just another 2 DJs huh? just a little trivia about the plumps:
andy and lee had to take themselves out of the running for best producers of the year at breakspoll for several years because they kept winning by a landslide. after resuming eligibility, they simply kept winning. the plump DJs are legendary.
in fact, they have never played in the US because of visa issues - coachella will be one of their first US performances. they sell out the largest venues for dance music all around the world and will be making their first US stop at the un-offical home of breaks in the USA - san francisco.
the plump djs will rape your ears at coachella - unequivocally - this will be the best dance act of the festival. prepare yourselves.

Cry. Then go see most of MBV and sprint over to Sahara to catch end of Plump. Or other way around. Those two and the Orb are my biggest Sunday draws, and I am almost positive there will be some horrible overlap. If you run fast enough you can go from the main stage to the Sahara in about 3 minutes though. This will likely be necessary on Sunday.

As much as I love MBV and Orb....I think I'd have to choose the Plumps over those two if there is a conflict. I might be able to argue that I like MBV and/or Orb more than Plump DJs, but the amount of fun/dancing/ball busting/soul fucking/face melting/DANCING going on during Plump Djs would just be too much fun to miss.

Actually as far as breakbeat goes they absolutely are the most influential act in the world.
Them and Krafty Kuts have probably done most to shape the sound over the last decade.
Of course the genre is splintered as fuck these days so if you one wanted to nitpick then they could probably name thousands more influential in one particular offshoot.
I'll probably catch them in SF next weekend so I'll report back on what they're first US show in forever sounds like. If the old myth about producing talent vs DJ talent holds still holds true I'm not expecting much.

Adam Freeland doesn't spin Breaks very much, he throws a few tracks in every once in a while but majority Electro House or at least last time i saw him and from his essential mix and all his other sets i have thats how it sounds to me.

as far as breaks scenes go in the US they are pretty weak
Milwaukee: Had an emerging breaks scene but with the cities nite life being weak didnt last long. I threw mostly drum and bass/breaks show with dnb headliners cause after I had Deep Impact out and realized nobody knew who he was it wasnt worth my money being wasted. There is still a crew in milwaukee "Better Breakbeat Bureau"www.myspace.com/betterbreakbeatbureau
witch I am still part of pushes hard but struggles. They have had acts such as General Midi, Auotbotz, Slyde, Fixx and so on out but its really tough to get kids out.
Chicago: Is kinda the same as milwaukee but is a bigger city so they have had more luck. With Keith Mac moving there a few years ago they have seen a rise in big name breaks acts play Chicago. They tend to puch more of the Electro Breaks sound though....
Fl: The Fl breaks scene is still rather large but not for me. I am not a fan of US breaks, to me they are simple and non climatic. I prefer that hard gritty but yet still funky sound of nu skool breaks.
Why cant I live overseas???

Yeah my brother lives in florida and makes it out to orlando for good breaks acts every once in a while, like uberzone vs bassbin twins and meet katie stuff of that nature but still nothing like over seas. I feel the same way about Jungle simply because we get top talent but not a variety in so cal, its just always the same people spinning the same partys. I would love to live in london, the only downside would be the expense to go to Coachella every year but Glastonbury would be a lot closer.

I am hoping that after the coachella goers see what the plump djs bring to the table we will see some more top tier breaks acts next year. I really think the sound will go over well, its just the lack of exposure that so cal gets to the sound I love.

Dylan and Tech Itch are dope but i can only take so much, it's not something i can listen to day in and day out mainly i listen to a lot of Jump Up Jungle like Andy C, Hype, Qemists, TC shit like that but then i love some oldschool jungle like Aphrodite and Old Grooverider sets from circa '99. If the plumps do fucking resort to electric disco it better be a totally freaked out version that nobody even in europe could have heard.
If they play it straight I'm demanding my money back.
We waited al this time for those stoners to finally get a visa they better not fuck it up.

as far as breaks scenes go in the US they are pretty weak
Why cant I live overseas???
give props in chicago to tolgar and local hero as well as keith mac for helping build the breaks scene.... my issue with chicago is that people just couldn't fucking cut loose on the dance floor like they did in SF... also - NYC scene is growing... newmindspace hosted SLYDE (plump dj pals on fingerlickin) and ICON (sf) last weekend... both playing brutal breaks sets before jelo rocked the electro. also, vitamin B (www.vitaminbreaks.com) has a good contingent and my new crew (www.jungoroad.com) is working on bringing out the plump djs in the coming year...
but as for 'the breaks scene in the US being weak'... overall - yes, i agree... but it's an *awesome* community of people... especially in san francisco. wherever you go and meet breaks fans, it makes for good company. :)
san francisco is purely amazing for that reason. i could list off a dozen separate crews that have regular weekly breaks events - in clubs and 'renegades' - each with about 10 core DJs and a hundreds of supporters... all cross-pollinated with each others fans... and a healthy number of producers... of course, that doesn't include burning man - where you'll hear more breaks in one week than anywhere in the world. this year will have the best of the best flying in from all over the world to play at opulent temple.

getting back to the plumps - i already listed some of my favorite tracks in a previous thread... but i will also mention the SICK re-working of 'beat myself up' on the single... icon dropped it in NYC this past weekend and absolutely SLAYED the crowd. classic brutal plump DJ beats... go snag it on itunes and bump VERY LOUD!! :)

yes Tolgar and Local Hero do get credit for a lot of the breaks going on in chicago even though they both seem to be playing electro now.
Thanks for the info and the link man, I will def be coming up to SF in june for that show. How is that venue?

that's the party i was telling you about, this was the first year i didn't make it to ultra since i knew about it but i am glad i am going to coachella instead over ultra minus the club events like FSOB VS VIRAM among other ones. Ultra and Coachella are WAAAY different vibes.

I never go cause its so close to coachella and cant swing both but it doesnt bother me cause I have no real need to go to Ultra. I would like to go down there and just hit up all the other shows that week though.

yeah next year i am planning on going for the week if i have the funds next year because all the club events BURN ultra, but coachella remains supreme durring that time of the year for obvious reasons.

How is that venue?
haven't been personally... but i hear it's great. indoor/outdoor stages overlooking the bay. that's where opel got it's start... huge parties back in the day... kelly mission rock disappeared for a while, and now they're open again. opel 7 year next weekend has meat katie, dylan rhymes at kmr, then elite force and rennie in june... what more can you ask for?

Very much looking forward to the Plumps. They always bring out something special for festivals (they did killer sets in Melbourne in 2008 and Sydney too). Much like the Stanton Warriors.

Plump DJs and Perry Ferrel need to be switched. Seriously. Both YYY and Plump DJs are two artists that were both unanimously praised on this board, no one made a negative comment about them. They need different time slots.
