There's no articles to quote just yet, but just now a news report came on that said an Airbus of US Airways crashed in the Hudson River.

Hopefully nobody died, there looks like there's a bunch of passengers floating by the plane.

That's a nice thought, but my guess is that there will be deaths. How could there not be?

ITS THE TERRORISTS!

THEY'RE TRYING TO TURN THE PLANE INTO A BOAT SO THEY CAN PIRATE LOOT FROM ALL THE VESSELS IN THE HUDSON RIVER AND HOLD THEM RANSOM FOR MONIES!

SILLY TERRORISTS! THATS A PLANE, NOT A BOAT!

Thats what you get for buying Airbus. It's all about Boeing.

Good thing it made it to the river. We all know what can happen if that plane crashes in the city...

So far so good it would seem. On the bright side, this may mean we've reached our plane crash quota for the next few years and us Coachella travelers can fly with confidence.

Everybody survived thankfully.

Fuck the A320's, Fuck US Airways. I'm on that A320 at least twice a week, and would feel much more comfortable in anything but the Airbus

False. If it's anything mechanical, it's poor maintenance. However, an overwhelming majority of the time it's more simple: human error.

The DC-10 is the only passenger plane I'm aware of that had major safety flaws in its actual design.

If everybody did indeed survive, that's impressive.

I don't understand blaming the plane OR the airline for a bird impact. How do you guard against that?

Major kudos needs to be given to the pilot of this plane. How after being in the air for 3 minute he was able to land the plane, keep it intact, AND afloat is miraculous.

captncrzy
01-15-2009, 01:15 PM
Some of you have no fucking idea what you are talking about.

A flock of geese took out both engines. Our pilot, who has thousands upon thousands of hours in the air and in training saved every single life on that plane. We are widely respected in the industry and with the FAA for having one of the most stringent maintenance policies and flight training programs in the world.

This has nothing to do with Airbus vs. Boeing. Airbuses are more environmentally friendly, more economical, and if you talk to most pilots-they'll tell you they prefer the Airbus over the Boeing.

Just because you read some horsehit opinon about which is safer or better constructed or whatever doesn't make you an expert, you stupid lurker asshole. If you don't feel safe on it, why on earth would you fly it? "Gee, I don't think it's safe to jump off the Brooklyn Bridge, but it's the fastest way down to the water, so I may as well jump." Fucking dummy.

Damn Captn, defensive much? But kudos for being a good company woman.

captncrzy
01-15-2009, 01:22 PM
Defensive? Absolutely. We're not some big corporate machine here; up until a 1/2 hour ago, we didn't know if our customers were safe, if our crew were safe, if we had any coworkers or friends on that flight, anything. To come in and talk shit for the sake of talking shit when people really could have died is just tasteless.

Anyway, I'm on my way home; I can't do anything here anyway.

boarderwoozel3
01-15-2009, 01:27 PM
Well, it seems everything turned out alright in terms of everyone making it off the plane alive, and the early reports are that birds were the culprit, so epic-PR-clusterfuck avoided. Now you all have a standard-PR-clusterfuck on your hands.

Easy captain. I fly on it every week because San Luis Obispo Airport is now basically all US Airways, save for a couple United flights. US Airways is consistently ranked as one of, if not the worst airline in terms of customer satsifaction. Sleeping in airports ain't my cup o' tea, and the only time that happens to me is on US Air.

Start reading the news again; we've been in the top three in on-time performance nine of the last 12 months.

That's great. Really. But what do I need the news for to know that I've slept in 3 airports in the past 6 months, and those flights were US Airways. On-time performance does not equal what I stated in "customer satisfaction". I've called an 800 number on numerous occasions, and left those calls wanting nothing more than to put a bullet in my head after a long run-around. Luckily, tonight I'm flying United into Santa Maria. No airport nap for me tonight!

I have only spent the night in an airport once and it was american airlines. Thunderstorm in Chicago caused it.

Awesome that they all survived btw, the pilots a god damned hero and i'm sure there will be another airplane movie now based on it.

Not sure what to tell you...checked our flights out of SBP-none are on an A320--they're express flights from SBP to PHX. We don't fly anywhere else from there.

If you have another issue, PM me your info and I'll see what I can do.

US Airways is largely indistinguishable (in my mind) from American, United, Continental, all the rest. The seats are too small, you're crammed in with some drunk slob talking too loud next to you, and the flight attendents are overworked and underpaid. Flying is right up there with waiting in line at the post office in terms of shitty ways to spend your time.

btw mindcradle I fly a lot for work so I have plenty of experience to know what i'm talking about.

Same thing happened to me. It wasn't American Airlines though. Did you have to sleep at Midway? God that sucked. I was super hungover coming back from my last night in New York City. Was not in the mood.

I just read that as well, apparently its just unsafe to fly over the Hudson River.
