View Full Version : I need an epic techno playlist.

I've discovered that my math teacher Mr. Zaidin's is a techno fan, so I've decided to make him an amazing mix CD in hopes that it will bribe him (I've succesfully done similar bribery to several teachers in the past) into giving me a better grade.
So I figured the best place to expand on some techno knowledge would be here.
Okay, so give me songs and artists.

before this goes any further, and I don't mean this in a condescending way at all, but do you mean he likes electronic dance music, or that he specifically likes the sub-genre of techno?
I'm more than happy to help either way, just getting the baseline established first

Zaidins does not need an apostrophe.
Is he gay? That will make a difference.
frozen pilgrim

sure will!
but we still don't know if this is teacher who likes dance music, or gay teacher who specifically likes detroit techno.
edit: can you imagine having a math teacher who was gay and listened to jeff mills? that'd be awesome!

start with to me, the most obvious out of anything:
aphex twin- windowlicker

oGECJP3phyY
nothing lasts- shpongle
GyAgsvi18Xc&feature=related
I wish- infected mushroom (skazi remix)
i2llWnW90Ak&feature=related
(kind of similar, I suppose, but)
1200 micrograms- ayahuasca

some people dislike this track, but I love it-
chemical brothers- do it again
LLOJyH5sz6E
gregor tresher- a thousand nights
Opcgr-gOEro
jeff mills- the art of barrier breaking
lE4UgebDkgA
cut chemist- the garden

Joop - The Future
Guru Josh Project - Infinity
Tiesto - Adagio for Strings
Basement Jaxx - Where's Your Head At

tiesto's not completely horrible. and he puts on ridiculous light shows. but he's not worthy of even a fraction of his praise, fortune, or ridiculous acclaim. he's a half way decent trance producer, and a second-rate DJ at best. I mean, I don't think anyone would dispute that in terms of mixing skills, even benny benassi wipes the dance floor with him.

The best trance "producer" is without a doubt Paul Oakenfold. You can say what you want his mixing skills, because they really are lame, but he has some studio tracks that are sick.

you know who isn't completely terrible, but who I missed this year? above & beyond.
for me, in terms of trance, I always find myself going for psytrance instead. it can be faster and a bit more abrasive, but I find it's much more interesting and more creative.

Also, Orbit, come on... I give any non-trance DJ a break as long as they don't spin completely awful bullshit. Aoki's no Frankie Knuckes... or Mr. Oizo, even, but he's not as awful as, say, Paul van Dyk.

You can get a free trial run of Virtual DJ and run with it, I guess.

www.virtualdj.com/ - Just download the free trial. It'll give you just about everything you'll need.
Jesus... a 15-year old DJ from my hometown. I hope to god you don't suck, because it'd be nice to hear about a musician from SD who doesn't have shit for musical taste.

to be fair, paul van dyk is not that awful. at least the guy knows how to mix and produce. i haven't heard him lately, but a couple of years ago he was mixing prog breaks in his sets which i thought was pretty nice. i don't like trance but i give the guy credit for the effort.
and there's something so wrong in saying pvd is awful but requesting junkie xl.

So I figured out Abelton and I have my mix ready... So, does anyone know how to export a live playlist to mp3 format?

play it back and record it with something else...
is all the mixing internal and automated? no jogging, looping, or crossfading?
I know how to export reason files with the automation as MP3s, but I'm not an ableton expert D:

Yeah, it's all internal, but what I basically did was fuck with the volume levels at certain points of each track (the beginning and end usually, unless the song has a shitty intro) and just set songs to fade out or fade in. It's really easy once you figure out how to access each track's mixer, I mean, fuck, I figured it out in one night.
It's cool for now since, tonight, I'll just pop open the mix and play it off Abelton, but I'd like to upload it here for you guys. I added a bunch of pretty obvious stuff, a couple of mashups and some more DP, since I know the party crowd I'm playing for, so it runs about 2 hours. Yeahhhhhhhhhh.

I was very happy when I heard "A Thousand Nights" played by Aphex Twin this year.
