Speculate, speculate, speculate people!!! We are within weeks of this years lineup being released, how do you think you are going to take it. Better headliners this year? Big disappointments? Major conflicts in schedule? or will it be a testicle tingling experience?

Big relief when I see The Avalanches playing one of those days and also the "I told you so" feeling when No Doubt is the headliner on Friday.

I'll let out a big sigh of relief, however I know panic will once again be induced with speculations on set times.

I will feel the same as I always do: Stoked for a few acts, overall a little disappointed until I research, and then super excited about the bands by the time we get to Coachella week.

I will be amused and furiously looking up the bands I don't know that well or at all.

Then I'll be wondering what artist(s) will be added 2 months from now that will amaze us all. I still get chills thinking about the day I signed on this website in early April and I saw the giant Prince symbol.

the "I told you so" feeling when No Doubt is the headliner on Friday.

Aw, who cares about no doubt anymore anyway.

I would be relieved and hopefully excited about the bands that will be playing.

id' crap on myself if OUTKAST was headlining friday night and saturday night in the sahara tent had MAGDA VS. AUDION with Ricardo Villalobos. Id make love to myself if I saw Jay Z perform with the roots their MTV UNPLUGGED SET! in the outdoor arena on a sunday dusty sunsleepy afternoon before the big lights come up. Id go insane if tiga, bob sinclair and sven vath played all on sunday night to close out the Sahara Night and another Epic Coachella which will make my 4th in a row(06', 07', 08'). Maybe if they didnt charge so much which would mean a new price for water? like 3 bucks? so people wouldnt pass out as much or even over dose. R.I.P to for the first passing of a fellow coachella goer last year in 2008. I would feel relieved but ANXIOUS AS FUCK for the weekend to come up. I would also worry and have an anxiety attack if I have a major Architecture Deadline to complete since I am in Architecture school and may require to pull an all nighter in the design studio which I love as opposed to Coachella which makes me love the design studio and vice versa! Either way Music and Design go both ways with me and they are apart of my life and apart of both experiences. I will also be blessed when the line up comes out only to produce my 8th or 9th sketch book from the wonderful and progressing life changing experience yet again. Enjoy the ride folks only a couple of days left until we reach our truth about what to possibly not expect or so be it! It is what it is! I love coachella and HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!!

Elated, because it means Coachella is just around the next curve!!! And, well...Smarky, because it justifies my reasoning for planting my ass in front of this thing everyday for hours, posting inane shit, blowing off responsibility, and updating my ability to procrastinate over the past year... Nah, nah, nahhh, can't wait!:dumbo

Good question? I'm going to be feeling like I always feel every year...............................STONED out of my mind!!!!! I'm talking about...."I can't see! I can't open my eyes!!" "What's that thumping sound that keeps getting faster and faster and faster and faster and louder and louder and louder!!!!! " I ....Ccc...Aaa..n't
Bb..rr..eeaathe!!!" "Don't touch me."

BUT, I think that I'll also be excited about some of the bands and bummed about the others. Oh well. I realy just like to drive out to Coachella. The bands and the people are just kind of a plus.

Exactly this, but I have one bit of advice for you friends, and that is, Coachella is about bands that are at the very beginning of their careers, or their peak, do not fret when you look at the lineup and go "wtf, who the fuck are these people? where is the smiths/bowie omg /wrists"

Look at the lineup, do some fucking research, and have the fucking time of your life...

The same as I always do. I'll be happy about some (Morrissey, Keane, The Cure, Public Enemy, Fleet Foxes, MGMT) Sad about others (The Killers, Coldplay) and have the response of Who is that until I listen and get excited about new bands. But in the end I'll have a great time.

Boourns
01-03-2009, 08:35 AM
Yeah, there always seems to be a bit of initial disappointment because we care way too much, whether it lasts 5 minutes or 5 weeks.

All I ask for are a couple interesting headliners (gave up on the idea of 3 after rhcp and jj), mostly solid subheadliners, and an undercard filed with lots of great talent (like certain bands that have needed to play since 2005 wink wink), and hopefully some acts I can't really see elsewhere.

arya.
01-03-2009, 08:45 AM
I realized last year that all it takes for Coachella to be a successful experience is to have one act that I'm dying to see each day. The rest is just amazing buildup.

That being said, I'll probably be a bit disappointed, but that's to be expected.

Boourns
01-03-2009, 08:50 AM
Yeah, I hope there is at least one act on the same level as portishead/jarvis cocker/massive attack this year, preferably multiple.

the smiths, blur, pulp or jarvis, or radiohead would fit that bill.

Dale Gribble
01-03-2009, 08:50 AM
Depends on how many of the rumored artists are actually confirmed.

01-03-2009, 09:18 AM
I could care less about the lineup, who guessed right, who guessed wrong, who ends up coming anyways, or who throws a hissy fit and doesnt show up at all.
I always have and always will have a great time.
Coachella is Coachella. No matter how stubborn or narrow minded someone might be, they will find great music to listen to, strange and interesting people to check out or hang or party with and they may even make a new friend or two. Only a brain dead amoeba would miss out on a good time.

I think people who only go for the headliners only do that once. Once they get there they come to realize there are a million other good bands playing.

I got a good feeling about this year!, in 07 i was super stoked, in 08 their was a little initial sadness, but once i did some researching like many others already said, i was introduced to some great acts i got to see in 08 that i had no idea who they were when the lineup came out in January like; Battles, Cut Copy, Sharon Jones & the Dap Kings, Spank Rock, MGMT, Boys Noize, Does it Offend You Yeah? & thats not mentioning all the ones i missed due to conflicts, so no matter what, i know i'll B excited for the lineup by the time April comes around

The weird thing is with 2008, I didn't really get into anyone new. There were some acts I knew about but didn't really get around to listening until they were on the lineup, so maybe that counts. I guess I'm lucky that I already enjoyed St. Vincent and Battles in 2007.

like every year i will be somewhat disappointed because of some shitty headliner but i will get over it and hopefully at that time there will still be tickets (like in 07 and 08...until i read it was Portishead's only US performance...well advertised performance. Then i had to buy tickets immediately after hearing that)...although i really have never watched the headliners except Radiohead, Pixies, Portishead and Prince (some of Roger Waters but I made mistake to go to the justice side and was very disappointed for having to wait and hear the rest of Roger Waters and not end up enjoying justice at all)

The lineup won't matter to me until the set times come out. Not until then will I know who I will actually be able to see and who will unfortunately not be seen due to a conflict. For me personally, 2007 had the worst conflicts and thus was my least favorite even though the lineup was solid on paper. Last year had a lot of initial weakness but the set times worked in my favor, and it was one of the better years for me.

I'd rather contemplate how I'll feel when the price of tickets is released.

As for this, TeamCoachellaHellYeah posted an article somewhere else where Paul says he doesn't see a decrease in pricing for this particular festival just because the economy sucks.

last year's Friday set times made me want to slit my wrists... but i thought that day was waaaay too stacked compared to the other two (all the cancelled acts helped a little though, thanks The Bees!)... i only had a couple of overlaps the rest of the weekend, and only one complete conflict (Black Mountain) on Sunday.

i should have skipped Sean Penn & watched the rest of Metric though... damn.

& i obv should have NOT skipped the end of Portishead to see all of Flogging Molly's set... but i didn't know i'd see them two weeks later, doing a MUCH better performance at Weenie Roast...

im kinda wondering about how im going to feel when the lineup is announced.

For coachella 08, i didnt really know what to expect. I heard so many complaints about how coachella this and that, being too hot, too expensive, this that. Me being a die hard Pink Floyd fan, Roger Waters (and some other acts, of course) pushed me over the edge to get my tix and make the drive out there. I had the time of my life out there for that whole weekend. The best. Those are memories ill take to the grave.

Now that i think about it, it almost doesnt matter whos headlining. Im going. GV didnt disappoint last year at all. I just went from tent to tent enjoying music and had the best time. I probably would quit going to the festival is the Jonas Brothers headline but GV wouldnt do such a thing.

For me and many others when last year's lineup was announced... it hit with a little bit of a "thud". It seemed underwhelming. The '08 Fest was still so amazing, and with the late addition of Prince it was the cherry on top. I guess in a round-about way what I'm getting at, is

Whoever is on the lineup I'm going to keep an open mind to (well almost... Jack Johnson... no). I can't wait!!!

Have you ever had a really large crap cookin'? After a couple of days, you're ready to burst. When "C-Day" finally approaches, you brace yourself for the uncomfortable anal stretch. You hold on tight, and push with all of your might. You can feel vessels popping in places where you didn't realize you had vessels. You're on the verge of passing out, you begin to see dark spots, and you get lightheaded, when all of the sudden...PLOP! You stand up to marvel at what you've done. You feel physically relieved. Although your anus is now bleeding, you feel freaking awesome.

And then you lean in closer to inspect your new brown friend. "Corn, WTF! I don't remember eating corn. What the fuck are those red speckles? This is the worst turd I've ever seen".

Yeah, that's how I'll feel.

Wow...

Last year was my first Coachella and I only heard about the fest after the lineup was announced, so I don't know how I'll feel. If I had to guess, I would guess that I will be excited and annoying. After seeing last years lineup (which was amazing for me as an electronic music fan) I couldn't stop talking about Coachella to anyone who would listen.

I will probably be depressed about the bands that didn't make it because I'm a glad half empty kinda girl. Then maybe a week or two later I'll really start to get into it more.

This is the most beautiful work of poetry I've ever read. Wow.

you most likely could have caught islands and animal collective or parts of their sets as something happened in the tent and they were late. i know islands was still on when AC set was to be starting.

Not if it meant missing Prince Portiswerk.

Oh, and I just remembered another missed act: Akron/Family. I can't believe they played during Portishead instead of at 2pm.
