Thursday is party night in the Campground. People get extra drunk and stay up later. It's hard to sleep the first night but it's a lot of fun.

There is usually pre-parties you can get invited to online. Keep your eyes and ears open for that in the next few months.....
There is a casino in town which is cool. It isn't the nicest casino in the world, but it is something to do. They have a really nice affordable buffet. Great idea to stock up on cheap food before your stuck in the desert all weekend.

You mean 7am. People arrive all night. By 7pm, the place isn't even a quarter full.
Thursday night is fun. Everyone is excited, and you get to know your neighbors. People play soccer in the aisles at midnight.
There's a Karaoke Bar if you're over 21. Last year, they had a laser show (which was kind of stupid, actually) and this other weird video/techno thing (I didn't actually see it.) In some past years, they've shown a movie. I think there's another little all ages "club" in the middle of camp. They sometimes have bands in the campground, but I don't think they did on Thursday.
There's also a party put on by Filter magazine. You can sign up to get on the guest list, and they bus you out somewhere and give you free drinks. You do need a car, because they don't actually come to the campground...you meet somewhere else.
My wife and I drove into town after we had set up our campsite and had a nice dinner...figured it was the last one we'd have for a few days. I've also gone to the movies on Thursday evening to kill some time.
But even if you're stuck at the grounds, it'll be fun. Or, if you get bored, getting some rest is a good idea too.

I wouldn't give up the thursday night campground feeling for anything. especially with the spotlights last year.

Definitely Filter Pre party..
And yes there are plenty of cheap buffets around, you just have to visit one of the many casinos around.
If you leave early Sunday night I would recommend going to Morongo Casino and seeing BB King.

What about those of us who are arriving Thursday but not camping? Frankly, you guys enjoy the dust and noise. I have a room with a jacuzzi and view waiting for me a few miles away. I'll probably check in early, kick it by the pool sipping drinks with umbrellas, rock a sushi dinner, chill a bottle of Marlborough Valley Sauv and kick it in the whirlpool to end up the evening. If I run into any Coachella attendees along the way, I'm pretty sure all that will be ratcheted up a notch or two.

We campers aren't going to be too worried about our evening being ratcheted up a notch or two, or twenty... Thurs. at Coachella = one of the best parties of the year.

thanks for this dr. house. there is nothing like the campgrounds on the night before day 1.
some people will warn you about difficulty sleeping in the campgrounds due to noise. while this is true, it's hardly a drawback; i still get chills every time i recall being pleasantly awoken, every hour or so, by a distant welling thunder, approaching on the desert breeze, electric, stirring each tent as it rolls through, the sound of a thousand cheering voices, doubling by the second, until the entire campground is roaring in the blazing floodlighted midnight, an ecstatic outcry announcing an ineffable understanding... the anticipation in the air is palpable...

Lonely, but there seems to be quite a bit of kicking it and chillin going on.

with the exception of the pool/jacuzzi, you can do all that chilling and illing on the campgrounds.

I've camped every year for the past 6 years, wouldn't have it any other way....
I was just amazed at the amount of kicking it and chillin. That's a whole lot of laid backedness. Not to mention the rocking of the shushi dinner.

if claire can bring sushi for lunch to saturday detention,
somebody could certainly pack some in their cooler.

Couldnt agree more!! I look forward to Thursday sooo much, cuz of course the weekend is gonna be insane, but newbies usually expect thursday to be more just arrive, set up camp and sleep, but its far from that; i partied soo hard with all of the Party All Weekend camping group last year! We all got completely shitfaced and had such a good time meeting everyone else and deciding who u would watch and with whoom. We had such an awesome time last year that were doing it again this year. Trust me get their early sooo u can have everything set up before sunset and party your ass off!!!

only if you're staying in the hotel alone...
I don't camp anymore, and I do miss it in some ways
but the place l I stay at is almost exclusively filled with Coachella goers, and it is a wonderful party in it's own way

i'm sure the label was pressuring them to do whatever appearences they could book. And to Trent, i'm sure the irony of performing a song like 'Down in it" on a show like that was just too much to pass up

I'm a hotel girl myself. Swear by the pool-drinks-hot tub combo I enjoy each night of Coachella. And afterwards - a clean, comfortable bed. Yay luxury!
