View Full Version : The Stooges - R.I.P. :(

Ron Asheton, guitarist for Iggy and the Stooges, was found dead in his Michigan home. So bummed for Iggy and Ron's bro Scott. And especially for Mike Watt, with whom he was very close. This is a drag. Figures that they were finally nominated for the Rock and Roll Hall of Shame after years of being ignored. I'm glad I got to see them several times, including the Coachella reunion. Ill always be grateful for that. R.I.P. Ron, and thank you.

Sad. At least they'll get in for sure now.
How is it they aren't in and Bob Seger is?

I hope Watt's O.K. This has to be one of the most devestating things for him since D. Boon died over 23 years ago. He is scheduled to play several shows with Banyan here in Cali over the next few days. Hope he knows that we understand if those shows can't go on.

Do people really care about that rock and roll hall of fame? Is it really that big of deal? Seems like rockers could give a shit.

The Stooges reunion at Coachella 2003 was one of the best shows I've ever seen, and he was one of the best rock guitarists of all

I saw the Stooges headline Little Steven's Underground Garage Festival in 2004, and they were stunning. Having the chance to hear Iggy and the Asheton brothers (with Mike Watt, 'natch) was a dream I'd previously feared would go unfulfilled.
Long after senility begins robbing me of lesser memories, Ron Asheton's blistering riffs spilling out across a rain-soaked Randall's Island will remain etched forever on my psyche.
Safe passage, Ron...

I'll never forget how stoked I was to see them on the poster back in '03. I have harbored conflicted feelings about Iggy for awhile. Obviously, he is a god, but his decision making process has often been suspect. (You can't even hear Watt in the mix on their last record, shitty as it was, it might have been better if he had let Watt be himself) However, this sucks any way ya slice it.

We may have run into one another up there. If so, I apologize.
That whole day was loads of fun, but there's no one I could imagine having closed out the night other than the Stooges.
I'd heard at the time that Chris Columbus was filming the festival for cinematic or DVD release, but that never materialized. What a shame.

Idiots. They couldn't have put off Womack or Little Anthony for one more year just so Asheton could get a proper tribute?

Jeff Beck is a perfect example of a phenomenally techically talented guitarist who makes uninteresting music. Yes he can play like a motherfucker but I find his music pretty boring.
I suppose this means Yngwie Malmsteen is up next.
