i voted for kid a since the question was Best album. in my opinion it is by far there best, most influential, and challenging work.

as for favorite i would have to say in rainbows, simply because that album has grown into me...

I voted amnesiac. In Rainbows and Kid A are my personal faves at the moment, but long term I think amnesiac is their best work personally.

Computer. That album changed the way I listen to music. I simply cannot listen to Radiohoad on a crappy stereo anymore. There's so much spatial depth to OK Computer....it's quite beautiful.

I'm constantly surprised by the love for In Rainbows...

Not that it's bad, but I feel Radiohead could have made that album in their sleep

Wow, this crowd swings young. Most people my age would say OK Computer or The Bends, easily. Less experimental, but the songs were just more inspired. I like OK Computer better as a cohesive statement, but "Fake Plastic Trees" or "Street Spirit (fade out)" are probably their best songs, and they're both on The Bends.

I quite like In Rainbows... much better than Hail to the Thief.

Do you agree with this review of KidA? I don't, but i wanted opinions..

Instead of simply adding club beats or sonic collage techniques, Radiohead strive to incorporate the unsettling "intelligent techno" sound of Autechre and Aphex Twin, characterized by its skittering beats and stylishly dark sonic surfaces, for Kid A. To their immense credit, Radiohead don't sound like carpetbaggers, because they share the same post-postmodern vantage point as their inspirations. As a result, Kid A is easily the most successful electronica album from a rock band — it doesn't even sound like a rock band, even if it does sound like Radiohead. So, Kid A is an unqualified success? Well, not quite. Despite its admirable ambition, Kid A is never as visionary or stunning as OK Computer, nor does it really repay the time it demands. OK Computer required many plays before revealing the intricacies of its densely layered mix; here, multiple plays are necessary to discern the music's form, to get a handle on quiet, drifting, minimally arranged songs with no hooks. Of course, the natural reaction of any serious record geek is that if the music demands so much work, it must be worth it — and at times, that supposition is true. But Kid A's challenge doesn't always live up to its end of the bargain. It's self-consciously alienating and difficult, and while that can be intriguing, it seems deeper than it actually is. Repeated plays dissipate the mystique and reveal a number of rather drab songs (primarily during the second half), where there isn't enough under the surface to make Radiohead's relentless experimentation satisfying. But mixed results are still results, and about half of the songs positively shimmer with genius.

ok computer. hands down. it's not just the songs, it's the way they flow together, the way they were recorded, the way they sort of built the bridge to the electronic side of the house... it's an opus.

and why can't we see the results and what dumbass voted for pablo honey?! :p

Who the fuck voted for IR over HTTT? Jesus Christ.

I totally think IR is a better album, as do a lot of people I know. Personally, HTTT was a huge letdown for me.

Neither is their best.

Tough choice, but I had to go with Amnesiac. Both Kid A and Amnesiac really go hand in hand. They're taken from the same studio sessions, right? The Bends might be the most consistent all the way through, though...

OK Computer is their only good album. The Bends had a few good songs, but wasn't really anything special compared to most other Britpop at the time. The rest are boring as hell.

Their entire career post-OK Computer has basically consisted of them ripping off much more talented artists and passing shit off as their own.

I'm gonna go:

1) In Rainbows
2) OK Computer
3) Amnesiac
4) Kid A
5) The Bends
6) Hail to the Thief
7) Pablo Honey

With 6 being waaaaaaaaaaaaaaay far above 7. Pablo Honey is pretty much shite, and I really like several tracks from HTTT, esp 2+2=5. I would probably switch HTTT with Kid A if not for Idioteque and EiiRP.

Tell me what makes an album like Nevermind/Ten groundbreaking or brilliant and I'll tell you what Grunge artist did it before them.

Also by your dumbass logic then anyone who has ever played an instrument suck because they didn't do it first. Pull your head out of your ass and realize that without Kid A most wouldn't have heard of Aphex. Point Liars, Beta Band, or any other artist who Thom hypes up and then thousands of hipsters (including me) go and check them out.

Hail to the Thief

For me that is.

I'm on that bandwagon too. But I also think that after Pablo Honey, their album rank is interchangeable depending on the listener. They're all impeccable.

when rolling stone did a year end recap back when hail to the thief came out, they punctuated their praise for hail with an important statement: radiohead are not avant garde. but they are about as close to avant garde as popular music gets. (paraphrase)

this assertion initially bothered me, until i realized that it was not a criticism, and does not take away from their absolutely outstanding work in the least. people arguing that radiohead are not "doing anything new" may be right.. so what? they still make amazing music.

and it's not like they sound particularly similar to any other band anyway. they have carved out a niche that is unmistakably radiohead.

the possibility of an avant garde was convincingly challenged after the peak of modernism, over half a century ago. in other words, creating something truly new (in the arts, music, etc) is next to impossible. it's all been done, as the saying goes. the prevailing trend today is recombination of previous styles, a defining trait of post-modernism. (see girltalk)
