and only Europe.
Josh, your day has arrived.
http://www.thetripwire.com/uncategorized/2009/02/24/faith-no-more-will-reunite-for-summer-tour/
While there was speculation abound about a possible reunion for one of the big U.S. festivals (maybe helped along a bit by our own rumor-mongering), all hope was lost when most of line-ups were announced. But what was once only a rumor is now official: Faith No More will reunite for a summer tour.
As confirmed tonight by his label and publicist, Mike Patton has announced that Faith No More will be reuniting for a European summer tour. While no other info has been given, we’ve been told that the tour will only take place in Europe, the dates are “to come” and there are absolutely no plans to tour the States. We’ve also been informed that Patton — as presumed — will not be doing interviews about the subject. So start booking your time now with Imperial Teen to try and get the word from Roddy Bottom.
Faith No More’s last performing line-up consisted of Patton, Bottom, drummer Mike Bordin, bassist Billy Gould and guitarist Jon Hudson. No word yet if iconic “Epic” guitar-soloist (and primary guitar player for most of the band’s existence) Jim Martin, or original singer Chuck Mosely will be involed.

man, this is both great news and horrible news at the same time. i dont know whether to be happy or sad. that reminds me of a joke i heard recently:
A husband and wife were sitting watching a TV program about psychology when he turned to his wife and said, "Honey, I bet you can't tell me something that will make me happy and sad at the same time."
She said, "You have the biggest penis of all your friends."

Well. Looks like I am going to Europe this summer. When Mike Patton says they will only be touring Europe, I believe him. I really hope its a late summer tour...
EDIT: I hope its in July. Madness have a bunch of tour dates in July, including one with The Specials. Yup. I would pretty much die.

Did you see the related news too?!?! WOW
"In an interview on Massive Attack’s official website, www.massiveattack.co.uk, band member Robert “3-D” Del Naja disclosed that he and ex-Faith No More frontman Mike Patton are looking to possibly start a new band together. He said, “I’ve been having ongoing e-mail conversations with PattonÖwe keep talking about sending each other tracks and setting up something abstract. It could turn out to be a good cross-pollination of ideas; we’ll see how it goes!” Let’s hope it goes real damn well."

I really, really want to. If they play download, like they have been speculated to (from beyond the boards here, I heard an interview with the organizer who said they were in talks with Faith No More), then they will probably tour in June. If they only have tour dates in June, I can't go. I am REALLY hoping for some UK dates mid-July. That way I can also swing Madstock and see Madness and The Specials.

I, now regretably, just bought my Bonnaroo airfare two days ago. Furthermore, I choose not to buy flight insurance, because I never thought anything like this would happen.
So now my options are, skip Coachella and go to Europe, suffer the rebooking fee of my flight, sell my Bonnaroo tickets and go to Europe... or go completely broke trying to do Coachella, Bonnaroo and Europe.
It will most likely be option C. Or just not go to Europe at all... but I hope I can make it happen.

FAITH NO MORE Officially Confirms Reunion Plans; Band Lineup Revealed - Feb. 25, 2009
FAITH NO MORE bassist Bill Gould has released the following statement to BLABBERMOUTH.NET:
"FAITH NO MORE has always stood out as some sort of unique beast; part dog, part cat — its music almost as schizophrenic as the personalities of its members. When it all worked, it worked really well, even if the chemistry was always volatile.
"Throughout our 17 years of existence, the mental and physical energy required to sustain this creature was considerable and relentless. Though amicable enough, when we finally split, we all followed paths seemingly destined to opposite ends of the universe. Yet during the entire 10 years that have passed since our decision to break up we've experienced constant rumors and requests from fans and promoters alike. Nevertheless, for whatever reason, none of us kept in regular touch, much less to discuss any possibilities of getting together.
"What's changed is that this year, for the first time, we've all decided to sit down together and talk about it. And what we've discovered is that time has afforded us enough distance to look back on our years together through a clearer lens and made us realize that through all the hard work, the music still sounds good, and we are beginning to appreciate the fact that we might have actually done something right. Meanwhile, we find ourselves at a moment in time with zero label obligations, still young and strong enough to deliver a kick-ass set, with enthusiasm to not only revisit our past but possibly add something to the present. And so with this we've decided to hold our collective breaths and jump off this cliff.... BACK, GOD FORBID, INTO THE MONKEY CAGE!!!
"We can only hope that the experience of playing together again will yield results erratic and unpredictable enough to live up to the legacy of FNM.
"Who knows where this will end or what it will bring up... only the future knows. But we are about to find out!"
FAITH NO MORE 2009 is:
Mike Bordin - Drums
Roddy Bottum - Keyboards
Bill Gould - Bass
Jon Hudson - Guitar
Mike Patton - Vocals
Patton's publicist told MTV News that FAITH NO MORE was playing in Europe only, with no North American dates scheduled.
The exact dates and countries have yet to be confirmed.
Although it was rumored that FAITH NO MORE would headline California's Coachella festival in mid-April, only Patton is performing at the event.
As previously reported, a source close to guitarist Jim Martin, who was in FAITH NO MORE from 1983 until 1993, told BLABBERMOUTH.NET that the axeman expressed interest in taking part in the reunion after being recently contacted by keyboardist Roddy Bottum and a member of FAITH NO MORE's management team, but that the band ultimately decided to utilize Hudson for the upcoming dates.
Martin left FAITH NO MORE in 1993 due to "internal conflicts" and was replaced by FNM singer Mike Patton's MR. BUNGLE bandmate Trey Spruance. Trey also exited soon after recording 1995's "King for a Day... Fool for a Lifetime", just before the band was to begin a world tour. Spruance was replaced by Dean Menta, the band's guitar roadie. FAITH NO MORE's final studio CD, "Album of the Year", was released in 1997 and featured yet another new guitarist, Jon Hudson, who was a former roommate of Billy Gould.

While the band has no plans to tour the U.S., one industry insider suspects that, if the European trek goes well, “the right offer” will be the only thing standing between Faith No More and a full American run.
This is killing me.
Also...
For nearly 10 years, Faith No More fans have mourned the demise of one of the most influential and under-appreciated rock acts of the 1990s — all with the firm understanding that there would be no return.

It's simple but it's so true. I get to finally see the cure at Coachella, I got to finally see Beck last year. You'll see this band, just maybe not this summer (or whenever this tour starts). Do you really think they're gunna do Europe and not come to North America at all?

This is true for me also. Obviously with The Cure this year, Radiohead at Lolla last year and Beck in Chicago... I say this all the time, and more often than not, I find I do get that chance. So will you, rage, just not at Coachella this year. Maybe next year, similar to how MBV ended up.

rage patton
03-02-2009, 10:58 PM
I know what you mean. At the same time, Patton is also a business man... and this is a brilliant marketing move. By telling everyone that FNM are only going to tour Europe, it will make US concert and festival promoters offer higher amounts of cash and, if they choose play NA festivals, it will probably get them higher billing as well.
I wouldnt doubt it if they end up only touring Europe. However, I get the feeling this is business move on Patton's side and they will play at least one or two NA shows. A Euro trip is still in my sights though...

you think Seattle will be a warmup gig, rage? or the first US date of an epic tour?
rage patton
03-25-2009, 09:23 AM
Well, a lot of people actually think that was just Roddy Bottum sending a shout out to some countries/city and not actual planned gigs. But from what I can tell, all those other countries he mentioned, either him or Billy Gould had previously anounced there would be tour dates there... except for Isreal and Seattle. I don't know why he would throw them into the bunch if they weren't planning tour dates.
Billy Gould also said there will almost certainly be warm up gigs before their show at Download. Im thinking they might do a warm up gig in San Fran and Seattle before heading to Europe.

wmgaretjax went to Roskilde 07 I believe.
Also, I just typed a huge thing about what FNM abums to listen to and in what order... but I deleted it all by accident so I will give you the brief synopsis. Start with either The Real Thing or Angel Dust. Their crowning achievement is Angel Dust, its their masterpiece. However, The Real Thing is much more accessible and may be a better place to start. Damn. With the addition of dates, it looks like a second FNM show will be impossible to fit into my schedule. In August they are almost playing a show every single day and they are hoping all over the place in no logical order. I hope they aren't too tired by the time I get to see them.

They didn't play it at a single show. In fact, I believe the only songs off of The Real Thing that got played this tour was Epic, From Out Of Nowhere, Surprise! You're Dead!, The Real Thing and Zombie Eaters. The Real Thing was only played a couple times, and Zombie Eaters only ONCE. Its a shame, and I have no idea why they have been criminaly ignoring the album. Luckily they have been playing a decent amount off of Angel Dust. Even better, towards the end of they tour they started adding back in Malpractice and Midnight Cowboy. My only request would be less KFAD,FFAL and more Real Thing.
Excellent, excellent, excellent. Brings back a lot of good memories. Just wish Big sick Jim Martin was aboard.

Jim Martin would have been amazing. I think I read an interview with Billy Gould where he said they were in talks with him... but the band ultimately settled on Jon Hudson. Unfortunate. He is a great guitarist... but he is boring to watch. Big Jim Martin would have been sick.
As for Coachella, I would say there is a pretty good chance. Especially with the Australian leg of the tour ending on March 1.

I found this poster online for their Dublin show a couple of weeks ago.

.......... Jim Martin would have been amazing. I think I read an interview with Billy Gould where he said they were in talks with him... but the band ultimately settled on Jon Hudson. Unfortunate. He is a great guitarist... but he is boring to watch. Big Jim Martin would have been sick. ........
TBH, Big Jim didn't run around the stage much either. :)
I wish I could find a setlist for the last time I saw them. Not a sniff of it online that I could find.
