Hi!

Have you ever heard about the hexayurt project?

A hexayurt is an easy to build shelter which seems to be ideal as campsite accomodation for festivals. Here are some advantages:
- its' rather big, you can build one so u can stand inside and have guests.
-takes longer to heat up in the morning - so u can sleep longer!
-with a trick you can use cold water to cool it down during the day
-more stable than tents
-no dust inside
-multi-use
- ...

Does someone have experience building one of those?
Who bothers building one for this year?

Looks awesome! I love it. The only thing I dont like is the single-use application of it. I don't see myself using it besides at Coachella and maybe a few other places but all in all seems like too much money to invest on something I will use once then I have to find a place to store it for next year.

But still awesome. Awesome.

there's also a one-man-hexayurt construction manual online. so it's even cheaper and easy to store.

but for the real deal (the big one) you might want to consider sharing it with friends. (everyone can store a piece of it ;-)

because you can REUSE this thing as often as you want it doesn't seem too expensive. The only thing you need to renew is the duct tape!

I think you got that wrong: you can REUSE this thing as often as you want. The only thing you need to renew is the duct tape!

And if you share this space with your friends, it's not that expensive... and everyone can store a piece of it, problem solved... ;-)

MMmmm no thanks. But thanks for the free construction plans though. Why you would give that away I dont know.

I think the original hexayurt idea was to help people build temporary homes after disasters in a rather cheap, quick and easy way. Obviously the inventors just WANT this to be free to make this world a better place ;-)

I posted them here because I think it's cool and worth a try actually building one @ coachella.

Comon guys, Tim Taylor would be dissapointed.
No DIY-veterans out there?

btw: do they still shoot home improvement?
The hexayurt would be a great suggestion for their tooltime meta show...
and extremely helpful for this idea to get realized for coachella. ;-)

could camping/lodging be the wrong thread category for an idea which might suit better to coachella veterans (who I don't expect to come to this forum category very often)?

This was the correct forum for your posting. And coming from someone who's camped for 3 years at coachella I can tell you. You might not be getting the response you expected because people dont really need this at coachella. Its not burning man. You aren't there for a week, the heat and sun aren't nearly as bad. and there is no dust.

The hexayurt looks great. Its just way too expensive and way too much effort for something to sleep in for 3 nights.

I didnt even sleep in anything last year I just slept out on the grass. Most people just need a tent and an EZ-UP for shade and they do fine.

Coachella just might not be the right crowd for this. Burning Man would be better imho.

I'm ok with a 6-day-coachella 2010 ;-)
