaguer overachiever, if you will. Even if he did let Sookie walk into a trap, he was just being loyal to Godric, his maker/BFF/potential lover. Eric’s all business, the Putin of the supernatural world, and his quiet authority is infinitely more powerful than Bill’s temper tantrums.

Even Bill’s looks are starting to suffer. As cool as clotted cream in season 1, Bill’s started to show the effects of some aging, which, seeing as he’s a vampire and theoretically stuck in time, can’t be a good thing. His pallor, erotically chalky at first, pales in comparison to Eric’s tan and muscular physique that screams eternal virility (plus, his whiteness appears to end at his chin, like a bad make-up job — we’re looking at you, “True Blood” stylists!). The spark between Eric and Sookie has only intensified, whereas the love scenes between her and Bill are lukewarm at best.

Move over Bill, head on back to Lorena, and let Eric carry the rest of the season (on his impossibly broad shoulders, please).

This show continues to bring it every week..

I've only been wondering if Lafayette will have a bigger impact towards the end of the season, he's been somewhat absent the past few episodes. It seems like him and Eric still have some unfinished business, I'm still holding on to the notion that he's going to be turned at some point.

I also think Andy Belfleur will play a major role in bringing Maryann down.. Maybe he'll be the one that frees Sam next episode.

I bet you Eric gets mortally wounded at Godrichs expense, Sookie and Jason go unharmed, although I wonder if Jason dodges it since he is like 2 feet from him. I dont think Godrich can die yet. Theres more plans for him later supposedly. And yeah to the story, Eric all the way. Bummer for Jessica to being eternal virgin.

To get that I have to pay a bunch more fucking cable costs though. That's just on top of your normal cable. I'd pay 10 bucks for a season of the show... non drm. That's the only HBO show I'm interested in right now anyways... At most there are two shows on HBO I'm interested in at one time.

i can understand why people don't have tv's and cable, but my point is that if you are going to pay for cable tv, and watch it, there is no excuse for not having dvr too. im not positive, but i think the price is pretty much the same. that way you can watch whatever you want whenever you want, and without commercials. and tivo records shows it thinks you like that you might not even know about, which is also pretty awesome.

obviously if you know how to find everything on the net, then good for you, but a lot of people don't, so dvr is the next best thing. and yea, the whole sports thing is pretty important too. not to mention, there are plenty of other things on tv that are not available on the net.

Generally, you only get invites if you have a stellar ratio. Which can be tricky on some sites.

I currently have an invite to a pretty stellar site for day of TV shows (although the site is not restricted to TV content), something like 70 different shows are posted on average each day. Let's start with that and see if it cures some of your woes.... PM me a good email address (i don't think hotmail is allowed).

Also,
Godric is quickly becoming one of the most interesting characters in the show. I love the interplay between him and Eric, and I'm really curious about his and Jason's apparent fascination with each other.
SPOILERS
One of Jason & Sookie's grandparents was a fairy. As a result, some of this grandparent's descendants may possess special powers - Sookie is a telepathe, Jason we're not sure yet (but he's great in the sack, right?). Also, a fairy's blood is exotic to vampires (why Lorena remarked that Barry's blood tasted different). I get the feeling that Godric, being super old with super keen senses, sniffed the fairy blood in Jason and thus, his intrigue.
