This is a petition in response to the Paul McCartney one.
The Cure are known for playing some of the longest sets humanly possible. Their shows usually last 3.5 hours.

Here is a typical Set List, this one is from 09.02.2008 Stockholm - Hovet (Sweden)

I, along with many other coachella-goers I'm sure, saw The Cure at Sasquatch festival last year. it was one of the most amazing shows I've ever seen. I stand by Porl Thompson as my pick for the most amazing guitarist I've ever seen, and that is over such greats as Clapton, Prince, Mike McCready (Pearl Jam) and John Frusciante (RHCP).

The only down side of the show was that they cut the set down to 2.5 hours. I know last year Roger Waters was given a 2.5 hour set, which has got to be one of the longest in coachella history. I am BEGGING GV to give the Cure MORE! here is their set list from Sasquatch:

May 25th, 2008 - George, Wa. (Sasquatch Festival at The Gorge)

Setlist:
Underneath The Stars,
Prayers For Rain,
A Night Like This,
The End of the World,
Lovesong,
To Wish Impossible Things,
Pictures Of You,
Lullaby,
Fascination Street,
The Perfect Boy,
Hot Hot Hot,
alt.end,
Sleep When I'm Dead,
Push,
Inbetween Days,
Just Like Heaven,
A Letter To Elise,
From the Edge of the Deep Green Sea,
The Only One,
The Walk,
Shake Dog Shake,
Never Enough,
Wrong Number,
One Hundred Years,
Baby Rag Dog Book

1st encore: A Forest

2nd encore: Boys Don't Cry,
Jumping Someone Else's Train,
Grinding Halt,
10:15 Saturday Night,
Killing An Arab

They had to completely cut out their 2nd Encore, including Close To Me which is arguably their sweetest song, and why Can't I be You? too! and they cut out most of the 1st encore too.
PLEASE give me the entire Cure experience!

As noted multiple times in the Cure Setlist thread, they do a different set every night. They were rotating 90 songs on their last tour. Cutting their time does not require them to cut any particular song. It's up to them as to what to play in their allotted time.

Also, I have never seen them play 3 1/2 hours. I'm sure they have, but it's not the norm. Last show I saw was a little under three and it was huge...like 35 songs. Time before that, it was 2 1/2, and they actually played well overtime. (Three encores including Forever- they got fined for breaking city noise curfew.) It was one of the longer shows on that tour. And in '96...again, a little under 3 hours (and that was with no opening act.)

That said they should get a 2+ hour set, because there's just too much material to mine there.

Memorial_07

2 1/2 hour set will probably be their maximum but at least 1 hr. 45 min. for them this year and that's fine

by the way, I didn't see the loudest sound or trust on either of those sets...

Please play them for Coachella!!!

As long as their keyboard ban continues, I doubt they'll be playing Trust anytime soon. That song always required the use of two keyboards!

That would be epic. I'm not aware of them playing it, though I'm sure it probably has at some point.

I know that they did not play it at all on the Swing tour, which would have been the first major tour after it came out.

They played "Want" on the last tour, which to me has a similar feel.

Hey Cure Superfans, maybe one of yall can answer this....

Do they every play (the song) "Disintegration" live?

If not, WTF!?

Also acceptable and hoped for are "Cut" and "End" or "A Forest" or any of their sharper, darker stuff.

I'm willing to give them a chance, but if it's all gonna be marshmallowey Winky Dinky Doooo whimsical stuff like "Friday Im in Love" and other such bumflufferies, then Im not really sure I can be down.

they'll get no more than 90 minutes, me thinks.

Roger Waters only got all that time because he was performing an album.

even Prince last year only got 75 minutes.

Edmontonian, if you thought Sasquatch was great, you are in for a thrill at Coachella -- the Sasquatch set was... not so great by their standards, Robert's voice and energy are usually much much stronger. I really think they are going to blow people away at Coachella... all those who have written them off as a middle-aged obsolete goth band.

At any rate, when I saw them in 2007, they played just shy of 3 hours. They could have played for 3 more ;)

Robert Smith is the same way as Prince, though. He even played until 12:30am back in 2004. I'm not sure if any other band played past curfew before that. He really is notorious for breaking curfew.

They're quite likely going to play a combination of pop hits and darker tracks. If they really are going to be promoting the "darker" half of 4:13 Dream, then probably leaning more towards the latter. But they're not going to step on stage at a festival and not play some radio hits.

It is almost all early cure -- lots from the first album, lots from THOTD. They actually play a lot of Disintegration too (including the title track). They play some from Wild Mood Swings. The latest album sounds like an old Cure album :)

When I saw them in 2004, they finished up the second encore, and on their way off, Roberts says something like "We might be back, hang on". They were back in a matter of a minute to play Forest/Forever.

I got the impression it was a "if we're already in trouble, we might as well keep going" kind of thing. They were already 15 minutes past noise curfew.

Fuck no. Ill take a 60 min set, and stick to the hits. The new and last 4 cd's were garbage. The cure's time is 10years over already. And to say that their guitarist is better than all the others mentioned is fucking crazy. he is good but not even in the same ball park as the greats. Maybe if he starts laying some real leads and solos. No still not that good.

I think i might have rather of seen Jack Johnson.... and that guy sucks as a headliner.

I'm sorry. I've seen The Cure 10+ times and when they play more than 3 hours you are usually counting the minutes to go home. It's a long, long time to be standing and dancing especially after 10 hours of hot sun and basically doing the same thing. Trust me. After a long day at Coachella a 2 1/2 hour tops set is going to seem perfect. It may even seem too long.
