Ok, last year we met this pretty rad dude .
He gave us Vip passes which was way awesome of him. I was wondering do you have to know someone or can you just buy them?

Pretty sure you can just buy 'em now, but you'd probably be better off asking your friend for them again... They're $600 a pop on Ticketmaster, I believe.

Yes you can buy them (I got mine comped), not sure they are worth the money though. It always feels more like a cattle-market the way you are penned in.

I figured they were pretty expensive. $600 a day or $600 for the weekend? Maybe Scott can hook us up again. If I could I would prob only buy them for a day. I'm a mingler & like to go to all the stages so I hear ya about the cattle thing, Lol!. It's basically only nearby the main stage, but still pretty awesome to have. You get releif from the porta potties & lines at the beer tent, ya know? How did you get yours comped if you don't mind me asking?

Its $600 for weekend-not sure if you can get one for the day.

I have a friend/client performing at the festival. Apparently not a good enough friend to deserve backstage passes!! I will be rethinking our friend/client relationship after Coachella.

Do you need a VIP pass to be up front/close to the stage? Or is it a separate area all together. I don't have VIP, but plan to camp out for my man Paul McCartney.

No VIP-well it shouldn't be called VIP-is really a fenced area well to the side of Main Stage. It has some nice couches, access to liqor (which you have to pay for) and bathrooms which are still portapotties. It's okay for free, but paying for it! NAH!!

You will still be some 20-30ft from the stage, even at front row! And I doubt you will want to camp out at the Main Stage from 12pm till Paul McCartney comes on-you will probably die of heatstroke! Just wait till about 6pm and gradually worm your way yo the front of the crowd.

Hmm...I probably wouldn't from that noon on... but, I'm considering close to it. In your experience, how easy is it to worm your way up to the front? I'm pretty thin, and a really hardcore Paul fan (hence, I'll be dedicated to the cause), but...I don't want to piss off everyone in my path... oh, decisions!

I wear a bright orange shirt with security on it! Works like a treat!
My experience is when I've seen headliners, I get there and see the band before. I go thru the sides and just squeeze in gradually or let the crowd suck me in. Usually I end up near the front 2 or 3 people by the time the headliners come on.
The only no,no is to wait 3 minutes before the headliner comes on and try and bulldoze your way to the front. Or to ask the impossible 'can I squeeze by?'.

Having been backstage to a few festivals, it is over-rated though! When I watch from the side of the stage I am thinking I want to be in the crowd.
Good luck with getting those wristbands. They are nice, just not worth $600. They could least throw in a few drinks for free.

The term VIP seems to be defined rather loosely. There's the mass VIP that just gets you access to the hard liquor beer gardens. Then there's the stage wristbands that get you behind the scenes a little bit. Then you have special stickers the top end bands give to a select few. There's like a dozen tiers of VIP and so many that get the lowest end wristband act like douchebags thinking they're all hot shit because they get to drink $10 vodka drinks.

I now know to kick anybody who has a bright orange t-shirt that says "security" and tries to run me over. If its a yellow security shirt, ill think twice.

i think the best thing about VIP area is just the access to all the shade, and air-conditioning. taking a poop at coachella is so much more fun when you cant smell the rest of the shit baking under your ass...

oh not mine, i dont do well is sunbaked portapotties. i think you should fork over your VIP wristbands (since you have nothing good to say about them) and let me poop in paradise while you can poop in the sun...
the only time i had VIP access i hated being in the VIP area, so many people just hanging out missing out on all the great shit. I was only there to poop or cool off in the liquor tent.

By nightfall, those toilets back up big time and you end up standing in a line, waiting for security to clean up the bathroom or drag out some dumb bitch who can't handle her drugs(or whatever). So, while your waiting, that act you came to see keeps playing. Then you get to miss them....especially if they are across the field in a tent!

I am willing to just hold my nose and use the smelly potties if they are located close to the act I want to see.

Last year I sunk backstage pretty easily it was cool and the security was pretty relaxed. I have some good stories about being backstage but won't reveal them here since I plan on revisiting what I did last year again.

me and about 10 other people have VIP passes. I hear its the way to go.

I am wondering if there is in/out privileges per day? I dont want to have to be there all day to see the shows at night.

It would be great if there was an outline of what VIP passes got you.

Anyway if you know of anything please let me know.

Thanks

It's been covered pretty thoroughly here many times. VIP passes gets you into the VIP area - that's it.

And come for the day part. Usually the best music is then and really makes it special when it turns dark. If you want to hide out on the couches in the VIP, so be it. But its fun to wander.
