My friend posted this as a myspace bulletin.

"I'm not seeing daft punk in china, and neither are 2,000 other people"

http://iheartyu.com/daft-fraud/

The much anticipated “Daft Hidden” concert set for Friday the 13th in Shanghai has been revealed as a well planned case of fraud, affecting nearly 2,000 ticket buyers. Would be concert goers paid $70USD for tickets to a bogus show, and are now left crying for blood.

Billed as a “hidden” concert, attendees turned over their email and phone numbers and were told that an SMS message would reveal the location of Daft Punk’s legendary live show. This is a common guerrilla marketing tactic for dj’s in Europe, and the otherwise fishy twist was well received by ticket buyers as an eccentric addition to the already fevered excitement surrounding the show.

Tickets were sold from the well furnished and well staffed office for “Red Wall Events” in the trendy Xin Tian Di area, where unsuspecting employees sold tickets to even more unsuspecting fans.

Unfortunately, after repeated requests from the show’s promoter to view the secret venue, the organizers of the show/fraud disappeared from view with an estimated $140,000 USD in tow. After promoters contacted EMI, their suspicions that Daft Punk was NOT performing in Shanghai were confirmed. The show’s website, www.dafthidden.com, has been removed, and it’s creator, a Chinese freelance webdesigner says he was paid in full by an anonymous Frenchman to build the site after being contacted over the phone.

The suspected perpetrators are one alleged French citizen Thomas Ramirez and another alleged Swiss citizen Andy Da Silva, who’s only images from their offices security camera are shown below. The office was leased under false identities, and no official documentation linking to the perpetrators is available.

This blogger believes that there is more to meet the eye, and that the fraudsters are actually 2 kids from Hunan and the best fucking makeup artist on the planet. You heard it here first.

I suppose now they can go watch Electroma and feel sorry for themselves.

It'd be hilarious if the perps were actually DP themselves trying to raise money for the next attraction with future shows (first being the pyramid, of course).

Seriously. Their label or Busy P or someone should have immediately come out and debunked this as soon as they heard about it.

Why would it be Daft Punk fans? The sheer hysteria?

Yes, I cant stand the teenybopper "OMG OMG OMG DAFT PUNK OMG I DONT KNOW WHAT TO DO W/ MYSELF OMFG SCRATCH MY FACE OFF!" - they also seem to be incredibly misinformed, ignorant, and gullible in regards to the act that they supposedly love.

That's really lame. The only moron is the person who committed fraud on all the unsuspecting fans. You would be a moron to pass up a show like that if you were a true music fan, so I can totally relate. After Dafts legendary Coachella performance and equally legendary 2007 tour one would have to be without a pulse to not understand their importance in dance pop culture. Clearly, the organizers knew what they were doing to be able to outwit thousands of people.

I've been to China and some of the upperclass (communist nation, wtf right?) younger folks are fierce music fans. I'm not surprised at all about the hysteria but I'm shocked that some young brilliant chinese web nerd didnt break this story long ago.

Also, does anyone have screenshots of what the site looked like before the chinese government took it offline?

ps. most US music blogs are blocked in China.

No, the fraudulent parties will only be morons if they get busted. For now they are just assholes. It took one look and about 90 seconds to see that the entire thing was complete fake bullshit. You would only be a moron to pass up a show like that WHICH WAS ACTUALLY A REAL SHOW. Otherwise you are the fucking moron. The fraudulent parties only outwitted thousands of morons. Anyway, I'm glad that you can relate to being a moron, that's nice.

The name "Daft Hidden" should have been the first fucking clue that something was weird about the whole thing.
