I was thinking about it today and figured some people on here have probably been to an amazing number of live shows.

I couldn't count, my brain is not capable of accurately archiving it all.

I've certainly had my fair share of wonderful memories form attending live shows. Surely a fraction of some people around here but 100+.

The increased disposable income from gainful employment would raise that number quickly.

Yeah I'm still in HS so almost all of the little money I make goes to concerts. But you know what? It's great being broke for a few weeks when you know you've got 3 concerts in the upcoming month..

Does this count every live music experience? The block parties/street fairs with little bands (some who went on to be big) or the college events with mediocre bands - what constitutes a concert? :p

Carnie100
01-22-2009, 04:19 PM
Good question. I think that's a whole 'nother question.

I would say that anything you have to pay to get into is a concert because then that rids of the shitty little free street fair bands/etc. Then again, sometimes that's not true either.

so if you know someone that can get you into shows for free, those don't count?

sin213

i would say any "live" show where you were there to actually see the band. not just out at the bar that night and someone happened to be playing. and it doesn't even have to be a show that you paid to get in...anything that gets you off your ass supporting the live music scene.

venues could include block parties, clubs, bars, amphitheatres, concert halls...you get the idea.

that would be MY definition of a "concert".

no block parties unless block party played :) thats a hard one though ... the band gets paid (even part of the bar tab ), they are a band you can find on the internez ..... maybe no matter how small the audience is, they are not just your friends and neighbors .... and a festival is only counted as one, even a multiple day fest .. yea its pretty hard to say ... its at a real venue ... maybe a combination of some of those ... like i wouldnt count the random golden gate shows that were just sort of happening, but i would count this golden gate show so who knows ... cr****

Well,I am 55 and went to my first show when I was 10 years old( I sold my Barbie doll and Dream house) and saw The Animals( before they were Eric Burden and the Animals) at the Steel pier in Atlantic City( that is where a horse dived off the pier into the ocean!). I have been going to shows ever since-Woodstock(the original) Fillmore East etc. I have gone to several shows a month until this last year-I am just too tired to go out late and get up the next day unless it is a band I really love( last one The Decemberists at the Wiltern)I have been to every Coachella too and I don't think I have seen 9000 shows!

Sadly, I've never lived anywhere that actually HAS shows that I would want to see. I'm probably at between 75 and 100, which isn't much considering how old I am. But for 95% of those, I had to travel over 150 miles.

I've put the last 500 or so on my lastfm, but still have a ton more to add. I reckon easily over 1000. I've been to close to 400 in the last 3 years.

For three years I worked for a concert promoter in London, and I racked up three gigs a week at least. I reckon I've seen close to 1,000. My first gig was The Jam in Leeds, UK in the early 1980's. I was five years old and my older brother was supposed to be looking after me, but he had tickets so he just took me along. It was pretty darn awesome!

like actual shows with tickets stubs from ticketmaster and ticketweb and stuff like that probably around 250 i'd say...gotta check the stub collection

but live gigs in general including the above from backyard and youth center grind shows to hardcore shows at churches to jazz clubs to local bands in small venues....i'd say close to 1000 and possibly way more in the last 9 years

There have been periods where i was out seeing live music literally 5 nights a week

Hell, my friends' band the Outer Seventh i've probably seen 40 or 50 times alone over the last 7 years at various venues with various bands

Rough guess...

1600-1700

Somewhere in that area, I've got at least 800 stubs (a lot of shows I've gone to have been guest list things)

Keep in mind my first concert was 1981, and I started going to my own concerts (on my own or with school friends) in 1986.

Plus I'm still going strong - I used to go to waaaay more, but I prolly do about 30-40 a year these days (meaning since kid has come along)

me to i don't think i'd have survived this far in life if i didnt have music in it

and that is why, if given a choice, i would rather be blind than deaf.

late nights and early mornings are rough. one night we went out to a show, got home at 4:30am and our daughter was up at 6am. that day was a blur.

having worked in the concert promotion biz for several years, i am well over 500 shows, not counting shows i worked, though.

I don't know exactly but I do know it's several hundred. I would guess somewhere in the 500+ range.

It started with George Thorogood and the Destroyers back in 1991.

i would say any "live" show where you were there to actually see the band. not just out at the bar that night and someone happened to be playing. and it doesn't even have to be a show that you paid to get in...anything that gets you off your ass supporting the live music scene.

I don't like that definition, because there have been quite a few times that I've walked into a bar or club and been blown away by someone who was playing (and stuck around to see them rather than just going off to drink). ;)

I'm not sure how many shows I've been to, but I'm gonna guess in the ~400-500 range.

My first show was in '95 and I have since seen over 300 shows in 12 states and 5 different countries.

I never bothered to count the raves I went to, but I'd guess that would add another 80 or so to my total.
