Albert Cross, I thought was a dj.. hahha.. I'll make note of that.
Beirut vs. Conor Oberst... didn't really notice that. I thought it would more overlap than conflict.. But you're right.. The billing makes it difficult to place the two of them.
(they're on the same line)
Devendra under Clipse... yeah.. I'll work on that too.
People Under the Stairs on the Main? .. hmm.
I will say that I have word that Dear and the Headlights will be on the Main Stage, though.

I thought Roni Size for the Outdoor because of Mark Ronson in 08..
But I'll make note of that.

Do you guys think anyone will go up against MBV on the Outdoor?

There is no way Public Enemy will play Gobi,

DUDE,
Friday:
The Crystal Method will headline the Sahara.
The Presets & Gui Boratto will be in the Sahara, no question about it
Crystal Castles in the Mojave.
Conor Oberst @ the Outdoor Theatre
Alberta Cross anywhere except the fucking Sahara.
Saturday:
Personally, I think Glass Candy will play either the Gobi or Mojave tops.
Atmosphere @ the Gobi???? Outdoor at least.
I like Mastodon, but I think they'll play the Mojave. Jenny Lewis into Mastodon would be a bloodbath.
Sunday:
You do know who Shepard Fairey is right??? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shepard_Fairey
Friendly Fires @ the Gobi.
Sebastien Tellier & Shepard Fairey (see above) don't belong in the Sahara. Gobi or Mojave.
Roni Size @ the Sahara
Throbbing Gristle @ the Outdoor
Fucked Up is waaaaaaaay down.
Public Enemy @ the Gobi? Are you insane?
Devendra @ the Mojave.

Yeah, Crystal Method are Sahara headliners, which is why they will not conflict with the main stage headliner...too many people will want to see both. The only time in recent memory that this happened is Chemical Bros vs Coldplay. Girl Talk will close the tent that night to placate all the 16 year olds whining about dinochella. That, and Girl Talk probably is a bigger draw at this point in time. And Throbbing Gristle already said they are playing a tent.

It depends. Could go either way. Ordinarily no, but since it's the Killers and the fact that it's a dj set makes their set less of a must-see, so they probably will conflict. But if no replacement for Amy Wino is found, then they won't.

Looking better, clumsy. Regarding SSPU... they're still too early, man. I think it makes much more sense for Outdoor to go Beirut -> Oberst -> Black Keys -> SSPU. (SSPU and Black Keys interchangeable)
Oberst after Black Keys would be perplexing, not to mention effective in being a massive letdown.

#1. Buraka Som Sistema will be in the Sahara
#2. Girl Talk will not...
#3. Gobi will not be open during McCartney
#4. Patton, Girl Talk, Ghostland, & Ting Tings will not conflict with McCartney
#5. Crystal Castels will be in the Sahara
#6. Airborne Toxic Event will be in the Mojave or maybe early Outdoor
#7. Genghis Tron will be going on much, much, much earlier
i don't think Franz Ferdinand's status would be hurt by switching their spot with Leonard Cohen's and it would solve the problem of having an 80-year old man perform the main while the sun is still up...
...and i'm under the impression that Peanut Butter Wolf is doing a DJ set, so don't be surprised to see them in the Sahara, although this is the most likely "dan le sac vs scroobius pip" in a smaller tent act...
clumsy342

Dude.. its a prediction.. like a betting pool. or like a game.
And the powers of deduction make it pretty easy for anyone to take a good shot at it...
As long as you've been to Coachella, compare previous years' set times, pay attention to billing order, and familiarize yourself enough with the acts to know who should not conflict.
I'd say we "know" a great deal.

eh I guess we can make a good guess but people come in here say this will/will not happen like they are the ones that make the set times. Its all a crap shoot however I do like looking at your set times just to get a feel and wonder what I will see if they were true.

switch Ting Tings and M Ward
Courteeners --> Ryan Bingham --> M Ward --> Black Keys --> Beirut --> Conor Oberst --> Hold Steady

Noah and the Whale open the Mojave
We Are Scientists after Crystal Castles
clumsy342
03-13-2009, 12:47 AM
good points...
except.. Beirut is much more of a sunset act. The Black Keys have 5 albums under their belt... Conor vs. Morrissey doesn't seem likely..
and you have 8 acts there for the Outdoor, with Hold Steady closing. I really doubt anyone with be on the outdoor during Paul McCartney.
zenidogx
03-13-2009, 01:27 AM
i have 7 for the Outdoor. Beirut will go on right as Cohen finishes and right at sunset time. my order suggests a Black Keys/ Silversun Pickups conflict, which is better than a Black Keys/ Franz conflict. Hold Steady would end right as McCartney takes the stage like Flogging Molly before Prince. they are a huge bro act too. Conor Oberst / Franz overlap or conflict is tough, but Franz would draw a radio friendly crowd while Conor gets the older alternative crowd.
Xenocide
03-13-2009, 06:05 PM
top tier acts don't conflict with the headliner... that means Girl Talk, Ghostland, Crystal Method, etc.... also, remember that Sahara headliners don't conflict with Main Stage ones...
last year's Main Stage conflicts were Black Lips, Enter Shikari, Black Mountain, Murs, Above & Beyond... all fairly low on the poster...
Fatboy Slim (although NOT the Sahara headliner was billed across from the Main Stage headliner because it was JJ), which means we could have a Chem Bros/Killers conflict, but i think that'll be more like Waters/Justice...
i think a Crystal Castles/McCartney conflict is likely... and i'm pretty sure the Sahara will be any two of these: Felix, NASA, or Crystal Castles... with Crystal Method during Morrissey...
Xenocide
03-20-2009, 12:51 AM
besides the problem with having all top tier acts during the headliner (which won't happen)...
there is ZERO chance of M Ward & Leonard Cohen playing at the same time... that would be like Black Mountain playing during Roger Waters... oh wait
Egull
03-20-2009, 01:58 AM
I really hope that is not when The Black Keys play, I really want to watch Morrissey into Paul McCartney
Xenocide
03-20-2009, 11:47 PM
there is a thing called overlap, and another thing called set change... before the headliner there is usually about 30-40 minutes (55 if your Roger Waters)... and the Outdoor is like 5 feet away...
so you miss the first 15 min. of one act or the last 15min. of another, you'll still see both...
(but for the record, i think Black Keys will NOT be closing the Outdoor...)

I dig this line-up. makes sense to me. Now i could see The Ting Tings and White Lies or Los Campesinos Switched. Ting tings are just two people and they don't have a lot of music, putting them on the main stage seems like a bit much to me. Los Campesinos are high energy, 7 people, i think they would rock out the main stage much better.
But in this line-up i would get to see every band i really want to see. Kudos so far on this one, its a winner in my books.

I'm pretty sure Peanut Butter Wolf is playing the Sahara because his set relies on a giant video screen, which the Gobi doesn't have.
EDIT: I looked again and I know there isn't much you can take out of the Sahara, but if anyone it's The Bug. The 4 or 5 songs I've heard from them aren't very dancy (but very good of course). They should be at night anyway, and that Peanut Butter Wolf slot is good for them.
Didn't the Black Keys close the outdoor in 2007?
These set times are pretty legit and about the best I could hope for on Friday. I wasn't sure how some of the conflicts would work out but I think I could handle this if it happened. And maybe, just maybe, I could finally see Ghostland Observatory.

Damn. Well out of all the bands I wanted to see this is probably the one I'm most okay with losing to conflict, but that sucks. Metaltronica is something I have yet to see live.
So that means we know Paulie Mac isn't being given the Roger Waters 8-11ish slot. I never really thought he would, but now we know he's going on until midnight.

04-06-2009, 06:38 PM
I wonder how long McCartney's set will be. 2 hrs? 2.5?
Should I put him going on at 9:30?
If it were:
SSPU> Franz > Morrissey > Paul
that would put it at
SSPU - 5:20ish
Franz - 6:30ish
Morrisey - 8ish
Paul - 9:30
If he goes on at 10... well.. just add 30 min to those times...
What do you think?
EDIT:
Oh shit, that would also mean the Outdoor closer would have to go on at... 8ish... Black Keys, Outdoor, 8pm? sounds.. reasonable.
EDIT EDIT:
damn, that really kind of fucks things up. Because Cohen is on the Outdoor at sunset. That would leave room for one act following him (if they close the Outdoor for Paul, which they very well may do). So would it be Conor Oberst or the Black Keys? I say Black Keys.

I don't quite get Molotov getting a main stage spot, especially over acts like White Lies, We are Scientists, Noah and the Whale, or the Airborne Toxic event. I guess it may just be the whole Spanish language thing, but i see them as a tent band. just me?
also, normally i would find Oberst over Cohen odd, but since cohen is locked in at sunset, there have to be some young guns playing before him. Hope Beirut does play in that pre-Cohen spot, that way they wont conflict with Franz / Morrisey / Cohen.

1. I could easily switch Crystal Castles with The Bug. Someone mentioned earlier that they could see the Bug in the Gobi like The Field was supposed to be a couple years ago. (another good tip.. i never really pictured them in the sahara.. but I'll change it to fit)
2. Switching Conor and Black Keys could work. Wouldn't cause problems. But who do you think would get the Main stage?
Black Keys - third time back, closed the Mojave in 2007. (so did Gogol, and they were on the Main in 08. although they were more hyped)
-or-
Conor Oberst - been at Coachella a couple times as Bright Eyes.. but this isnt Bright Eyes..
Still a tough call, but you're probably right... Black Keys could definitely tear up the Outdoor leading into sunset.

sspu closing out the outdoor?
Good question!
Here's my reasoning:
Silversun Pickups were on the Main when they first played Coachella.
People figured that on their second time back, they probably wouldn't be given the SAME slot (5ish on the Main).. For SSPU second year at Coachella, would they be playing the Main earlier than they had before? (probably not) So I'm thinking they'll get a later slot on the Outdoor.
Although we all kind of decided the Black Keys would be perfect to close the outdoor, after thinking about it I could definitely see them on the Main stage. Its their 3rd time back, and they should be given a primetime slot instead of a conflicting with bigger acts.

I have to agree with the posters before me, knowing what is allready a locked in time slot, i dig this line-up. The opening 3 of Dear & the Headlights -> We are Scientists -> Los Campesinos! is a perfect way to start the day, all at one stage. Then i can jump to the Ting Tings, Conor Oberst, over to Franz, then over to Beiurt, and back for McCartney...

are they? They have been one of the acts that I could see playing anywhere.
Well I'm not exactly a huge We Are Scientists fan, although it's cool that two of them went to my dad's college.
I did some Wikrisearch and they had a #41 Billboard single in the US, so isn't that about as big as you can get whilst retaining your indie cred? :dumbo
They also toured with Arctic Monkeys and other mediocre major new-wave revival bands so I also grouped them together with those kinds of acts.
I think Main Stage at 1 makes more sense than Gobi at 2, so I like that better, but I would think they're bigger than Los Campesinos. Although I won't nitpick too much.
As far as these set times, I don't know how good they are at the bottom because I was too busy crying over the fact that I'm missing Silversun Pickups and I damn well know it. And possibly The Presets? Fml.

I somehow pictured M. Ward being on the outdoor stage and The Ting Tings in the Mojave. Either way, those two conflicting would kill me.
I agree, but replace M. Ward and White Lies. I could see White Lies on the outdoor, but the Ting Tings just have "tent" written all over them.

I think switching M. Ward and Ting Tings would make more sense.
Also, that would put M. Ward and Conor Oberst back to back... hmm..
But I'm glad you all like these times!
Should I switch Ting Tings and M. Ward before we "lock it" ?

this is pretty good
switching ting tings and m ward is kind of tough..they could both easily play that slot IMO

I really don't know about Leonard Cohen playing during Franz Ferdinand. Sounds a little loud to me. I'd think Leonard would be playing from 6:55 to about 7:45. Franz Ferdinand would start at 7:30.
I'm basing Cohen off The National and Franz off the Raconteurs.

aww! Thehnks!
I'm fucking locking it if no one has an issue.
They look great to me...
Here's my plan:
This weekend (probably on Saturday) I will start a NEW thread called "FINAL SET TIME PREDICTIONS". I will post all 3 days in there. When the set times finally come out, I will post each day, side-by-side and highlight what we got right.
fun fun fun.
and, of course, I will thank the good people who helped them come together. (for better or worse, hah!)

It would be funny if the people in charge of making the set times were just super lazy and waiting for everyone in this thread to finish their predictions so they could just copy it.

2 cents:
1. Didn't Ghostland msg someone saying they'd be going up against McCartney?
2. I don't see Felix da Housecat getting such a prime night spot in the Sahara. Just my opinion, but I feel they generally try and schedule harder beats in the tent as it gets later...
Anywhooo... Just make the Cohen / Presets conflict go away. :P And then make sure Goldenvoice follows your lead. Cheers.

1. Ghenghis Tron are against McCartney in the Mojave. Ghostland say they are in the Sahara.
2. Going up against McCartney isn't a prime spot. that's why I put Felix there.
And I don't know.. I could definitely see a Presets/Cohen conflict happening..

I think I would honestly complain, just on the principle, even though they're not exactly bad set times.

1. No, that was Genghis Tron
2. Felix played until 8:30pm two years ago... and Above & Beyond last year proves your theory wrong...

regardless of Clumsy's photoshop skills, you could easily fit one more act in the Sahara... and you could put The Presets somewhere else, since they're live, although the Pendulum slot would be good for them... of course, i didn't think Ghostland or Girl Talk would play Sahara, so we shall see...

i'm pretty sure that Peanut Butter Wolf spinning in the dome late nite Friday reinforces the assertion i've maintained since lineup announcement that PBW is in fact, a DJ set, and Sahara being the most likely spot for such a set...
and i still maintain that Buraka Som Sistema will be in the Sahara as well...

Oh ok. But don't some of the early DJ's play for like 2 hours? I hope The Presets play the Outdoor instead, that would be fucking amazing. :pulse
